With three new releases on the topic of design made in Denmark, Hatje Cantz now invites you take take an exciting journey of discovery:

101 Danish Design Icons offers a comprehensive overview of everyday Danish objects that have made history. Along with thirty-two leading scientists and journalists, Lars Dybdahl, head of the research department at the Copenhagen Design Museum, presents the objects and dicusses their place in history. The catalogue sheds new light on this unique world of objects: from the first serially produced typewriter, designed by Rasmus Malling-Hansen, to Hans J. Wegner’s famous Wisbourne Chair, all the way to Scottie the terrier, which serves as the mascot for the Netto discount chain.

Finn Juhl (1912–1989) enjoyed great success with his sculptures, his organic-looking tables, chairs, and sofas, and his complex interior design. Some examples of his work are the interiors for the Danish Embassy in Washington, D.C., and for the trustees’ meeting room at the United Nations’ building in . It’s less well-known that Juhl was also a gifted watercolorist and that most of his creations were preceded by wonderful drawings. The new book Watercolors by Finn Juhl is the first to provide insight into the designer’s color-intensive works on paper.

Over a period of more than thirty years Børge Mogensen (1914–1972) created many pieces of high- quality furniture, many of which are now sold as designer classics. Influenced by tranditional arts and crafts, he continually pursued his goal of creating sleek, functional furniture that was of high quality, yet nevertheless affordable. He captured all of his ideas at the moment they occurred to him, whether on matchbooks, napkins, or used envelopes. The monograph Möbel mit Format traces Morgensen’s work methods and at the same time presents his most popular pieces and series of furniture.
