1240 Geoffrey, son of Gilbert Martel claims common of pasture in relation to his estate referred to as Erleston Martel.

1264-1267 Second Barons War

1271 Marlston is owned by Richard Martel but it is not known what his relationship is to Geoffrey.

Unknown Richard marries Nubia, daughter of Geoffrey Gacelyn. Edward I 1272-1307 Strangely, Ralph Gacelyn grants him the Manor of Marlston as a dower. It is not known how Marlston has been lost to the Martel’s and come into the possession of Ralph.

1275 Geoffrey Gacelyn has the right of free warren in Marlston.

1316 Humphrey de la Rokele and Thomas Rydewarde are joint lords Edward II 1307-27 of both and Marlston.

1328 The last change of possession is disputed and Adam Martel brings a law-suit against Richard de Walden for recovery of his Manor. The suit is unsuccessful. Edward III 1327-77

1338 A settlement is made on Richard de Walden, his wife Alice and the heirs of Richard. Richard II 1377-1399 Henry IV 1399-1413 1417 Marlston is in the hands of John Jardyn and his wife Anne. Henry V 1413-22

1455-1487 War of the Roses Henry VI 1422-61 1470-71

1481 Marlston is split into moieties (portions) in favour of Anne Edward IV 1461-70 1471-83 (wife of Thomas Soper) and Agnes (wife of William Knottysford). They both quitclaim (transfer without warranty to ownership) Marlston to Sir William Norreys and his heirs. Edward V 1483 Richard III 1483-5 1506/7 Sir William dies leaving a son and heir, Lionel. Henry VII 1485-1509

1534 The Act of Supremacy – Church of Henry VIII 1509-47

1536 Lionel dies and having no son leaves Marlston to his daughter Jane, who marries John Cheyney of .

1549 Jane’s second son Humphrey is holding Marlston. He marries Edward VI 1547-53 Martha Yate, and settles Marlston on them both for life then, to their heirs.

Unknown Humphrey dies and Martha remarries, a James Braybrook. Mary I 1553-58 Unfortunately her first marriage yielded no children and a new settlement is worked out. Marlston is to be divided among the two families of Norreys and Braybrook.

1588 James Braybrook dies and leaves a moiety of Marlston to his Elizabeth I 1558-1603 grandson, Richard, son of his son William. James I 1603-25 1642-1651 English Civil War Charles I 1625-49

1651 Richard dies however 2/3rds of his estate has already been taken for not renouncing the Roman Catholic faith. Richard has left no sons but a daughter Margaret whose husband Humphrey Hide petitioned the committee to recover his wife’s inheritance.

1652 Humphrey at last succeeds only to die shortly after. Margaret refuses to take the oath of abjuration (renouncing Catholicism) and her estates are once again sequestered. Prior to this she has sold this moiety of Marlston to Thomas Holte and John Heron.

1653 James Heron and William Keate petition to recover the estate however the outcome of this is never known and the Manor and Lordship of Marlston is not recorded again.
