General Fair Information

The Grundy County Fair and Agricultural Society, Extension Staff, 4-H Youth Committee, Grundy County FFA Staff and Superintendents shall not be responsible or liable for any accidents that may happen during the fair, nor shall they be responsible for any damage, loss, or stolen property including death or loss of livestock. To avoid possible error and to conform to the rules of the Society, read the rules carefully before making entries.

Complaint Filing Procedure Anyone who has a complaint must follow procedure! Complaining to your superintendent, Extension staff, FFA Advisor or Fair Board member without following procedure will not achieve any results. 1. Complaints MUST be filed in written form and signed by the person with the complaint. 2. Complaints must be filed at the 4-H office on the fairgrounds during the week of fair. Complaints will not be accepted after the fair. 1. Complaints will be reviewed & all joint decisions of the Executive Committee of the Fair Board, CYC & Extension Staff and Youth Committee will be final.

Protests Anyone individual or group wishing to protest the fair may meet at the grandstands on Friday, July 16th from 7:00 am – 7:30 am. Protests occurring at any other time during the fair will be asked to leave the grounds.

Alcohol Policy No one is allowed to bring any beer or alcoholic beverage(s) onto the fairgrounds. Absolutely no alcohol in any barns or buildings and anyone caught will be asked to leave the buildings. Exception to the policy will be campground sites.

Fair Lost & Found The Fair Lost & Found can be located at the 4-H Office on the fairgrounds. Items that are not claimed by the last day of fair will be taken to the Extension Office. Items will remain in the Extension Office for a period of two weeks. Unclaimed items will be disposed of.

Grundy County 4-H & FFA Show Premiums The Grundy County Fair Association has set aside $7,000 to be distributed among the fair exhibitors. Grundy County Fair Participants are eligible for premium funds. Clover Kids will receive $1.00 per exhibit. Checks will be issued by the fair association based on the records of ribbon placing kept by superintendents and Extension staff. ALL checks issued by the Agricultural Society (Fair Board) are VOID if they are not cashed within 90 days of the date issued. After 60 days from the date on the check, uncashed checks will become a donation to the Fair Board. If you do not wish to receive a premium check from your fair exhibits please contact the Extension Staff prior to Fair.

Recreation Vehicles: Bicycles, Mopeds, Motorcycles, 4 Wheelers, Gators, Rangers, Golf

 Recreation vehicles must have the proper registration ID on the vehicle or they are not permitted on the grounds. No Exceptions.  Recreation vehicles must be registered at Fair with Fair Board President, Jared Gutknecht.  Recreation vehicles are not allowed by campers on campgrounds unless you are a Fair Board.  Vehicles may be used on North Drive or South Drive only. They are not permitted on middle of fairgrounds unless you are Fair Board or Extension Staff.  You must be 16 years old to drive a recreation vehicle and capacity for riders must follow the vehicle limit. Example: Ranger – 2, Moped – 1 etc…  Any misconduct will result in your Fair Registration & usage on the Fairgrounds being revoked.  No vehicle may be driven around the Campgrounds after curfew (1 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday) 8. Bicycles are NOT allowed in the livestock barns or exhibit buildings or ridden down the middle of the fairgrounds. Please use the North drive or South drive.

Camping at The Grundy County Fair

Campgrounds: Camping & Overnight Policy

The Grundy County Fair Board allows camping at the fairgrounds. Anyone interested in camping on the fairgrounds must follow the procedure for reserving a camping spot. The procedure for reserving a camping spot are as follows: 1. Registration request will be taken from January 1, 2021 – July 15, 2021. 2. The registration form must be mailed in every year. Campers staying the full week receive priority on camping spots over day campers. We also consider the postmark on registration form. You will need to mail in a registration after January 1, 2021. 3. Because of the Campgrounds popularity, submission of a request for a camping space does not guarantee receiving one.

All 4-H and FFA members staying overnight must have a chaperone who is at least 21 years of age and is approved by the fair board officers. 2. No chaperone may be responsible for more than 3 exhibitors. 3. All persons staying overnight must camp in the designated camping area. There will be NO sleeping in the barns. 4. All persons must be in bed by midnight. Anyone failing to observe this curfew will be required to leave the fairgrounds. 9

There are a variety of opportunities. Each year the Fair Board supplies funds for show awards and upkeep on the grounds and building. The Fair Board current projects include the grandstands, a new pavilion, and repairs to buildings and barns. There is also a need for meat goat pens, replacement cages for rabbits and poultry.

Individual Youth Fair Scholarship / Sponsorships: For businesses or organizations interested in sponsoring individual youth projects or scholarships information about your program is allowed to be posted and shared at the county fair. General Banner can be visible ringside and must be approved by Fair Board. However, signs for individuals who received scholarships or sponsorships are not allowed to be hung in the exhibitor stalls.

