Guy Mitchell was a pop icon of the 1950-55 era and the most successful pop singer in the United States. Behind the scenes with London Welsh Drama

The London Welsh Trust Drama Group has been keeping a low disco dance practice); the Calthorpe Arms and Slough. We started meeting way back in January, just a Llansannan in North Wales want us to take the show on the road. small group - Sarah Berffro, Jason, David Walsh, David Hughes, Realising that we probably needed to up the ante, as we’d been Stuart, Glenys and I. And gradually, as word got round, the group away from ‘the scene’ for a while, we launched a publicity campaign grew and grew. A disproportionate number of us seemed to be from of enormous proportions. In addition to Sarah Berffro’s fantastic, Ynys Mon but that was by pure coincidence. Promise… informative and eye-catching posters, radio, tv and the press were First of all we had to decide how to fill the night. Our remit was not beyond our reach and it certainly paid off on the night as people to provide some form of entertainment (preferably of the dramatic variety) on a night in June. Beyond that we were pretty much free to do what we wanted. A sketch about a big baby with some clog dancing thrown in seemed to fit the bill and for our main piece Edgar Jones’s comedy Dau Dad looked like a winner. Who can resist a scheming wife callously pushing her husband around? We spent many tortuous hours mulling over the finer points of the play and we were helped enormously in this by Fraser Cains, aka Scruffy McGuffie of Grange Hill fame (sorry Fraser), who gave up a considerable amount of his time helping the cast with voice projection, movement, pace and overall polish. Practices revved up a gear as Iago, Alan, Iestyn, Angharad (costume and props mistress extraordinaire), Carwyn, Carys and Sian joined the group in the latter part of February. Then in April we were fortunate enough to have Ann from Benllech and Dafydd of Llanfair PG walk through the stage doors (those Gwlad y Medra folk arrived who’d heard about us on Jonsi and Geraint Lloyd on Radio again). In our last week Barbara from Poland was invaluable in Cymru and . lending her lighting expertise and at the very last moment Alec As the day dawned we were all pretty much exhausted from our Morris brought his muscle power along to ensure that scene endeavours.
