Abbandonata la scuola a sedici anni, compie diversi lavori, compreso il pugile e il benzinaio, fino a quando, con il nome d'arte di Dean Martin, s'impone come cantante a New York. E' il 25 luglio 1946 quando Dean Martin si esibisce per la prima volta in coppia con Jerry Lewis al "Club 500" di Atlantic City.