Attention: Superintendents, Parents & Exhibitors IOWA YOUTH CODE OF ETHICS Youth are expected to be sincere, honest, and act in sportsmanlike ways at all times. Youth represent the entire program and their behavior reflects on their parents, leaders, club, and the entire youth program. All adults involved with the youth program, leaders as well as parents, are expected to set positive examples and serve as positive role models by what they say and do. Any youth who breaks the Code of Ethics or allows another person (adult or peer) to talk them into violating the Code of Ethics agrees to forfeit all prizes, awards, and premiums. The youth may also be prohibited from exhibiting at this and future exhibitions including the Iowa State Fair and other county, state or regional exhibitions. Youth agree to follow these guidelines: 1. I will do my own work, appropriate for my age and physical and mental development. This includes research and writing of exhibit explanations, preparing exhibits (such as sewing, cooking, refinishing, etc.), care and grooming of animals, etc. Adult assistance should help guide and support me, not do it for me. 2. All exhibits will be a true representation of my work. Any attempt to take credit for other’s work, alter the conformation of animals, or alter their performance is prohibited. Copyright violation or allowing others to complete your exhibit is considered misrepresentation and is prohibited. 3. I will treat all people and animals with respect. I will provide appropriate care for animals. 4. I will present exhibits that are safe for consumption. All food exhibits will be safe to exhibit and for judges to evaluate. Other exhibits will be safe for judges to evaluate and for exhibition. 5. All food animals that may be harvested immediately following the show shall be safe for consumers and shall have met all withdrawal times for all medications and be free of volatile drug residue. 6. If any animal requires medical treatment while at the fair or exhibition, only the Official State Fair Veterinarian may administer the treatment. All medications that are administered shall be done according to the label instructions of the medication used. 7. My animal’s appearance or performance shall not be altered by any means, including medications, external applications, and surgical procedures. Any animal that is found to have changed its appearance or its performance shall be disqualified from the show, and have penalties assessed against the exhibitor, parent and/or guardian by the management of the fair or exhibition. 8. I will follow all ownership and possession rules and, if requested will provide the necessary documentation. 9. I will follow all livestock health requirements for this fair or exhibition, according to the state health requirements as printed in the Premium Book of the fair or exhibition. I will provide animal health certificates from a licensed veterinarian upon request from the management of the fair or exhibition. 10. By my entering an animal in this fair or exhibition, I am giving consent to the management of the fair or exhibition to obtain any specimens of urine, saliva, blood, or other substances from the animal to be used in testing. If the laboratory report on the analysis of any sample indicates a presence of forbidden drugs, this shall be evidence such substance has been administered to the animal either internally or externally. It is presumed that the sample tested by the laboratory to which it is sent is the one taken from the animal in question, its integrity is preserved and all procedures of said collection and preservation, transfer to the laboratory and analysis of the sample are correct and accurate and the report received from the laboratory pertains to the sample take from the animal in question and correctly reflects the condition of the animal at the time the sample was taken, with the burden on the exhibitor, parent and/or guardian to prove otherwise. 11. I am responsible for my exhibit and I will not allow others to violate this Code on my behalf. By my entering an exhibit in this fair or exhibition I will accept any disciplinary action taken by management of this fair or exhibition for any violation of this Code of Ethics and any other rules of completion of the fair or exhibition without recourse against the fair or exhibition. 12. I want my exhibit to be an example of how to accept what life has to offer, both good and not so good, and how to live with and learn from the outcome. 13. I will not be involved in any illegal activities while participating in 4-H and FFA events, including but not limited to alcohol, tobacco or drug use.

I agree to conduct myself in an honest, ethical, and upstanding manner and I understand that disciplinary actions will result if these rules are violated. I understand that I am expected to represent the program in a positive manner. General Livestock Show Rules & Expectations Eligibility 1. ALL 4th -12th Grade 4-H members must attend 4 Club Meetings. ALL K-3rd Grade Clover Kids must attend a min of 1 club meeting. Excused absences will not count. Leaders will turn in a list to fair entry deadline. 2. ALL FFA exhibitors must follow FFA membership requirements. 3. Livestock Entries MUST be completed and submitted by July 1st! Failure to complete or submit fair entries on time will make you ineligible to exhibit at the Grundy County Fair. Late Entries will be accepted July 2nd with a $10.00 Late Entry Fee. Entries will not be accepted after July 2nd! NO LATE ENTRIES FOR STATE FAIR! NO EXCEPTIONS!

Livestock Ownership, Identification & Exhibiting 1. Exhibits must be owned by the 4-H or FFA member unless a lease agreement is filed with the Extension Office by May 15th. Horse Lease agreement is the only accepted lease agreement at the State Fair Level. 2. Animals identified under exhibitor’s name MUST be entered at fair under the SAME exhibitor. Dog & Horses can be co-identified by immediate family members (Siblings / Step – Siblings). Each dog/horse must still be identified in 4honline under each sibling/4-H member and it is either identified as 4-H or FFA, not both. Siblings must both be in 4-H to identify the same dog/horse. The same animal can only be allowed to show in a class ONCE. See Horse section for more detailed information. 3. Livestock MUST be shown by the Grundy County 4-H or FFA member unless the member has two animals in one class. In this case another current Grundy County member may show the animal. If there are other reasons that the exhibitor cannot show the animal, they MUST submit a request in writing to the 4-H and Youth Committee with explanation for why they are unable to show their animal prior to the first day of fair.

Exhibitor Identification & Substitution 1. All livestock Exhibitors will be required to wear a wristband to identify them as a livestock exhibitor. This will help our building supervisors, Fair Board, and Extension Staff easily identify someone who should not be handling the livestock. 2. If you are not able to take your own livestock into the show arena due to an injury or disability you may submit a request for another 4-H’er to show your animal or help you in the arena. This request must be submitted to the Youth Committee prior to Fair. Decisions of the Youth Committee are final. 3. To participate in Showmanship class the exhibitor must show their own animal. No substitution of livestock allowed. You may not show your sibling’s or friend’s animal.

Exhibitor Show Attire for ALL Species: (see your species rule section for additional information) 1. Full length pants. 2. Grundy County 4-H, or FFA T-Shirt, or white shirt with the 4-H Chevron 3. Leather shoes or boots are recommended 4. Unacceptable Clothing: shorts, hats, caps, sweat bands, sandals, flip flops, State Fair shirt, County Council shirt, or club shirts etc.

Sportsmanship 1. ALL PARENTS, MENTORS & EXHIBITORS are expected to act in a sportsmanship like manner and show respect for the judges, exhibitors, superintendents, Extension Staff, FFA Advisors & Fair Board. Persons not acting accordingly may be asked to leave the show, arena, or fairgrounds. The Iowa Code of Ethics applies to both youth and parents.

