Clarkson C- Slurry Throttling Valve 1” thru 10”

This unique valve provides both high performance and long life in the toughest of environments and features a truly variable orifice for throttling control of abrasive slurries.

Features • Specifically designed for slurry service. •No metal parts in contact with the flowing slurry. • Molded elastomer sleeve, no fabric. •Inherent abrasion resistance of sleeve provides both high performance and long life. • The C-Valve closes in compression, not tension, creating less stress on the sleeve, therefore the sleeve is not subject to tear propagation resulting from solid particles passing through the valve at high velocity. • Rubber muscle constricts a full 360-degrees around the sleeve maintaining a perfectly round and concentric aperture across the full throttling range. • Round orifice provides high capacity, straight through, unobstructed slurry flow. • Modified linear characteristic make the valve compatible with most automatic control requirements. • Throttling range from wide open to 50% reduction in diameter, or 75% reduction in orifice open area, up to a 90% reduction of maximum flow. • Field-replaceable, elastomer wear Shown with optional actuator and parts are standard. control accessories •Automated or manual valve actuation. •Valve sizing and applications assistance available. General applications Technical data •Mining Size range : 1” thru 10” (larger sizes •Power may be available) Operating • Pulp and paper pressure : 100 psi • Alumina Sleeve : Gum rubber standard • Chemical Temperatures: Standard sleeve rated to • Cement 160°F, up to 400°F with proper elastomer selection Options Reduced port sleeves available down to 3/16” diameter allows throttling range to be optimized for process conditions.

Features The design of the C-Valve takes into account the many culprits in slurry systems that cause problems for other types of including abrasion, cavitation, corrosion, sanding, scaling, and temperature. It is rugged and abrasion-resistant with good control characteristics. It features a straight-through flow path with no metal parts in direct contact with the slurry. The C-Valve consists of an elastomer sleeve, available in various materials, surrounded by an elastomer “muscle”, inside a cast ductile iron body housing. To the slurry flow, the muscle is compressed inward by hydraulic pressure, reducing the orifice size of the sleeve in a 360-degree squeeze. As it constricts, a round and concentric aperture is maintained across the entire throttling range, from wide open to 50% reduction in diameter. Elastomer This equates to a 75% reduction in open area sleeve or up to 90% reduction of maximum flow. Its closure pattern provides modified linear control. Various sleeves available to suit Sleeve retainer application in size and media The standard C-Valve sleeve orifice is full port in the wide-open condition; however, many Elastomer muscle Ductile iron body housing times a reduced port is better suited to the Face drilled and tapped to ANSI B16.5/150 application. Optional reduced-port sleeves are available to change the size of the orifice. It combines superior physical properties with a wide range of chemical compatibility. Other available elastomers include: Chlorobutyl: A high temperature elastomer having good physical properties for services up to 260°F. EPDM: High temperature applications up to 250°F. Neoprene: Compatible with many oils and solvents at temperatures up to 200°F.Modest abrasion resistance limits its use and poor permanent set qualities. Viton®, Nitrile, Hypalon and Urethane are also available on an application basis. Note Contact the factory for assistance in sizing and proper application of the available Viton® is a registered trademark of DuPont Dow Elastomers. elastomers.

Slurry throttling valve orifice C-Valve comparison Other slurry throttling valves, like a pinch valve, do not provide any throttling action until it is almost 60% closed. This Full open limited throttling range greatly reduces the effectiveness of the pinch valve to make fine adjustments to flow. The 100 C-Valve, on the other hand, begins to change flow immediately upon 80 actuation. The nearly linear characteristic of the C-Valve changes 60 the flow in proportion with actuator input. The C-Valve has superior 40 abrasion resistance over pinch type valves. With the elastomer sleeve 20 compressed a full 360-degrees around 0 by the muscle, abrasive particles cannot 22 40 60 80 100 initiate cutting and tearing.

By comparison, a pinch valve sleeve is Throttling position always being stretched, creating tension and exposing the pinch valve sleeve to rapid wear. Additionally, the unconfined sleeve is subject to flutter, further contributing to premature failure. Pinch Valve A slurry-throttling valve is a key part of a pipeline system and should be considered along with pumps, , Full open pipe, and fittings in the complete design. A common problem in the handling of slurries is valve sizing. No matter how 100 well designed the slurry valve is, to function properly it must be the correct 80 size. With the C-Valve, Tyco Valves & Controls offers the industry’s most 60 authoritative literature on valve sizing and custom recommendations. So when 40 you need slurry valves, don’t settle for just the hardware. Take advantage of the 20 many years of slurry valve applications 0 experience. 22 40 60 80 100
