What’s New Festival is a gathering or an event ordinarily celebrated by a community and framing on some characteristic/aspect of that community and its religion or cultures. It is often marked as a national or local holiday. Festivals maybe religious or even events which features poetry, dancing, music and etc. In celebrating festivals, during the performance, participants played drums and other instruments in rhythmical patterns that serve as their music during parades and processions.

Niño in several towns of the province of Aklan, Island. The biggest celebration is held during the 3rd Sunday of January in the town of Kalibo, the province capital.

It is the annual cultural and religious festival held in the 3rd Sunday of January in Carmen, Cebu and the centre of the Sto. Niño Catholic celebration in the Philippines. The word “Sinulog” means “graceful dance” represents the “sulog” (or current) of a river in Cebu.

Sublian – a two week long celebration which culminates every year on the 23rd of July, rooted in the Batangueños devotion to the town’s patron: The “Holy Cross” in Bauan and Agoncillo, and the “Sto. Niño” in . The word Sublian came from the Indigenous dance of Batangas, the “Subli”.

What is It

Festivals in the Philippines offer people a chance to exhibit their rich culture and pay home age to the history and patron saints. They are vibrant, big, and celebrated with a lot of pomp and show. No wonder, each province has its own Filipino Fiesta that they are very proud of. Tourists from all over the world visit the Philippines not just to see its beautiful beaches and breath-taking sights, but also experience the country’s grand festivals that, without a doubt, make it more fun in the Philippines.

Selected Festivals

The Sublian Festival is a religious ceremony of Batangueños reflecting their great love and commitment to their towns patrons, the Holy Cross of Bauan and Agoncillo, and the Sto. Nino of Batangas City. The celebration involves praying, eating, singing verses with strict skeletal melody and dancing their famous dance called Subli. It is celebrated annually on the 23rd day of July.

The Ati-atihan Festival- the wildest of the Philippines Festival means “make- believe Atis” wherein participants portray the natives of Kalibo, Aklan called Aetas or “Ati”.

People shout and cheer “Via Santo Nino” and “Hala Bira” to encourage enthusiasm and continuous dancing for the duration of the festival. A week-long festival held every year during the third week of January consists of a tribal dance parade accompanied by a drum music, indigenous accessories and costumes to honor the Holy Child Jesus or the Santo Nino.

The Sinulog Festival – a traditional celebration in Cebu City held every third Sunday of January in honor of their patron Saint Santo Nino. This festival is among the major fiestas in the country and is famous among local and international tourist. The participants often yell out “Pit Senior” while dancing, believing that Santo Nino will grant their request. Different groups of dancers dressed in colourful attire are accompanied by drums, percussions, trumpets and native gongs.