LIVESTOCK EXHIBITOR MENTOR & GENERAL ASSISTANCE POLICY (Applies to County Fair Only!) General Assistance: It is the intent that the 4-H’er take responsibility for caring for and grooming his/her own animals. If assistance is needed it should be aimed at helping the 4-H’er learn new skills. Following are allowed to assist. 1. Current Grundy County 4-H or FFA Members may help another 4-H or FFA member. 2. Immediate Family Members (mom, dad or siblings, or step siblings), grandparents, aunts and uncle) 3. Superintendents & Youth Committee members are available to assist. 4. Approved Volunteer Mentors (See Mentor Assistance Below) 5. NO PROFESSIONAL GROOMERS ALLOWED! Penalty for violating this rule is disqualification! Note: This, in simple terms, means you are not allowed to hire a professional groomer to come to the fair to groom your animal! Assistants should not be doing all the work preparing animals for exhibit. Exhibitors need to be involved in preparing their animals for show as much as possible.

Mentor Assistance: It is the intent that the 4-H’er take responsibility for caring for and grooming his/her own animals. The purpose of the mentor program is to provide learning opportunities for those who want to be involved in a project area but may or may not have the resources, skills or knowledge of the project area without a mentor to learn from. A mentor is someone who is not an immediate family member but is providing an exhibitor with a learning opportunity in a specific project area. A mentor should focus on helping the youth with Belonging, Independence, Generosity and Mastery. Following are mentor requirements: 1. A mentor program application form must be completed by May 15th! 2. A photo of the mentor must be included with the application. 3. The exhibitor (mentee) include a mentor goal sheet highlighting your mentor partnership. Please included clear, realistic, achievable goals & expectations. 4. Once approved by the Youth Committee the mentor must complete the volunteer screening process. 5. Once they have successfully passed the volunteer screening process they will be notified and may start working with the exhibitor. 6. At the Grundy County Fair the mentee must be involved in the grooming and preparation of animals for livestock shows as much as possible. The mentor is not meant to be the sole groomer and should engage the youth in the process. 7. Mentors who are not working with a specific youth are available. They are willing to teach, answer questions and assist any family. They will be wearing wristbands during the week of fair. 8. The mentor program ONLY applies to Grundy County. See State Fair Grooming Rules for exhibiting Livestock at the Iowa State Fair.

Removal of Projects 1. All 4-H/FFA & Open Class exhibits are released Saturday, July 17 between 2pm - 5pm and must be removed by 5:30 pm. 2. All Exhibitors including livestock exhibitors must check out with either the Superintendent or 4-H Extension Staff. 3. Exhibitors who remove their exhibits prior to release time without proper consent of the Executive Committees will not be allowed to exhibit at the 2021 Grundy County Fair. 4. Tack / Supplies are allowed to come & go as needed. 5. Request to remove exhibits prior to release must be made by July 1st and on file at the 4-H Extension Office. Requests will be reviewed by the CYC, an Executive Committee member of the Fair Board & 4-H Youth Committee. Exhibitor will be notified of decision. All decisions are final.

Sale of any animal on fairgrounds during the week of the fair is not allowed. Animals sold or leased prior to fair are NOT released early to anyone. 15

Fair is a place where Grundy County 4-H & FFA exhibitors have an opportunity to showcases their animal projects. The purpose of the Herdsmanship Award is to promote a cleaner & safer environment in the barns. For many people who do not know much about animals and their behavior, care, etc; everything on the fairgrounds including our 4-H and FFA members should be the best it can be!

The Herdsmanship Award will go to the top Club or Chapter based on scoring below. This will be judged randomly each day of the fair including show day for each species. Beef, Sheep, Swine, Dairy, Rabbits, & Poultry will be judged two times per day of the fair including their show day. Horse will not be judged because of their short time on the grounds but Horse Exhibitors are asked to pick up the area around your trailer after the show. Entries in the Breeding Heifer classes are open to purebred and commercial animals born between January 1st, 2020 – December 31st, 2020. 3. Prospect Feeder Calf

1. Calves should be born between July 1, 2020 – June 1, 2021 2. Exhibitor must have possession of purchased animal by 5/1/2021. 3. All Calves must be identified by the May 15th Livestock ID deadline or complete an Intent to Participate Form for calves not born prior to May 15th deadline. 4. The calves from the cow/calf class are eligible to show in the Feeder Calf Class. 5. Exhibitors (4th-12th grade) who have a bucket calf are eligible to exhibit that animal in the feeder calf class. However, it must be your own animal and not exhibited by someone in the Clover Kid bucket calf class. 6. Market Beef Beef Show Saturday, July 17th, 2021 | 8:00 am

1. All entries must have been weighed and tagged at the weigh-in December 12, 2020. Exhibitors may weigh & tag a maximum of 10 head. 2. Entries must be owned by the exhibitor. 3. Each exhibitor is limited to four market beef entries. 4. All market beef animals must be dehorned. 5. Classes will be divided into classes of no more than 10 calves according to fair weights. 6. Minimum fair weights will be 1000 lbs. for steers and 950 lbs. for heifers. A feeder class will be held for calves under minimum weight. 7. Painting, dyeing, and use of color agents on beef animals are not allowed. Exhibitors can use colored grooming aids on hooves only. Beef projects showing evidence of this will not be permitted into the show ring. 8. All market beef animals will be entered in the rate of gain contest. The top ten will be recognized. 9. Dairy beef animals must be at least 50% dairy breeding to be eligible. Dairy animals will be shown in their own class with the 1st and 2nd place animals eligible to compete for grand champion animal. 12. Market Beef Miniature class is for breeds that do not exceed 1000 lbs. Breeds that should meet the minimum weights as specified in rule #6 will not be allowed to show in this class. Ex. Angus Steer weighing 850 at Fair weigh in will go in the Market Feeder Class. 13. There must be a minimum of 2 animals per breed class or animals will be put into the all other market steer class.

