How to Master the Black Tie Look How To Master The Black Tie Look mensfashionmagazine.com /how-to-master-the-black-tie-look With the festive season well and truly upon us, it’s vital at this time of year to get your attire just right. For those who have an exquisite function to attend over the Christmas or just wishing to brush up on knowledge about formal attire – we have an inspiration guide for you to feast your eyes on. MFM love the party season and planning the perfect winter wardrobe for those extra special engagements and we know that it’s not always an easy task to go shopping for something specific at this time of year. Whether it’s a formal occasion nearing New Year; we have the essentials covered for you to look and feel great. Suiting When given the task of dressing to impress you must first think of the fundamental shopping factors when it comes to choosing a whole new outfit especially if it’s formal. A well cut suit follows a good quality shirt, bow tie etc – you don’t want to get caught out by wearing an old shirt that’s in dire need of a dry clean and is a bit worn. When purchasing a new suit think of the whole package, it’s important that your look flows and is complimented by its counterparts. Think about the cut, colour and style of the suit, don’t panic by the most convenient at hand. If you’re not sure after you’ve tried it, chances are after buying you won’t wear it again. Be sure to size up lots of different options online and in the shops – then decide on your favourite. Investing in a suit that’s a high quality and stature will carry you through the next few years or even a lifetime if you choose well. Spending a little more than you would usually part with will essentially pay off in the long-term. However, with so many choices in the shops today you don’t always have to take a chunk out of your wallet in order to buy something decent. Black tie can look classic and effortless if you follow these simple tips, remember it’s all about being understated and not over-doing the formal attire. Have a gander at these top suit combos… Shirt Up As mentioned earlier, opting for just the right shirt to accompany your suiting is pretty important. Look for something simple but of high quality – white is your best bet for black tie. However if you can compromise on the colour, choose from any shade on the spectrum. Time For The Shoes You can tell a lot from a guy’s shoes, especially at a formal event. Whether you opt for the traditional brogue, contemporary derby or are looking for a more quirky style– we’ve got some great picks to share with you … Selecting a brown or tan shoe with a dark suit will actually add an interesting edge to your look. Don’t be afraid to try out some different variations in colour and finishes. Or simply stick to black if that’s your game – with black or navy suiting. Accessories Don’t forget the extra details by adding print, texture and colour to tie your whole look together. Patterned and coloured bow ties look great when worn with a classic dark suit, try it out. One Last Note… Shopping for a black tie for a formal occasion we’ll admit is a bit of a mammoth task in itself. However if you follow these style steps you’ll be most of the way there and you’ll instinctively know what outwear and other accessories look good. Here at MFM we hope we have given you the heads up for creating a formal festive look this season; whether you have a work Christmas do on the horizon or are celebrating in style. Enjoy the party season while it lasts!.

  • Craft Sportswear and the Finnish National Biathlon Team Launches ‘Hannunvaakuna’ Racing Suit
Dec 03, 2015 08:00 CET Craft Sportswear and the Finnish national biathlon team launches ‘hannunvaakuna’ racing suit The collaboration between Swedish sportswear brand Craft and the Finnish national biathlon team has resulted in highly functional race garments with a truly strong presence. The new competition wear will be worn by Kaisa Mäkäräinen and her colleagues on the Finnish team during the 2015/2016 season. "We looked for something that would really set the suit apart from the competition," says Craft's designer Lena Karlsson. "Soon we came up with the 'hannunvaakuna', the looped square that is a common symbol in Finland and that conveys strength and good luck. Placing the patterns in lines that follow the moving body, we have created a suit that truly radiates speed and power." The new Finland Biathlon competition garments are based on Craft's revolutionary Podium Suit, which has been equipped with biathlon-specific details such as smooth rubber patches in certain areas to ensure steady and precise shooting. Made of very thin and lightweight Italian polyester, the suit offers superior moisture transport and body-temperature management. In addition, compression fabrics in the legs keep the muscles focused while ultrasonic taped seams create a smooth surface for optimal aerodynamics. The suit is packed with innovative features including Moving Wing Technology ™, which is a wing-like construction piece at the upper back that ensures total freedom of movement and allows the skiers to transmit all their power into each pole stroke. Furthermore, three-dimensional ergonomic design provides perfect fit and optimal comfort. Craft is a Swedish brand specializing in clothing for endurance sports where performance and comfort are crucial for a good result.

Excerpted from Kathy Peiss, Zoot Suit: The Enigmatic Career of an Extreme Style (Philadelphia: University of Pennsylvania Press, 2011). 6 For JTASZooting Around use the World only ‘‘ ome authorities feel that the only thing to do is to let the whole myste- rious business wear itself out and disappear through inner exhaus- Stion of its possibilities,’’ reported Agnes Meyer in the wake of the Los Angeles riot.1 In fact, it was much harder than those authorities thought to shrug off the zoot suit. During the war and for decades there- after, this style traveled across time and place, appealing to youths whose lives otherwise diverged. It turned up in wartime Great Britain and Aus- tralia, despite orders by their governments to conserve cloth for the du- ration. Bahamian farm hands, brought to Florida to pick crops, surprised their hosts by appearing in zoot suits. Canada had its own versions of zoot-suit unrest in the summer of 1944, and in occupied France, zazous sporting long coats and narrow trousers outraged officials. After the war, young people in other countries—from the stiliagi of the Soviet Union to the tsotsis of South Africa—picked up and adapted elements of an extreme style that had originated in American culture. The zoot suit was never a leading cultural product or intentional export of the United States in an era when the nation’s films, music, and consumer goods were reaching around the globe. Yet this seem- ingly ephemeral fashion traveled to many places during and after World War II. It is a telling example of a commodity that circulated 158 Chapter 6 without marketing campaigns and advertising but rather along ob- scure routes and through informal networks of influence—a process that has likely been more common than studies of consumer culture have recognized.
