BIOGRAPHY YEOL EUM SON VIOLIN

Double Second Prize winner of the International Competitions: Tchaikovsky in Moscow and the Van Cliburn in Fort Worth, USA. Yeol Eum Son made her debut as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic under on its 2004 tour of Asia, re-engaged in 2008.

She has performed with with the orchestras of the Mariinsky Theatre, Rotterdam Philharmonic and Czech Philharmonic, with Dmitri Kitajenko with the Tonkünstler-Orchesters Niederösterreich and Zagreb Philharmonic. She has also performed with the Seattle Symphony, Israel Philharmonic, Tokyo Philharmonic, NHK Symphony and Hirokami, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony, Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, St. Petersburg Symphony and Dmitriev, NDR Radio Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestras.

Highlights of her frequent solo and chamber music performances at the Mariinsky Theater, Bad- Kissingen Summer Music Festival (where she became the winner of "Klavierolympiade 2008" chosen by Germany's best music critics), Besancon Festival, Rotterdam Gergiev Festival, Helsingborg Piano Festival as well as many concerts with violinists Clara-Jumi Kang, Svetlin Roussev and throughout Asia with Kumho-Asiana Soloists group.

Concerti highlights of her current and upcoming seasons include appearances with the Gürzenich-Orchester, Konzerthausorchester Berlin and Bergen Philharmonic and Dmitrij Kitajenko; Paris debut date with Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and Mikko Franck; tour of Asia with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields and Sir Neville Marriner and European tour with KBS Symphony Orchestra and Yoel Levi; concert at the opening of the Beethoven Easter Festival with Warsaw Philharmonic and at the I International Mariisnky Far East Festival in Vladivostok under Valery Gergiev. Future recitals include debut at the Fribourg International Piano Series in Switzerland, with San Francisco Chamber Music Society and at the Philipps Collection in Washington DC. Return engagements include Aspen Music Festival, Great Mountain Music Festival and at the Mariinsky Theatre.

In February 2016, Yeol Eum released a new album under Universal Music Korea entitled Modern Times , featuring music of early 20 th century composers: Berg, Prokofiev, Stravinsky and Ravel. Her discography also includes her debut CD of complete Chopin Etudes released in 2004 and Chopin Nocturnes for Piano and Strings released in 2008, both under the Universal Music label.

Yeol Eum Son currently studies with at the Hochschule für Musik Theater und Medien Hannover in Germany. She holds a degree from the Korean National University of Arts, under the guidance of Dae Jin Kim. Previously she had studied with Cheng-Zong Yin, one of China’s most prominent pianists. Yeol Eum is an honorary ambassador of the Seoul Arts Center and her home city of Wonju.