Dairy Cattle

1. Entries are open to registered or grade dairy cattle. Exhibitors are encouraged but not required to obtain papers on grade animals making them Identified Grade Dairy Animals. Papers may be obtained through dairy breed associations or DHI. 2. Each entry must be the property of the exhibitor. Partnerships between the exhibitor and his/her parents or guardians will be accepted. 3. It is preferred that the registration papers be in the name of the exhibitor. Any name will be accepted as long as evidence can be shown that the exhibitor owns a portion of the animal and the name listed on the registration is a parent or guardian to the exhibitor. 4. Dairy Goats

1. Dairy Goats must be properly identified with tattoos or ear tags and be identified on 4honline by May 15. 2. Only Does shall be allowed to enter. 3. Scrapie Eradication Program. All reproductively intact goats that are exhibited must be tagged with a scrapie flock tag in their ear. The animal is tagged by the 4-H’er if born and raised by them, if purchased it is tagged by the seller. If purchased, you should also receive an owner statement from the seller. Registered goats may use officially approved unique tattoo numbers instead of scrapie ear tags provided they have documentation of participation in the scrapie program from their veterinarian. 4. Obedience Class

1. Exhibitor and dog experience determine class level. Show scores from previous years will be used to will be used to determine class level along with experience of the exhibitor and dog. A qualifying score is achieved when an exhibitor earns 170 points or more and achieves 50% of the points or better for each exercise in their class. When an exhibitor achieves this standard they must advance to the next class with the exception of Preferred Novice “B” and Graduate Novice “B”. However, an exhibitor may advance to the next level without a qualifying score. Meat Goats

1. Market Goat Classes are open to wether or doe kids. (No Bucks) 2. Only Market Meat Goats tagged and weighed at the Sheep & Meat Goat Weigh In on Sunday, May 2nd, 2021 are eligible to show in the market classes. You may weigh up identify up to 15 Market/ Meat goats. All Market Meat goats must be ear tagged. New...Exhibitors must enter their own animals on v2.4honline.com by May 15th for 4-H exhibitors and FFA exhibitors will ID animals by paper form. 3. All Breeding Does must be Identified by either a ear tag or tattoo. Yearling are not required to have new tags if they have a previous 4-H ear tag or a tattoo. Breeding Does must be identified in 4honline For 4-H Exhibitors and FFA Exhibitors must turn in a paper ID Form to the Extension Office by May 15. 4. Meat Goats will be weighed in again at fair on Wednesday, July 14 at 1:30 pm 5. Market Meat Goats must weigh a minimum of 50lbs. Classes will be divided by weight. All breeds will show together. Anything under 50lbs will be entered in a feeder class. 6. Market classes will be divided by weight as the superintendent deems necessary. Breeding classes will be divided by birth date as superintendents deem necessary. 7. Exhibitors will be required to have horns disbudded, dehorned or tipped blunt on all market wethers & does before arrival on fairgrounds. Removal of horns on fairgrounds is NOT permitted. Breeding Does can be shown with full horns. 8. Goats must be broke to lead. Exhibitors may use , collars, or collars with a short lead when showing. No Choking of animals will be allowed. 9. Bracing is allowed however, all goats must have four feet on the floor in the show ring at all times. Lifting feet off the ground or placing them on any support or altered ring surface is not acceptable. 10. Scrapie Eradication Program. All reproductively intact goats that are exhibited must be tagged with a Scrapie flock tag in their ear. The animal is tagged by the 4-H’er if born and raised by the 4-H’er, if purchased it is tagged by the seller. If purchased, you should also receive an owner statement from the seller. Registered goats may use officially approved unique tattoo numbers instead of scrapie ear tags provided. They have documentation of participation in the scrapie program from their veterinarian. 11. An exhibitor may show a maximum of 7 meat goats.

SHEEP RULES

1. Sheep must be in the Exhibitors possession by May 1, 2021. Livestock ID’s must be filed on 4honline by May 15, 2021 2. You may weigh-in identify up to 15 lambs. 3. To be eligible for exhibit the following must have been completed at the county wide weigh-in May 2nd. a. Ear tagging of all Breeding and Market lambs. Yearlings are not required to have new tags if they have a previous year’s 4-H ear tag. b. Weighing of all market lambs. c. Ewe lambs to be entered into the Breeding Show MUST have breeding information completed on the Sheep ID form during the May 2nd weigh-in. Lambs without this form completed may only be exhibited in the Market Sheep Show. Yearling ewe lambs must be included on this form. d. All yearling ewes without a 4-H ear tag must be present at the May 2nd weigh-in tagged for identification but are not required to be weighed. e. All ewe lambs and yearlings (reproductively intact animals) exhibited at the Grundy County Fair and the Iowa State Fair, must have a Scrapie Flock Ear Tag. If you or your family have your own flock or lambs, be sure they have been tagged by their owners before they leave the farm. Any ewe or yearling brought to the county fair without this ear tag, will not be eligible to show. Lambs will be checked before they are unloaded, and ineligible lambs will not be allowed to unload. Clover Kids General Rules

