NWU Type III

For most Drills, cadets are expected to arrive in their NWU (Navy Working Uniform) Type III. This uniform is used by both Sea Cadets (USNSCC) as well as League Cadets (USNLCC). The NWU Type III has multiple components as explained below. For questions, please contact your Unit Uniform Officer.

 NWU The NWU Blouse has a green camouflage pattern with pre-sown Velcro elements for flashes on arms and sometimes on the chest as well. Cadets must wear the following items on their NWU Type III blouse:

o USNSCC/USNLCC Flashes For Sea Cadets (USNSCC) there is a left and a right version. The eagle in the flash must look forward on each arm. For League Cadets (USNLCC) the flashes for left and right are the same. The flashes have a Velcro backing already.

o Name Tape On the right chest, right above the pocket, cadets must wear their name (last name only) on embroidered name tape (provided by your unit). This name tape may have to be sown or used with Velcro backing. (depending on blouse given). Name tape cannot be glued on! NOTE TO SEAMSTRESS; Please fold the ends of nametape underneath (back on itself) to match width of pocket then iron and crease, please do not cut.

o USNSCC/USNLCC Name Tape On the left chest, right above the pocket, cadets must wear the USNSCC (Sea Cadets) or USNLCC (League Cadets) on embroidered name tape (provided by your unit). This name tape may have to be sown or used with Velcro backing. (depending on blouse given). Name tape cannot be glued on! NOTE TO SEAMSTRESS; Please fold the ends of nametape underneath (back on itself) to match width of pocket then iron and crease, please do not cut.

o Rank Tab As of rank PO3, the rank tab must be worn on the center chest flap. Rank tabs are provided by your unit.

NWU Type III Trousers have two back pockets (Left and right). Just above the right back pocket, an embroidered name tape with last name of cadet must be worn. This name tape can only be sown on. No Velcro elements are available on trousers for the name tape. Name tape cannot be glued on! It must be sown on! NOTE TO SEAMSTRESS; Please fold the ends of nametape underneath (back on itself) to match width of pocket then iron and crease, please do not cut.

and Belt Buckle A black cotton belt with polished silver tip and buckle will be provided for the NWU Type III trousers. When wearing the belt: The silver tip should come out of the buckle without showing any part of the cotton belt.

 Cover Cadets wear a NWU Type III cover with USNSCC or USNLCC flash on the front of the cover. The cover is also called 8-pointer.

 T- Cadets must wear a Coyote Brown of Woodland brown crew neck T-shirt under their NWU Type III blouse. This shirt will not be provided by your unit and must therefore be purchased by cadet. Shirt can be purchased at Target or vanguardmil.com. But there are other stores where this can be purchased as well.

Boots, Blousing Straps and Shoeshine Kits will not be provided by your unit and must be purchased by yourself. Boots must have laces. (zipper on the inside is acceptable). Boots, Blousing Straps, and Shoeshine Kits can be purchased at any Military Surplus Store Locally or Online.

SHOESHINE KIT (EXAMPLE)  Cadets must wear black calf tube socks. These socks should be long enough to come out of the of the boots.

Dress White Uniform

The White Uniform is a ceremonial uniform worn from April 1st till September 30th. This uniform is only for Sea Cadets (USNSCC) The elements of this uniform are explained below. For questions, please contact your Unit Uniform Officer.

 Blouse () Each cadet will be given one Dress White Blouse (Jumper)

NOTE: The NAVY recently changed to the Dress White as shown above. We are still distributing the older model (See below)

 Trousers

Each cadet (USNSCC) will be given 1 (one) Dress White Trousers NOTE: must be white!

 Belt and Belt Buckle A white cotton belt with polished silver tip and buckle, will be provided for the NWU Type III trousers (Male cadets only). When wearing the belt: The silver tip should come out of the buckle without showing any part of the cotton belt.

 Cover (Dixie Cup) The cover is, together with jumper and trousers, a delicate piece of the uniform. Keep it away from sunlight when you are not using it. It tends to be subject to coloration when stored in an environment with too much sunlight. The cover is used with the Dress Whites and Dress Blues.

The black silk neckerchief is worn by NSCC male and female cadets with all jumper-style tops. Wear the rolled neckerchief with a large square knot, tied at the bottom of the V-neck opening of jumper, with ends of the neckerchief even. The upper edge of the knot should be even with point where the opens. (See the section at the end of this document how to tie the knot)

 T-shirt Cadet must wear a clean, white crew neck T-shirt under their Jumper.

 Dress Cadets must wear black dress shoes with the Dress Blue Uniform. It is not allowed to wear the Hi-Gloss dress shoes also called ‘Cheaters’. Dress shoes can be purchased in any store.

ACCEPTABLE NOT ACCEPTABLE (Cheaters)

 Socks For Dress whites (and Dress Blues) you must wear black dress socks

 Trousers Each cadet (USNSCC) will be given 1 (one) Dress Blue Trousers

USNLCC (League Cadets) Dress Uniform

The USNLCC Dress Uniform is a ceremonial uniform worn from October 1st till March 31st with a black and from April 1st till September 30th with a white dress shirt. This uniform is only for League Cadets (USNLCC) The elements of this uniform are explained below. For questions, please contact your Unit Uniform Officer.

 Dress Each cadet will be given one Black Dress Shirt. The White Dress Shirt should be purchased by the cadet. (Note: Cotton. No polyester. Preferrable a White Shirt where buttons are not visible)

NAVY Winter Blue Shirt - Johnny Cash Dress White Shirt

 Trousers Each cadet (USNLCC) should purchase one black pair of cotton trousers. A good choice is ‘George’ by Walmart or ‘Dockers’. brand.

 Cover (Dixie Cup) The cover is a delicate piece of the uniform. Keep it away from sunlight when you are not using it. It tends to be subject to coloration when stored in an environment with too much sunlight.

Physical Training (PT)

 PT and Shirt Your unit will provide you with one yellow USNSCC PT Shorts and one blue USNSCC PT Shirt.

For colder weather you may want to purchase navy blue or black and a navy blue or black Hooded sweatshirt. It is not mandatory to purchase the USNSCC hooded sweatshirt and sweatpants. But if you would like to wear this USNCSS gear, you can obtain this through vanguardmil.com

 White Socks, Running Shoes (Arch Support Recommended)

 Plain Black or Blue Swimming Shorts for Males & Plain Black/Blue One Piece for Females- Required for Unit and Trainings

This Official PT Gear for Summer and Cold Weather is Required for any Cadets that attend trainings. Note: PT shirt should be tucked in at all times!

 Cadet Swimwear

All male cadets are required to have plain black or blue shorts for swimming for unit and all NSCC & NLCC cadet trainings. All female cadets are required to have plain black or blue one-piece for unit and all NSCC & NLCC cadet trainings.
