GHOSTBUSTERS Written by Harold Ramis & Dan Aykroyd Final Shooting Script Last revised October 7, 1983 FADE IN 1 EXT. NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY -- DAY 1 The sun shines brightly on the classic facade of the main library at Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street. In the adjacent park area, pretty hustlers and drug peddlers go about their business. FRONT STEPS A few people lounge on the steps flanked by the familiar stone lions. 2 INT. MAIN READING ROOM -- DAY 2 People are dotted throughout the room sitting at the long oak tables polished by decades of use. Reading lamps with green glass shades cast a golden glow on the tables. The patina of age is everywhere. It is very quiet. LIBRARIAN A slightly stout, studious looking girl in her late twenties circulates quietly among the tables picking up books and putting them on her cart. Everything seems completely normal and peaceful. POV A single eerie musical note signals the presence of something strange looking down on the Librarian from a vantage point high above the room. It follows the Librarian as she pushes her cart around the corner. 3 INT. WORK AREA 3 The Librarian is alone in a back room sorting books for reshelving. Behind her is the card catalogue. One of the books attracts her interest and she starts leafing through it. 4 THE CARD CATALOGUE 4 Another eerie note is heard as one of the drawers silently slides open behind the Librarian and hundreds of index cards start popping out. The Librarian continues reading completely oblivious to this strange phenomenon.

  • Blink by Steven Moffat EXT
Blink by Steven Moffat EXT. WESTER DRUMLINS HOUSE - NIGHT Big forbidding gates. Wrought iron, the works. A big modern padlock on. Through the gates, an old house. Ancient, crumbling, overgrown. Once beautiful - still beautiful in decay. Panning along: on the gates - DANGER, KEEP OUT, UNSAFE STRUCTURE -- The gates are shaking, like someone is climbing them -- -- and then a figure drops into a view on the other side. Straightens up into a close-up. SALLY SPARROW. Early twenties, very pretty, just a bit mad, just a bit dangerous. She's staring at the house, eyes shining. Big naughty grin. SALLY Sexy! And she starts marching up the long gravel drive ... CUT TO: INT. WESTER DRUMLINS HOUSE. HALLWAY - NIGHT The big grand house in darkness, huge sweeping staircase, shuttered window, debris everywhere -- One set of shutters buckles from an impact from the inside, splinters. SALLY SPARROW, kicking her away in -- CUT TO: INT. WESTER DRUMLINS HOUSE. HALLWAY/ROOMS - NIGHT SALLY, clutching a camera. Walks from one room to another. Takes a photograph. Her face: fascinated, loving this creepy old place. Takes another photograph. CUT TO: INT. WESTER DRUMLINS HOUSE. CONSERVATORY ROOM - NIGHT In the conservatory now - the windows looking out on a darkened garden. And a patch of rotting wallpaper catches SALLY'S eye -- 2. High on the wall, just below the picture rail, a corner of wallpaper is peeling away, drooping mournfully down from the wall -- -- revealing writing on the plaster behind. Just two letters we can see - BE - the beginning of a word -- She reaches up on tiptoes and pulls at the hanging frond of wallpaper.

MRS GILLYFLOWER’S HOUSE. PARLOUR. DUSK. 1 The crashing chords of a pipe organ. Someone is bashing out the tune of a grim and worthy hymn. We’re in a large, red- walled room, suffocating in Victorian bric-a-brac. Track past a series of strange still-lifes. Those oddly disturbing Victorian tableaux - colourful birds stuffed and arranged on twigs, surrounded by artificial flowers and under big glass bell-jars. Gas-light glints in the creatures’ beady glass eyes. The playing stops and a woman rises from the organ. We don’t see her face as she runs her hand over the line of bell-jars. MRS GILLYFLOWER Like pretty maids all in a row. She makes a gentle cooing. Then there’s another sound. A strangely horrible gurgling. Like a contented baby. A door opens behind the woman, framing a black-bonneted silhouette. CUT TO: 2 INT. MILL. SPIRAL STAIRCASE. DUSK. 2 Tap, tap, tap. A white cane clatters away as a pair of neat little feet ascend a darkened, spiral staircase. The staircase finally ends in a door, padded with old, stained green baize. Fumbling, lace-gloved female hands flutter around the bottom of the door, eventually locating a sort of cat-flap. The hands push through a bowl of grisly-looking food. From the other side of the door comes the sound of heavy, ragged breathing.