All Exhibitors must follow the 4-H General Rules 1. Enrolled Clover Kids are required to attend at least 1 learning opportunity or club meeting and are encouraged to attend as many club meetings as possible. 2. All exhibitors must complete & submit fair entries on time. 3. All exhibitors are required to wear a wristband to identify them as a livestock exhibitor. This will help our building supervisors, Fair Board, and Extension Staff easily identify someone who should not be handling the livestock. Wristbands will be handed out at each fair check in. 4. One Exhibitor per Exhibitor Only one animal per youth unless otherwise stated in rules. Should a youth’s animal die or be sent home from fair by the vet the youth may still participate in the event by walking in arena to share the story about their project. This ONLY applies if the animal was entered by July 1st entry deadline. 5. Show Attire: 4-H t-shirt, Pants & Tennis shoes or boots. NO flip flops! 6. Clover Kids may only have help from superintendents, other 4-H or FFA members, adult family members or mentors. The purpose is for the exhibitor to learn from those who are assisting them and not for that assistant to do all the work for the exhibitor. 7. Only youth who have completed Kindergarten and older are permitted to handle Livestock projects at fair for safety purposes. 8. Clover Kid Exhibit opportunity is NOT competitive. It is meant to be a learning experience to prepare the kids for entering 4-H & FFA in the future. 9. All EXHIBTORS, PARENTS & MENTORS are expected to act in a sportsmanship like manner and show respect for the judges, exhibitors and superintendents. Persons not acting accordingly may be asked to leave the show, arena, or fairgrounds. 10. All participants will receive the same recognition in the species they exhibit. Recognition may vary by Species. 11. All exhibits & tack are released on Saturday, July 17th at 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm. STATIC GENERAL RULES

1. ALL 4-H Exhibitors (4th – 12th Grade) MUST attend at least FOUR local club meetings to be eligible to participate at Fair. Excused absences will not count. 2. Static Judging is scheduled for Monday, July 12th from 10:00 am—2:00 pm. a. Judging Day is not open to public. Please try to limit the amount of people you bring with you to judging day. b. Entries are checked in at the Static Judging Entry Table. Please have projects ready with your goal form attached and all pieces of the exhibit label c. Please check in no later than 1:30 pm d. ENTRY TAGS WILL BE AT CHECK IN. Instructions & Supplies to add your tags will be at a table for you to attach them to your exhibits. 3. Static Entry Released on Saturday, July 17th between 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm. All exhibits are released at this time. Please plan accordingly. a. ALL Static (non-livestock) exhibits MUST be picked up by 5:00 pm. b. Exhibits that are sold prior to release are NOT allowed to leave early. c. All Non-Livestock Exhibitors MUST sign a release form when checking out all exhibits before removing the items from the exhibit building. Exhibits removed without permission or prior to release time will forfeit premium. d. If an exhibitor or their immediate family is unable to pick up their exhibits, the exhibitor is responsible to appoint a pickup person and let the Extension office know who this appointed person is by Wednesday, July 14th. Exhibits will not be released to an undesignated person. 4. Exhibitor Substitution a. Non-Livestock In case of illness or conflict that a 4-H or FFA member is unable to be present for conference judging of non-livestock exhibits, the exhibits may be brought to the fair by another person on entry day. Exhibits will be judged as there is time and written comments will be provided to the exhibitor. b. Communications If the exhibitor is unable to be present for any reason, they will not be eligible to participate. c. Fashion Show If an exhibitor is unable to be present for Fashion Show Judging Day, the exhibitor may submit a video and Fashion report but are not eligible for State Fair

5. General Exhibit Rules: a. All Static Exhibits MUST include a Fair Exhibit Form. The form can be included as the form itself, in a binder, or by electronic media. Check for additional requirements in food & nutrition, photography, and visual art classes. A written explanation, audio recording or video recording is to be included as part of the exhibit. If selected for State Fair, the 2021 Fair Exhibit Form is the only information that a State Fair judge will have to learn about your exhibit and needs to be as detailed as possible. The exhibitor should respond briefly to them following questions about the exhibit:

1. What did you plan to learn or do? (What was your exhibit goal(s)?) 2. What steps did you take to learn or do this? 3. What were the most important things you learned?

b. Eligible exhibits are an outgrowth of work done as a planned part of the 4-H’ers participation in 4-H projects or programs during the current 4-H year. Exhibits can be done by an individual or group and may represent all or part of the learning in the project or program. c. Exhibitors in 4-H classes are not eligible to exhibit a similar department of the FFA divisions or vice versa. d. Exhibits previously entered in an FFA Ag Science Fair or any other FFA event or competition may not be entered in any 4-H exhibit classes. e. Exhibits that do not comply with the class description size guidelines, copyright restrictions, safety and approved methods will be judged at County Fair but will not be eligible to advance to State Fair and not put on public display. f. If the exhibitor chooses a display to illustrate what was learned: 1. Posters must not exceed 24” x 36” in size. 2. Chart boards, graph boards, project presentation boards, model displays, etc., may not exceed 48” x 48” in size. Maximum size is determined by measuring the flat (unfolded) dimensions. 3. Display boxes may not exceed 28” x 22” in height or width and 12” in depth. g. Endangered and threatened plants and animals (includes insects), or songbird feathers and nests may NOT be used in any exhibits. Game animals legally taken are acceptable. Live specimens of noxious weeds or invasive species are NOT permitted in any exhibit. Dried specimens are acceptable to use in exhibits.

62 h. Copyrighted materials and designs may not be used in an exhibit that is presented as original work by the exhibitor. Exhibitors must include permission from the copyright holder/owner when using copyrighted materials. Exhibitors must give proper credit to the original source of all materials/designs used in exhibits. (See also special rules for visual arts and general copyright information for 4-H’ers.) i. The 4-Her’s goal and applicable exhibit standards will form the basis of the evaluation process. Evaluation criteria will include demonstrated learning, workmanship and techniques, and general appearance, and design. Refer to exhibit class evaluation rubrics for detailed criteria in each class. Rubrics are located on each 4-H project page at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/home/4h-youth. j. Due to security, 4-H’ers are discouraged from sending items that have special meaning and historical value as the exhibit or part of an exhibit. The Iowa State Fair and Iowa State University Extension will use diligence to ensure the safety of articles entered for exhibition after their arrival and placement. However, they will not be responsible for damage or loss by accident, fire, theft, etc. k. Each item in an exhibit must be securely labeled, including the name of the county, class number, and exhibitor’s name. l. All judges’ decisions are final. m. Exhibitors who are selected for State Fair will receive a packet with an intent to participate form that needs to be completed and returned by the end of the week of country fair to the Extension Office. The packet will also include a class description for the exhibit and deadline for the exhibit to be turned in to the Extension Office for transportation to the Iowa State Fair. n. Large items selected to represent the County at State Fair is the Exhibitor’s responsibility for transporting to and from State Fair. o. Exhibits going to the State Fair need to be packaged for travel. The Grundy County Extension Office assumes no liability for articles damaged in transportation to or from the Iowa State Fair. p. All Exhibitors are responsible to read and comply with the Iowa State Fair General Exhibit Rules for the exhibit to be eligible for Iowa State Fair.

