6th Regional Social Service Project -Doon School for Grades X, XI, XII

Dear Parent,

It gives me immense pleasure to share that our school has been invited to participate in 6th Rudraprayag Social Service Project at The Doon School, from 25th March to 4th April 2017. The details of the Project are as follows:

Project Area: Chaka (Tilwara)- This village is 15kms ahead of Rudraprayag town on the Rudraprayag-Kedarnath highway. Project site is situated next to river Mandakini which starts from Chorabari Lake (Kedarnath). This area was badly affected by August 2013’s flash foods. The proposed school building is meant for the flood affected children of the surrounding villages. Presently, the school is functioning from a make-shift school made of tin shed and some tents. Approximately 125 students from KG to Grade VIII are studying in this school. This school was functioning from a pucca school building from the earlier site situated next to the river bed of Mandakini. Part of it was completely washed away and the remaining building is not fit for a school. Hence, the need has arisen to construct a new school building so that children can have a proper and safe place for their studies. The new school building is now almost ready for students to move in to. Participants are expected to do the following during the project: 1. Help to finish the construction work (plastering, white washing, cleaning, etc.) 2. Drawing murals in class rooms and pillars 3. Levelling of the surrounding areas of new school building 4. Making a path to reach school from river side. There will be cultural events planned for entertainment for the participants, giving equal opportunity to showcase their talent. A couple of interesting treks would also be organised.

Trek to / Chandrashila / Deoria Taal: Two days trek and two nights stay will be organised for participants during mid Project break. Participants are expected to stay in Tents/make shift huts. All treks will be supervised by experienced guides/escort teachers /adults.

Tungnath Trek : A 3.5 Kms trek from which takes approx 3 hrs at a normal pace. However at this time, the trek will be full of snow and will be dependent on how much distance students can cover. Chandrashilla trek is further 1.5 kms from Tungnath (this destination is also dependent on snow conditions till Tungnath and further). Experienced local guides will be guiding students during the trek.

Deoria Taal Trek: This trek is approx 2.5 Kms from the road side, little steep initially. This trek will take approx 2 hrs with on a normal pace. Genesis being a Global Round Square School has participated in this project earlier and wishes to continue. The total cost for attending this conference is Rs. 40,000/- In case you wish your ward to participate, kindly send the filled up consent form to Dr. Poonam Minhas at [email protected] latest by March 10th, 2017.

Warm regards,

Pramod Sharma Director – Principal
