A checklist of Pterophoridae species of the fauna of Afghanistan is presented, as including 32 species of 14 genera. Merrifieldia tridactyla is for the first time recorded for the fauna of Afghanistan. The basic literature on the Afghanistan Pterophoridae were used in the study. Key words: Pterophoridae, plume moths, Afghanistan, fauna, new data. INTRODUCTION Many Pterophoridae as Cossidae are specific inhabitants of the arid regions of the Palaearctic. Usually deserts are good zoogeographical barriers preventing from mixing the faunas of different zoogeographical regions (Yakovlev & Dubatolov 2013; Yakovlev, 2015; Yakovlev et al., 2015). Until now there were no special publications on Pterophoridae from Afghanistan. The first description of a new species of Pterophoridae, Stenoptilia nurolhaki, from Afghanistan was in the work by Amsel (1967), In a series of works by Ernst Arenberger (1981, 1987, 1995), six new species were described from Afghanistan.

Key to the presently examined 13 genera of the subfamily Pterophorinae has been prepared on the basis of wing venation and male and female genitalic characters. Further, keys to the species of the genera such as Exelastis Meyrick, Megalorrhipida Amsel and Stenodacma Amsel represented by more than one species have also been furnished. The genus Tomotilus Yano is being reported for the first time from India. The distribution of the species Deuterocopus planeta Meyrick, Stenoptilia petraea Meyrick, Stenoptilodes taprobanes (Felder and Rogenhöfer), Amblyptilia forcipeta (Zeller), Exelastis phlyctaenias Meyrick, Procapperia pelecyntes (Meyrick) and Trichoptilus bidens Meyrick stands updated through an addition of more localities from northwestern India. Three new species, one of genus Lantanophaga and two of genus Megalorrhipida have been reported from the area, under reference. Besides giving an illustrated account of the new species, the genitalic account of already known species have been added to improve the descriptive account of these biological species. • Strategies to Develop Effective, Innovative and Practical Approaches to Protect Major European Fruit Crops from Pests and Pathogens (Grant Agreement No
DROPSA, December 2016 This short description was prepared in the framework of the EU FP7 project DROPSA - Strategies to develop effective, innovative and practical approaches to protect major European fruit crops from pests and pathogens (grant agreement no. 613678). This pest was listed in the DROPSA alert list for Vitis fruit. Nippoptilia vitis (Lepidoptera: Pterophoridae) Fruit pathway: Larvae of N. vitis damage leaves, stems and fruit (Biosecurity New Zealand 2009). Damage results in severe fruit fall and partially abnormal fruit (Biosecurity Australia 2011). Larvae feed inside the fruit and seeds of grape, usually causing the young fruit to drop (Biosecurity Australia 2011a). The larvae bore into the fruit from the stem end, feeding on the pulp and seed, eggs are laid on pedicels within the grape bunch. The larvae pupate on leaves or on fruit. Some fruit shrink, dry and remain on the bunch, but most berries drop to the ground after 3-5 days (Biosecurity Australia 2011). The larvae are large. If they remain on grape bunches at harvest, they are likely to be detected and removed during harvesting or packing processes. One larva can damage over ten berries. Grape bunches with several berries missing are unlikely to be picked or packed for export (ADA 2014). There is an uncertainty if this species would be on the pathway. Other pathways: Plants for planting, soil: The larvae also feed on the leaves, stems (Biosecurity New Zealand 2009) and flowers (Biosecurity Australia 2011) of grapevines. Adults overwinter in grasses, cracks in the soil or within dead branches or leaf folds (ADA 2014).

Pacific Insects 5 (1) : 65-209 April 30, 1963 TAXONOMIC AND BIOLOGICAL STUDIES OF PTEROPHORIDAE OF JAPAN (Lepidoptera)1 By Koji Yano ENTOMOLOGICAL LABORATORY, FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE, KYUSHU UNIVERSITY, FUKUOKA, JAPAN Abstract: The present paper treats 57 species belonging to 18 genera of the Japanese Pterophoridae. Fourteen new species are described, 4 species are recorded for the first time from Japan and 3 new synonyms are proposed. The larvae and pupae of 20 species belong ing to 13 and 12 genera respectively are described as well as the biological notes of them. Eleven species are injurious to the useful plants. Forty-two host plants including those after the previous records are listed. Keys to subfamilies, genera and species for adults are given. Preliminary keys to subfamilies for both the larvae and pupae, those to genera of 2 sub families for larvae and to genera of 1 subfamily for pupae are also given. China; Corresponding author, E-mail: [email protected] 3Fauna Conservation Department, Kadoorie Farm & Botanic Garden, Lam Kam Road, Tai Po, New Territories, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, P. R. China Abstract This paper reports 16 species of the family Pterophoridae from Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China. One species, Pterophorus attenuatus sp. nov. is described as new to science. Images of all the adults and the illustration of the genitalia of the new species are provided. A key for the identification of Hong Kong pterophorid moths is given. Key words: Lepidoptera, Pterophoridae, new species, Hong Kong Introduction Pterophoridae is a comparatively small family within the Lepidoptera. It is well-defined by the lower surface of hindwing having the special venous scales along M3 and Cu1 or Cu2. Most species of Pterophoridae have a cleft in the forewings and a double cleft in the hindwings. About 1190 nominal species in 91 genera under four subfamilies have been recorded in the world, which are widely distributed in all the zoogeographical regions. Li et al. (2003) reported 128 species in 38 genera from Mainland China. Kendrick (2002) recorded nine species from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, including five unidentified species.
