:: View email as a web page :: Chuck Klosterman once observed that every straight American man “has at least one transitionary period in his life when he believes Led Zeppelin is the only good band that ever existed.” Typically, this “Zeppelin phase” occurs in one’s teens, when a band that sings lasciviously about squeezing lemons while contemplating hobbits aligns with the surging hormones of the listener. But what about when you hit your early 30s? Is there a band that corresponds with graying beards and an encroaching sense of mortality? We believe, based on anecdotal evidence, that this band is the Grateful Dead. So many people who weren’t Dead fans when Jerry Garcia was alive have come to embrace the band, including many people in the indie-rock community, whether it’s Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, or scores of others. Check out this piece on why the Dead is so popular now, even as the 25th anniversary of Garcia’s death looms, and let us know why you like them on Twitter. -- Steven Hyden, Uproxx Cultural Critic and author of This Isn't Happening: Radiohead's "Kid A" And The Beginning Of The 21st Century PS: Was this email forwarded to you? BLONDES IN THE JUNGLE A film by Ball Deep International 2009. 48 minutes, Color, 16mm on DV. WINNER: "Best Narrative Feature", 2009 Chicago Underground Film Festival OFFICIAL SELECTION: International Film Festival Rotterdam 2010 OFFICIAL SELECTION: 2010 NewFilmmakers NY Winter Festival OFFICIAL SELECTION: Columbia Gorge International Film Festival 2010 OFFICIAL SELECTION: The 11th Melbourne Underground Film Festival 2010 Short Synopsis Comedy by artist-filmmakers Lev Kalman and Whitney Horn. On a hunt for the Fountain of Youth, three teenagers in 1980's Honduras buy drugs, harm nature and have magical encounters. Tons of landscape footage, a meditation on Mayan Archaeology and a heavy TV teen vibe highlight this very funny impulse-buy spiritual adventure. Original soundtrack by 1987 World Beat band El Jefe and The Executive Look, featuring contributions by members of Aa, Asobi Seksu, Birthday Boyz, Vampire Weekend and Julianna Barwick. http://www.blondesinthejungle.com Long Synopsis The film begins silently, the camera wandering through the jungle. We hear a distant drumming and follow the sound to reveal Armani Rivette, a Zack Morris-looking drug-dealer, shirtless, dancing alone to the music in his headphones. A title appears: “HONDURAS 1987.” Sitting on a porch are Jerome, Chino and Amber. Jerome is the teen child of white expats and Chino and Amber (brother and sister, 18 and 19 respectively) are visiting him from New York. They are lazily finishing their breakfast. A waterfall rumbles in the distance. They smoke drugs and listen to the radio as Jerome translates the show they're listening to. It is the story of the Children's Crusade, how thousands of young people in the middle ages went on a quest to Jerusalem only to be swindled, sold into slavery, and drown in the Mediterranean Sea.

  • Vampire Weekend Album Download Vampire Weekend Start '2021' with New 40:42 EP Featuring Two New Reinterpretations of Their Song
vampire weekend album download Vampire Weekend start '2021' with new 40:42 EP featuring two new reinterpretations of their song. For their new 40:42 EP released Thursday, the Grammy-winning band commissioned acclaimed jazz saxophonist Sam Gendel and the Connecticut rock quintet Goose to both create their own reinterpretations of the Father of the Bride album track. One twist though: Vampire Weekend gave Gendel and Goose the directive to turn their one minute and thirty-nine second long song into two twenty minute and twenty-one second versions (hence the title 40:42 ). In addition to fans being able to hear the two unique interpretations, Gendel and Goose both came with their own visuals. While Gendel's jazzy take comes with some improvisational animation, Goose chose to film themselves performing an intimate, up-close take on the song. Watch both Sam Gendel and Goose's versions of Vampire Weekend's "2021" above. The 40:42 EP is now available to stream across all digital platforms. Vampire Weekend. Purchase and download this album in a wide variety of formats depending on your needs. Buy the album Starting at £12.49. With the Internet able to build up or tear down artists almost as soon as they start practicing, the advance word and intense scrutiny doesn't always do a band any favors. By the time they've got a full-length album ready to go, the trend-spotters are already several Hot New Bands past them. Vampire Weekend started generating buzz in 2006 -- not long after they formed -- but their self-titled debut album didn't arrive until early 2008.

Academic choices. Students have four distinct choices to complete their undergraduate education. Oxford College Emory is alone among top research universities in offering two academically equivalent but environmentally distinct options for entering students. Founded in 1836, Emory College began in a small town about thirty-eight miles east of Atlanta. Thanks to the generosity of the Candler family, in 1915 Emory College moved its campus inside the city of Atlanta. The university decided to keep the original campus and while Oxford’s history is rich, today Oxford College is an academically equivalent but environmentally different opportunity for first and second year students. Students may apply to Oxford College to spend their first two years in a small- town/suburban setting.
