THE CRESCEWT/ WINTER 1984-85 47 An Opportunity

Sisterhood spans 70 years

Helen Johns was initiated February 13, 1914 at the University of Oregon, and was Nu Chapter president in 1917. Her sister, Mary, was also a Gamma Phi Beta. A niece by marriage, Marilyn Murphy Johns (Oregon St.), is a close friend of Maggie Par sons who pledged Gamma Phi Beta at the Uni versity of California in 1983. Miss Johns wanted someone special to wear her Gamma Phi Beta badge and Marilyn felt that Maggie was the right person. Initiated January 27, 1984, Maggie proudly wears Miss Johns' badge. Ed. Note: A Gamma Phi Beta ivho tuishes to Loear the badge of another member, instead of purchasing her oivn, must first request and receive permission from Central Office before initiation. Gamma Phi Beta in 1914 and 1964 was the topic of con versation when Helen Johns and Maggie Parsons met last summer.
