About 377 million (31%)1 of India’s population lives in 7,935 urban areas and contributes 63% of gross domestic product (GDP). About 70% of the urban population resides in 4682 rapidly growing urban agglomerations and cities with a population of over 100,000, including 53 cities with a population of more than a million. Growth in the remaining small towns was nominal. The contribution to GDP from the urban areas is expected to increase to about 75% as the proportion of urban population reaches 40% of the total population by 2030. 2. Urban water supply in India is characterized by intermittent water supply (often for a couple of hours in a week) and low coverage, high nonrevenue water, and poor cost recovery. No city in India can claim for universal coverage with continuous pressurized water supply. The service levels are even lower in small towns, which have been upgraded from village character to a town. These small towns mostly depend on local groundwater sources with no treatment and no planned hydraulic networks. The small town local bodies have been struggling with limited financial resources further aggravated by a lack of competent and skilled human resources capable of delivering services expected from a fully functional water utility. 3. The investment in urban infrastructure3 up to the year 2031 was estimated at $53.5 billion for water supply and $40.5 billion for sewerage services at 2009–10 prices. -

Baseline, dipstick and endline evaluation study of TRIF-SRLM Pilot in Madhya Pradesh The Transforming Rural India Foundation (TRIF) initiative envisages to transform the lives of the rural communities by collating the forces of multiple stakeholders at different levels for multi- dimensional change. The framework of engagement revolves around the strategy of strengthening the capacities of the poor communities to aspire and to build conditions of ‘behaviour change’ to ensure their irreversible climb. The framework for the initiative stressed on engagement with the government to support civic action and user accountability while at the same time building partnerships with the private sector to create new opportunities and address constraints. The initiative will be implemented in eight blocks of Madhya Pradesh namely, Thandla, Petlawad, Sondwa, Manawar, Bijadandi, Aarpur, Samnapur, and Khategaon to showcase the efficacy of the multi-stakeholder engagement in transforming the lives of the rural communities and to substantiate its capability in making a substantial difference at scale. Before implementation baseline is being conducted in these project areas and matching areas. Sambodhi proposed a quasi-experimental Difference in Difference (DID) design for the study and the DID estimator as an estimate to evaluate the effects of interventions and other treatments of interest on the outcome variable. A draft tool capturing the critical variables related to health, nutrition, immunization, education and livelihoods was developed and piloted. An instruction manual/guide for the tool was prepared for data collection as it was quintessential for ensuring smooth functioning of field operations. The final tool was translated in Hindi after incorporation of pilot findings. -

PREAMBLE Minerals are the chief source of present phase of industrialization, and play an important role in the present phase of the national economy and overall development of the nation. India is endowed with significant mineral resources. India produces 89 minerals out of which 4 are fuel minerals, 11 metallic, 52 non- metallic and 22 minor minerals. The Laterite, Red Ochre & clay deposits occurring mainly in Shahdol, Satna, Gwalior, Katni, Jabalpur and Sidhi districts has led to establishment of number of refractory and some ceramic industries in the State. Laterite, Red Ochre & Clay project is located at village –Salebhar, Taluka Bahoriband; Katni District (MP). 6.83 Ha mining lease area is being operated by the lessee Smt. Rekha Sharma having office at Bhopal and she is private individual. In order to assess the likely impacts on environment due to ongoing mining activity and to have a tool of environment management, Smt. Rekha Sharma has submitted the Rapid Environment Impact Assessment study report for mining project. 2.