Agriculture and Natural Resources 10210 Crop Production & Plant Science An exhibit that shows learning about the growth, use, and value of field crops, plant growth, soils and soil fertility, or any other learning related to Crop Production and Plant Science.

10220 Conservation, Environment and Sustainability An exhibit that shows the connections between humans and their environment including energy, energy conservation, stewardship, conservation, creating habitat.etc.

10222 Entomology Any exhibit that shows learning from entomology or bee project (excluding live speicmens) that is an outgrowth or an entomology or bee project learning experience. Includes specimen collections and may include products (ex. Honey) or equipment as part of the display.

10224 Fish & Wildlife Any exhibit that shows learning about a fish and or wildlife project or program such as identification, habitats, harvest, taxidermy, etc. Any specimens must have been legally taken and must include information about date and location of harvest, and who the specimen was aquired from if not self- harvested. Creative Arts 10310 Music An exhibit that shows learning about musical performance, composition and arrangements, instruments, musical styles or history.

10320 Photography (Limit of 5 exhibits) An exhibit, either photo(s) or an educational display that shows learning about photography from choosing a camera to modifying your photo. Still photos only, not video.

Photography Special Rules: 1. Photographs may be either black and white or color. They may be processed from negatives, slides or digital cameras and computer manipulation programs. Photographs must have been taken since the previous county fair. 2. Photographs should be a minimum of 5” x 7”. Finished size (including mounting/matting) of single photographs should not exceed 11” x 14”. Exception: Panoramic photos must not exceed 24”in length. 3. All photographs must be printed on photographic paper and must be mounted and/or matted. 4. Mounted photos can be (a) flush-mounted [no board showing] on mounting board, or (b) with mount borders [window mat or flat mount directly on board]. Exhibitors may cut their own mounting boards, use ready-cut window mats or have matting done professionally. 4-H’ers are responsible for design decisions such as border, color, and size. Framed photographs (including floating frames) will not be judged. 5. Non-mounted photos may be exhibited in a clear plastic covering. 6. A series is a group of photographs or slides [3 to 5] that are related or tell a step-by- step story. Photographs must be mounted together in story order or sequence. Finished size of individual photographs in a series should not exceed 6” x 8”. 7. Digitally altered photos should include a copy of the photo before changes. 8. Subject matter of photographs must be in good taste and be appropriate for public display in a 4-H setting. 9. Photographs depicting unsafe practices or illegal activities will not be displayed. 10. Use the 4-H Photography Exhibit Label to provide required information for photo exhibits. You do not need to include an additional Grundy County Fair Goal Sheet. 11. 10325 Digital Photography A photo or series of photos submitted electronically, not printed. Photos in this class will be submitted, viewed, evaluated and displayed electronically. Submission will be via upload into the FairEntry data system. Digital Photography Exhibit Special Rules: 1. Photographs may be either black and white or color. 2. Photographs will not be printed 3. 10340 Creative Photography A single photograph or photographic image that has been created with an alternative photographic process, or a photograph that was creatively edited or modified beyond reality in a creative, imaginative and experimental way to make it more interesting and visually engaging. Could be a composite of multiple overlapped photographs. Creative Photography Special Rules: 1. Photograph/Images may be mounted/matted or submitted (uploaded) as a digital image. 2. Photograph / Image if mounted must b mounted on foam core no smaller than 4x4 and no larger than 10”x10” in height and width. No matting and no framing are allowed, put your creativity in the photography! 3. Photograph/Image can be created from film negative, digital negative, or digitally manipulated in computer. 4. Photograph must be on photo paper, canvas, or other flat material. 5. Exhibit must have Photo Exhibit Label on back with required information for photo exhibits. Include information about the processes used. 6. 10345 Photography Idea / Educational Display An exhibit that demonstrates learning about photography that does not fit into any previous photography class. This class includes photos printed on canvas, fabric, ceramic, etc. as part of an educational display showing learning about printing techniques, display, merchandising, etc.

10350 Visual Art - Original Art An exhibit that shows learning through creation of original art. Original art is a one of a kind, non-replicable design of your creation. By using one medium or a combination, an individual creates an authentic work of art that is not recognizable as another’s work. You must explain the application of the most relevant design element(s) and art principle(s) featured in this exhibit. Describe your inspirations, reasons, feelings and/or motives for creating this work of art.

10355 Visual Art - Design, Process, or Technique Exploration This exploration class emphasizes process and provides an individual the opportunity to explore a medium, practice a skill, or study and apply elements and principles of art design. An explanation of the application of design elements or art principles used when making this exhibit must be included. This exhibit may be an object, portfolio, display, poster, or organized sketch book. If a non-original design source is used, its origin (where the idea was found, any pictures, sketches, etc.) must be credited, acknowledged or have copyright permission obtained. 10360 Visual Art - Other Visual Art Ideas/Topics Exhibits might include the sutdy and research about an individual artist, style, craft, business or marketing process, planning group tour, career options, etc...