DOCTOR WHO AND THE CREATION OF A NON-GENDERED HERO ARCHETYPE Alessandra J. Pelusi 85 Pages December 2014 This thesis investigates the ways in which the television program Doctor Who forges a new, non-gendered, hero archetype from the amalgamation of its main characters. In order to demonstrate how this is achieved, I begin with reviewing some of the significant and relevant characters that contribute to this. I then examine the ways in which female and male characters are represented in Doctor Who, including who they are, their relationship with the Doctor, and what major narrative roles they play. I follow this with a discussion of the significance of the companion, including their status as equal to the Doctor. From there, I explore the ways in which the program utilizes existing archetypes by subverting them and disrupting the status quo.

  • Comedic Devices HUMOROUS LITERARY DEVICES About Comedic Devices
Comedic Devices HUMOROUS LITERARY DEVICES About Comedic Devices We have all heard of literary devices in literature. Since elementary school, we have studies things like plot, setting, denouement, and conflict. We have even studied literary devices that fall specifically under the umbrella of figurative language: metaphor, simile, allegory, allusion. Did you know that there are certain literary devices whose purpose is to enhance the comedic aspects of literature? We will be looking at several of these devices and evaluating our text, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, for both examples of comedic devices and to explore how these devices enhance the comedy of Shakespeare’s play. Repetition Repetition in comedic writing is a bit different than repetition in poetry or prose. In comedy, repetition can also be referred to as a callback. It occurs when a statement or a theme is recalled as the punch line to a joke or at the close of a scene. Repetition is also considered a “classic example of the tension and release …where repetition is used to set up a modus operandi and build tension before [a solution] provides the resolving juxtaposition.” (Comedic Device) Example: Picture a comedic scene in which a wife and husband are getting ready to go to work. The wife judiciously reminds the husband that “It’s cold outside, so grab a sweater.” Throughout their morning routine, the wife keeps reminding the husband to grab a sweater. When the wife drives by her husband on his bicycle (on his way to work) we see the icicles hanging from his nose and his face and ears red with cold.

  • The Hinchcliffe/Holmes Era of Doctor Who (1975-77) Matt Hills
‘Gothic’ Body Parts in a ‘Postmodern’ Body of Work? The Hinchcliffe/Holmes Era of Doctor Who (1975-77) Matt Hills (1) The names Philip Hinchcliffe and Robert Holmes may not be greatly familiar to many academic readers of this volume, unless, that is, they also happen to be fans of the (1963-1989, 1996, 2005-) BBC TV series Doctor Who. Hinchcliffe was the producer of this series on all episodes originally transmitted in the UK between 25/1/1975 and 2/4/77, while Holmes was script editor on all material broadcast between 28/12/74 and 17/12/77. However, he went un-credited in this role on stories where he was named as writer, due to BBC regulations which forbade script editors to commission from themselves (see Howe and Walker, 1998). In story terms, Philip Hinchcliffe produced ‘The Ark in Space’ through to ‘The Talons of Weng-Chiang’, whilst Holmes script-edited stories running from ‘Robot’ through to ‘The Sun Makers’ (1977). Under Hinchcliffe as producer, Holmes also wrote ‘The Ark in Space’, ‘The Deadly Assassin’ and ‘The Talons of Weng-Chiang’, and effectively wrote, or at least heavily reworked, ‘The Pyramids of Mars’ and ‘The Brain of Morbius’ (on-screen, these were attributed to the pseudonyms Stephen Harris and Robin Bland). Today, Philip Hinchcliffe is a regular contributor to DVD commentaries and features accompanying ‘his’ Doctor Who stories. Robert Holmes passed away on 24th May, 1986: his overall contribution to Doctor Who is the subject of a documentary on the DVD release of the (1985) story ‘The Two Doctors’.
