Dan Orsi scored the only goal over the two legs with a cracking strike from the edge of the box in the 1st leg at Loch Park. However, it was more than that one goal that separated the sides as the Glens showed great composure at New Dundas, never looking fazed against their confi- dent hosts, keeping them at bay while always looking dangerous on the break and of course cheered on by the travelling #AftonArmy—’more than a 12th man’. The team showed great professionalism on immediately re-tuning their sights on their title challenge with a fantastic midweek 1-0 away to fellow challengers Auchinleck Talbot thanks to a wonder goal from Conor Lynass and some more stout defending after going down to 10 men on the hour mark. The trip to Arthurlie began well with a sweet strike from John Carter to give the Glens a 1-0 lead at the break. The home side rallied after the break with a de- served equaliser and luck deserted the visitors after the wood work was struck three times ! The 1-0 defeat away to Girvan in the Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup leaves us with 5 league games (four at home) and of course the trip to Rugby Park on June 4th to face Auchinleck in the Scottish Junior Cup final Today we welcome the players and management of Hurlford United in what is their final game of the season. It took three games to separate the teams with the Glens progressing to their first final after an extra time winner in a 2nd replay and like then today’s match proved to be close encounter with the home side taking a 1-0 lead into the second leg at New Dundas Park next Saturday. The Glens had to make a late change to their starting line-up after top goalscorer Chris Dallas, who had picked up a knee-knock against Beith last week, required treatment in the pre-match warm-up before being deemed unfit to play and his place taken by Joe Andrew. After club captains Craig Menzies and Jonathan Stewart exchanged club pennants the Glens kicked-off against a cold and strong gusting wind. The visitors fashioned the first attempt a goal after Lewis Turner and Alan Horne combined well wide on the right before the latter broke into the box and fired for goal only for the ball to be blocked by David Gray. It was the Glens midfielder that set up the home side’s opening chance with a free kick floated to the back post where Kyle McAusland beat Dean Hoskins to the ball only for his header to sneak inches wide of target. On 7 minutes Turner’s attempt to gather a one-two with Wayne McIntosh inside the Glens box was intercepted by Menzies’ timely tackle and the grounded midfielder appeals for a penalty waved away. The home side enjoyed a good spell of pressure from a series of set pieces none of which test- ed Bonnyrigg keeper Michael Andrews. A wind-assisted Gray free kick from 35 yards out sailed over the bar. Soon after his corner-kick to the near post was cleared at the expense of throw-in which resulted in the midfielder gathering the ball on the edge of the box before thundering a shot screaming wide of the post. Back-to-back corner-kicks quickly followed, the first cleared at the near post and the second picked up at the back post by McAusland before the defender, from a tight angle, lashed a shot that screamed over the finger-tips of the keepers’ hands and over the bar.

Community planning puts local people at the heart of delivering services. It is not just about creating a plan or a vision but about jointly tackling major issues such as health, transport, employment, housing, education and community safety. These issues need a shared response from, and the full involvement of, not only public sector agencies but also local businesses, voluntary organisations and especially local people. The community planning partners in East Ayrshire are committed to working together to make a real difference to the lives of all people in the area. We have already achieved a lot through joint working, but we still need to do a lot more to make sure that everybody has a good quality of life. Together, those who deliver services and those who live in our communities will build on our early success and on existing partnerships and strategies to create a shared understanding of the future for East Ayrshire.

O.V.D. SCOTTISH .IUNIOR CUP ~INAL Sunday, 18th May 1997 ~ POLLOK F.C. • ~ TAVPO:T F.C. ~ Fir Park, Mothervvell Kick-off 3.00pm Oll=ll=ICIAL PROCRAMME - PRICE £ 144·1#1•=i43J9;ii 2·iilW t doesn't seem twelve months since Tayport were here at Fir IPark, claiming the O.V.D. Cup following their 2-0 extra-time victory over Camelon, but the ambitious young club from North-east Fife are back again, trying to retain the title they won so honourably last year. Tayport's impact on the Junior scene in seven short years since their admission has been quite remarkable . And this year 's Final pitches them against Pollok, another side who have also a very good record in the Cup since they won it for the first time in 1981 when they defeated Arthurlie. Despite both sides having regularly promessed to the advanced stages of the competition on a regular basis, this will only be the second meeting between the pair with Tayport out to exact revenge for the defeat inflicted upon them back in 1991 , Tayport's first season in the ranks of the Juniors . From the evidence of both semi-finals, an exciting encounter looks guaranteed this afternoon . Pollok were worthy winners against Blantyre Victoria at Adamslie Park, whilst Tayport's narrow win over Arthurlie was a very closely contested affair. I am more sure that both club's will do the occasion justice as both sides put the accent on skill. Match of the Day The last two finals have been clean sporting affairs and I would prevail on both clubs for a repeat of that discipline on the field.

  • Catrine's Other Churches
OTHER CHURCHES IN CATRINE THE UNITED SECESSION CHURCH (Later: The United Presbyterian Church) he 1891 Census states that in its early days the population of Catrine “…contained a goodly sprinkling of Dissenters…some of whom travelled to Cumnock to the TWhig Kirk at Rigg, near Auchinleck; but a much larger number went to the Secession Church at Mauchline. The saintly Mr Walker, minister there, becoming frail and not able to attend to all his flock, this (ie.1835) was thought to be a suitable time to take steps to have a church in Catrine”. An application for a site near the centre of the village was made to the Catrine Cotton Works Company, but this was refused by the then resident proprietor who said that: “He could not favour dissent.” A meeting of subscribers was held on 16th June 1835 when it was decided to approach Mr Claud Alexander of Ballochmyle with a request for ground. Mr Alexander duly granted them a site at the nominal sum of sixpence per fall. (A fall was equal to one square perch – about 30.25 square yards.) Another meeting of subscribers on 12th April 1836 authorised obtaining a loan of up to £350 to cover the cost of erecting a building on the site at the foot of Cowan Brae (i.e. at the corner where the present day Mauchline Road joins Ballochmyle Street). James Ingram of St.Germain Street, father of the eminent architect Robert Samson Ingram of Kilmarnock, was appointed to draw out plans. A proposal was approved to place a bottle containing the County newspaper in the foundation.