Visual Arts Special Rules: 1. Exhibits made from kits or preformed models will not be accepted. Exception: Preformed molds (greenware, whiteware) may be used to provide the appropriate surface for a process technique or application of original design. 2. If the exhibit is a finished art object, the source or inspiration of the design, design sketches, or other process for creating the object and design must be included. Food & Nutrition Special Rules (Class 10445): 1. Any exhibit considered to be a food safety risk or portray a food safety risk will not be accepted, judged or displayed. 2. All food products/exhibits should be appropriate for human consumption. 3. Food product exhibits must be prepared, bake or cooked using only food grade utensils and containers. 4. Products that require refrigeration will not be accepted, judged or displayed. 5. Meat jerky products are prohibited. 6. The recipe must be included for any prepared food exhibit; credit the source of the recipe. 7. Preserved foods must include the Food Preservation Exhibit Label. Only food processed after August 1, 2020 are acceptable. Current USDA and/or Iowa State University guidelines for home food preservation must be used. Processed Honey must include the Honey Exhibit Label. 8. Preserved food exhibits must include two product samples. One will be opened for evaluation and discarded; the second will be placed on display and returned to the exhibitor. All perishable food products will be discarded when removed from display. 9. Prepared foods should be placed on a firm disposable plate or flat cardboard. Place food product exhibit in a re-closeable plastic bag with entry tag fastened outside the bag. Cookies, cupcakes, bars, muffins, rolls, etc – four (4) to six (6) items. Cakes, loafs, pies etc – one (1) whole product. 10. The use of alcoholic beverages in the preparation or production of 4-H food exhibits is NOT permitted.

10450 Health An exhibit that shows learning through food choices, safe activities and skills such as first aid and CPR, careers, and healthy lifestyle choices.

10460 Home Improvement An exhibit that shows learning in planning, improving, and caring for your home living space, including extended personal living areas immediately adjacent to the home. Exhibits may include new or refinished/reclaimed/restored items. Exhibits showing learning about home design, furniture, home accessories, and fabrics must include information about how design elements and Art Principles were applied.

Home Improvement Special Rules (Class 10460): Items entered must be ready for display in the home: pictures framed, wall hangings and pictures ready to hang, etc. Make sure hangers are strong enough to support the item. Command strips or other quick attach products are usually not aedequate hangers.

10470 Sewing and Needle Arts: Constructed Item A constructed item (sewn, knitted, crocheted, or other process) that shows learning and skill in sewing, knitting, crocheting, or other needle arts. 10490 Special Exhibition $10 Meal Challenge Create a balanced, nutritious meal for family of four (4) that includes a serving from each of the five food groups for each person. Information regarding food groups and recommended serving sizes can be found on the USDA MyPlate website www.choosemyplate.gov

Special Rules: 1. Each county may enter one (1) exhibit in this class. 2. All entries will receive an evaluation and participation ribbon. 3. Exhibit may be from an individual or group effort. 4. The meal must serve a family of four (4) people and total expense on receipt must not exceed $10. 5. The meal must include a serving for each person from each of the five (5) food groups – Fruit, Vegetable, Protein, Grain, Dairy. 6. The exhibit will be a poster (maximum size 20” x 30”) that shows the menu (including portion size), meal type (breakfast, lunch, dinner), and photos of the meal. Attach a copy of the $10 Meal Challenge worksheet to the back of the poster. 10520 Communication An exhibit that shows learning about written, oral, and visual communication skills in their many forms. Includes learning from participation in Theatre Arts projects or programs including puppets, stage design, etc. May include original creative writing, poetry, fiction and non-fiction, etc.

10530 Communication Poster Special poster exhibit to visually tell a story or idea about 4-H to the general public. Exhibitors must use one of the following themes: 4-H is… (open to 4-H’ers interpretation) Join 4-H 4-H Grows (4-H.org. national marketing theme) Quest to Be Your Best (Iowa 4-H Youth Conference Theme) How Do You 4-H? (variation of Iowa State Fair Theme)

Communication Poster Special Rules: 1. Only one poster per 4-H’er may be entered 2. All posters must be designed on, or affixed to, standard poster board, or foam core board-size minimum of 14” x 20” or maximum of 15” x 22”. 3. Posters may be vertical or horizontal. Posters may be in any medium: watercolor, ink, crayon, acrylic, charcoal, oils, collage. 4. Posters cannot be 3-dimensional. Materials used to make the poster may not extend more than 1/8 inch above the poster or foam core board. 5. Each Poster must have the completed Poster Exhibit Entry Form attached to back. 6. Posters cannot use copyright material or exact copies of other promotional designs, such as the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference theme logo. 7. 4-H’ers can include the 4-H clover in the poster. 8. All 4-H Communication Poster participants will be given Certificates of Recognition and written evaluation comments. Outstanding posters will receive Seals of Merit. Exhibits may include a finished movie or video, creation of a detailed storyboard, editing technique using digital video software, production techniques, or other display to share what was learned. Copyright permission must be obtained for any non-original material included as part of a film/movie/ video.

10550 Leadership An exhibit that shows learning about leadership skills and influencing others in a positive way.

CLOTHING SELECTION

The purpose of this category is to select and/or purchase an outfit that represents the 4-H’ers goal or intended use for the selected outfit.

1. Judging is based on fit, color, style, suitability, attractiveness, quality and construction features, stage presentation, required care, and cost comparison 2. There is no consideration in the judging on the amount spent, only in the process of recordkeeping and reflection on the cost of the individual items as a part of the process. 3. Outfits may be purchased at a department store, boutique, online store, sidewalk sales, retail shops or mall stores. Outfits may also be purchased at garage sales or other second hand venues with the total price of over $15. Outfits may be gifts, hand-me-downs, relative or friend’s modern or vintage clothing, or existing personal clothing, as long as the 4-Her actually selected the item as part of this specific outfit for the stated purpose. 4. Home-sewn clothing that was not sewn specifically for the participant are acceptable, such as purchases from a used clothing store.

