However, these sub-divisions appertain to Modern development east and west of the railway; they have no relevance to the medieval manor estates of Liss Abbas and Liss Turney. These manors are associated with settlement areas that lie north-north-west of Liss station by 1.4km and 1.2km respectively. 5.1 Liss Abbas is represented by the site of Lyss Place (c. 70m AOD). It is the site of post-Conquest medieval fishponds and the remains of a monastic grange of St Mary’s, Winchester. 5.2 Liss Turney is less easy to identify than Liss Abbas. The best indicators of the manorial centre are the Church of St Peter at Burgates (Farm) and the area now known as Upper Green, but called Liss Green on the Tithe Map of 1840. In reality, the manor of Liss Turney is unlikely to have had a clear-cut geographical boundary. In this survey it is used a term of convenience for the settlement area that includes Burgates Farm, The Plestor, and Upper Green. This group is sometimes known as West Liss but this is a vague term of relatively recent origin. 6.0 PLAN TYPE & DESCRIPTION (Maps 4 / 1, 4 / 2, 5 / 1, 5 / 2, 6 / 1 & 6 / 2) 6.1.1 Liss Abbas: monastic grange Lyss Place is now a single farmstead and as such it would not normally fall within the scope of this survey. -

Briefing Note for Ward Councillors and Chair of South Wonston Parish Council Affordability Housing in South Wonston both to buy and privately rent is expensive when compared to average incomes. Average house prices in South Wonston are in the region of 12 times average incomes. (Source: ONS / WCC) Many people will be unable to ever buy a property, or rent without assistance. The insinuation that all should see eventually buying a home in the village as a possibility shows a mis-understanding of the scale of the affordability problem. Right Move on 23 October 2018 stated from Land Registry Sold Homes information that the average price to buy a home in South Wonston was in the region of £412,429 (ONS 2018 Average District price £365,000). Across Winchester District: o Individual Lower Quartile/Average incomes £26k/£36k (Source ONS 2018) o Lower Quartile Household £39k/ £46k (ONS/OECD Modelled for 2 adults/2 adults + child 2018) o With Lower Quartile prices across District @ £290k (ONS 2018) homes are unaffordable o In the last 10 years across the District house prices are up 40%; incomes 18%; affordability ratio worsened from over 9% to over 11% (England 7.25%). Completed scheme in Micheldever. Both are interested in additional provision 40 rural schemes in Winchester and 50 villages assisted across HARAH (2000 people housed) 99% of new homes go to local people Important to provide homes in rural areas – A rural exception site is very different from a site like Kings Barton, in Winchester. -

HE district round Basingstoke offers itself as the subject for a study of Romano-British . population development and. Tdistribution because Basingstoke Museum contains a singu larly complete collection of finds made in this area over a long period of years, and preserved by Mr. G. W. Willis. A number of the finds made are recorded by him and J. R. Ellaway in the Proceedings of the Hampshire Field Club (Vol. XV, 245 ff.). The known sites in the district were considerably multiplied by the field-work of S. E. Winbolt, who recorded them in the Proceedings of the same Society.1 I must express my indebtedness to Mr. G. W. Willis, F.S.A., Hon. Curator of Basingstoke Museum, for his courtesy and assist ance in affording access to the collection for the purposes of this study, which is part of a broader work on the Romano-British rural system.2 The area from which the bulk of the collection comes is limited on the north by the edge of the London Clay between Kingsclere and Odiham ; its east boundary is approximately that, of the east limit of the Eastern Hampshire High Chalk Region' southward to Alton. The south boundary crosses that region through Wilvelrod, Brown Candover and Micheldever, with outlying sites to the south at Micheldever Wood and Lanham Down (between Bighton and Wield). The western limit, equally arbitrary, falls along the line from Micheldever through Overton to Kingsclere. -
