Sept/ 2017 News September 2017 Volume 5 Issue 11 Padre Pio Fraternity – Newsletter Secular Franciscan Order Brother and Sisters of St. Francis Region Fraternity Elections - Nomination Process: • Review OFS Essential Documents: General Constitutions Articles 76 to 82; NAFRA Statutes –Articles 7 to15 and “The Nuts and Bolts of Being on a Council”. • Prayer and Discernment: Ensure adequate time for both before making nominations. • Contact those you wish to nominate. Professed members and candidates may be nominated. • Before responding, the nominees should discern, pray and consider the examples of servant leadership of Jesus Christ, St. Francis and St. Clare. • Nominees respond to the call of the Holy Spirit. • Inform the Nominations Committee of acceptance. Our Chapter of Elections is over four months away, but preparation for it begins this month. Our focus should be to maintain an open mind and willing spirit as we spend time each day in prayer, reflection and discernment. Rather than focusing now on who we think would be a “good” choice for each office, we instead wholeheartedly turn to the Holy Spirit. We seek, acknowledge and embrace the workings of the Holy Spirit in our fraternity’s election process by listening to and accepting the guidance each of us receives. With much gratitude, we are then prepared to nominate to our fraternity’s Council whomever the Holy Spirit has chosen. By Joanne Jacovec OFS Election Committee Chair Congratulations 42 Years a Secular Franciscan Marguerite Zombek, OFS, AKA Marge was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on April 13 th. She was professed in Italy on the 23 rd of September in 1975. She was attracted to the Secular Franciscans because of her devotion to Padre Pio. She came here from East Point, GA. in August of 2000. She belongs to St. Andrew, the Apostle Church in Apex, where she belongs to several ministries. The picture to the left shows her leading us in the Devine Office Evening prayer, as she does at every gathering. "Bring him to me to be baptized when he is born," was his answer. He could often foretell the sex of an unborn child. The following year the fortunate couple returned to the monastery Church with their new baby boy, but in the Church of Our Lady of Graces there was such a large crowd that it was impossible to reach Padre Pio who was hearing confessions and then reciting the evening prayers . The mother remained in the parish house of San Giovanni Rotundo one mile away, whilst the father went to the monastery to talk to Padre Pio's fellow priests, telling them that Padre Pio had invited them to come there and that they were to meet with him; hoping to try to arrange a meeting with him in the next few days. Since by then it was getting quite late, he was told to come back in the morning. So, he returned to his wife at the parish house and when he arrived his wife informed him that Padre Pio had come to baptize the baby earlier in the evening. "But how is that possible!" he replied, because at the time specified Padre Pio was without a doubt in the Church reciting the evening prayers and hearing confessions of the many people assembled there. Padre Pio Quote "Essentially, you must persist in Christian justice, and in the principles of kindness, of virtue, from which humility explicitly stems. Internal and external humility, more internal than external; deep-felt, rather than demonstrated; profound, rather than visible.” - St. Padre Pio Apostolates For CPO or Library For Prayer Requests For the Newsletter E-mail Email Email Maureen Copan, OFS Laurie Wilburn, OFS Frank Peluso, OFS For Hospitality Email For the Scrapbook For the Website Email Marie Roccoforte, OFS Email Michael Hancock, OFS. • September 2020 Dispatch
September 2020 Dispatch Brother Knights, This serves as my second monthly dispatch to the council as Grand Knight… praise God for continuity and inspiration! It’s hard to believe that September is already here (Tempus Fugit, Memento Mori), but I pray that God has been present in your lives and that you are able to converse with the LORD daily and attend Mass in person or virtually as often as possible (see Good of the Order below). If you take a look at the summary of upcoming events below, you will see that we have another busy month. I would especially like to point your attention to the Silver Rose event. This has become a very important endeavor to me and I would really appreciate a good showing from brother Knights. Additionally, our monthly general meeting, which will be September 9 after 5:30 Mass, will be no ordinary meeting. There are two neat things happening, so perhaps you won’t want to miss it. I will be honest that I’m attempting to build up enough interest that we get to see a good number of new faces, which is always exciting. Fun fact: St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta, whose feast day is September 5, had an affinity for the Knights of Columbus. Although she was typically known to eschew worldly honors for her work, she did accept an award from the Knights of Columbus stating, “I accepted to come, and to accept out of sheer gratitude, for they (the Knights of Columbus) have done so much for our congregation and for our poor.” If I don’t happen to see you at any point this month, know that I will be praying for you and your family, asking the LORD to bless each of you abundantly! Happy birthday to Past Grand Knight Tim Mohatt and Terrence Rush today! Also, St.

  • Confirmation
CONFIRMATION December 1, 2020 Dear Parents and Students, You have elected to register your son/daughter for the St. Agnes Christian Formation program this year. When registering your son/daughter it is stated that our Confirmation program is a two-year program. This program challenges him or her to grow in his or her understanding of the Catholic faith and his or her personal relationship with God. There are several points to make you aware of in preparation for Confirmation (which starts in 8th grade with the student receiving the Sacrament with the completion of 9th grade studies) (due to pandemic this school year completion of 10th grade)). Successful completion of the curriculum includes once a month catechesis, service to others, and spending time with God in prayer. The greatest form of prayer is the celebration of the Mass. As Catholics, we are encouraged to attend weekly Mass in order to recognize God’s love more fully in the Word and Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. While the pandemic poses a particular challenge at this time, students and their families are highly encouraged to either attend weekly Mass in person (Precautions are in place to ensure everyone’s safety) or to seek out an online Mass to encourage growth in love for Christ in preparation for Confirmation. Below is a list of other expectations. Remember, these “assignments” are designed to support our students in their desire to know, love, and serve our wonderful God while helping to prepare them for the reception of the Sacrament. This process for being Confirmed in the Spirit is a commitment from the parish, support from parents, and a commitment from the student that wishes to be Confirmed.