This category is designed to expand the 4-H’ers shopping experience to shopping venues emphasizing recycling, reducing and reusing.

1. Outfits must be purchase at a garage sale, consignment store, Goodwill, Salvation Army or similar place. 2. Online venues are allowed, must be second-hand in nature. Shipping and handling is not included in the total calculations. 3. Traditional shopping venues may not be used, regardless of a low regular or sale price. Hand- me-downs or clothing as gifts do not qualify but may be entered in Clothing Selection if 4- H’ers selected the items to meet a specific purpose/goal. 4. Fifteen dollars is the purchase price limit including tax. However, some second hand stores and venues do not typically charge sales tax. 5. Receipt(s) for every item included as a part of the calculated total must be submitted with the entry. A garage sale receipt can be a piece of paper with the name of the location such as “Jane Doe garage sale”, date, amount paid, and signature of person selling at the garage sale. If the outfit was free at a garage sale, “free” can be listed on the report form and on the receipt. Failure to provide receipts will result in a reduced evaluation. 6. An outfit consists of major clothing pieces such as a shirt and pants or a dress. Shoes, undergarments and accessories are not included in the $15 purchase price limit. 7. Alterations are permitted to achieve a desired look or fit. 8. There are no additional considerations for an outfit that cost less than $15. 9. The outfit pieces should be purchased to meet the 4-Hers’ goal or intended use for the purchased outfit, and the 4-Her should have had an experience in shopping alternatives, evaluating fit, quality and constructions features, price and cost comparison.

Educational Presentations Educational Presentations provide an opportunity for 4-H’ers to demonstrate communication skills by presenting knowledge, information, or a process to an audience in order to gain a desired response.

Educational Presentation Rules: 1. Time Limit: Junior (5th & 6th grade) presentations must not exceed 15 minutes, Intermediates/Senior (7th -12th grade) presentations must not exceed 20 minutes. Presenters will be verbally told to “STOP” when they exceed the time limit. 2. Presentation content must be the original work of the presenter(s). Extemporaneous Speaking The purpose is to encourage the development of communication skills by providing an opportunity to think, organize thoughts, prepare a speech, and respond to questions when given a limited amount of preparation time.

1. Limit one entry per 4-H’er. Must be senior 4-H’ers – Completed 9th through 12th grade in 2021. 2. Program Format: a. Thirty minutes before the program, each participant will draw three of the available topics, selecting one to speak on. • The selected topic will not be available to the other participants. The general nature of the topic will relate to 4-H. The other two topics drawn but not chosen will be returned to the available topics for other participants. b. A preparation area will be designated with one participant admitted initially and one additional participant admitted each 15 minutes as the program progresses. A participant may not leave the preparation room until it is time to speak, nor may a participant receive help from a parent, leader or other adult or youth. A program official will assist participants with the time requirements c. All reference material will be screened by a program official on the following basis: • Participant may bring his/her own books, magazines or newspaper clippings for reference during the thirty-minute preparation. • Reference material must be printed material such as books or magazines (cannot be notes, outlines or speeches prepared by the participant or by another person for use in this program). • Some relevant reference material will be available in the preparation room. This material will consist of historical material related to the 4-H program. d. Each Speech shall be the result of the 4-H’ers own efforts using approved reference materials that a participant may bring to the preparation room. No other assistance may be provided. e. Plain 3”x5” note cards will be provided for each participant in the preparation room. Only notes made during the preparation period may be used. f. The 4-H’ers should be prepared to talk about any step of the process of what they are teaching. 4. 4-H’ers can only be selected for one working exhibit at the Iowa State Fair.

The best subjects involve action and involvement by the audience by doing, feeling, tasting, smelling, etc. Part of the judging will be based on how well you attract and involve the audience. Be prepared to lure the audience to your exhibit by asking such questions as: “Would you like to know how to…?” or “Did you know that…?” or “Have you ever…?”

Share the Fun Share the Fun provides an opportunity for 4-H’ers to share their skills and talents before an audience purely for the sake of enjoyment.

1. This can be an individual or club entry. If the Share-The-Fun act involves a whole club, the following criteria must be applied to determine if the club can be entered in the Share-The- Fun Program at the Iowa State Fair. • At least 80 percent of the performing group must have completed 5th through 12th grade in 2021 2. Share-The-Fun performances must not exceed 6 minutes in length. 3. Skits, songs, stunts, short one-act plays, dance, and other entertainment will be acceptable. All performances must be appropriate for presentation to a general audience.

Grundy County Fair 2021 King & Queen Candidates Needed!

The 2021 Grundy County Fair is again sponsoring a Grundy County King and Queen Contest. Candidate must be at least 16 years of age and not more than 21 years of age on August 8th. The Grundy County Fair Queen must reside in the county she represents or an adjoining county if the majority of her activities are in Grundy County. Candidates must never have been married or have had children. Each candidate must be an active member of at least one service organization in the community such as a church group, Girl Scouts, 4-H, etc. Eligibility is not limited to 4-H membership. No professional model is eligible to compete in the state competition. Any candidate who has competed at a State Fair Finals may not compete again. It is the responsibility of each candidate to make arrangements for transportation to and from Des Moines and commit to the entire competition at the Iowa State Fair. The King and Queen must be available for activities throughout the week of the Grundy County Fair, July 13th—17th, 2021. 1. All photography entries must be 5”x7” in size or larger 2. The photo must be matted, framed, or mounted. (Photos printed on canvas are not eligible) 3. No more than 3 per class 4. Photos can be taken with any camera, cell phone or tablet. 5. Basic Editing Techniques are acceptable for any of the above normal classes. Some examples of basic editing include: cropping, sharpening, dodging, burning, increasing saturation, increas- ing contrast and removing dust spots. Be careful NOT to over-sharpen or over-saturate your photos. Photos must be from a single image. Objects from another photo cannot be added to your original image.
