Bhavan’s celebrates International Mother Earth Day

havan’s Public School celebrated the Interna- tional Mother Earth Day with great pomp and enthusiasm in all three campuses. The theme for the day was Environmental and Climate Literacy. Keeping the same message in mind, Ba special assembly was conducted in which the ‘Green Panthers’ emphasised the magnitude of collective respon- sibility to promote harmony with earth by ‘Reuse, Reduce and Recycle’. Mime was presented at the event and depicted the dangers of deforestation and its aftereffects.Director of administration, Anjana Menon, Headmistress and coor- dinators along with students planted the saplings and seeds in the garden. The main aim was to sensitise the students about tree plantation and the increasing environmental degradation. The activities did exhort everyone gathered to save flora and fauna, soil and water from the unhealthy man- made practices. The Earth Anthem was sung by the students, showcasing care and responsibility towards Mother Earth. KG students at Rajagiri organised Earth Day event he KG students of Rajagiri school came on to the stage representing the Mother Earth, ani- Tmals and flowers. They looked sick and unhappy. Enquiry was made as to why they were sad. Not know- ing the reason, they requested the doctor to come. The doctor gave them the much sought after medi- cine, pure drinking water. The pure water made all of them return to health and wellness. The kids conveyed the message so effectively. Teacher Hema and coordinator Heena and Kajal, the HOD, helped them understand the relevance of observing Earth Day. They learned that the water and air have to be clean. Polluted water and air will make all ill and unhappy. They were inspired to take the decision that they would not do anything that would pollute the Mother Earth. Finally they all had a beautiful dance together set to an enjoyable tune. They carried the message home in their minds and the roles they played inspired them remember the message for a long time. 04 COVER STORY WEDNESDAY 3 MAY 2017

his brightly lemony quick bread, punctuated with gently crunchy poppy seeds, is sweet and ten- der enough to satisfy a Tcake craving, but it does so in a much better-for-you way. It is made with healthful olive oil, mostly of whole-grain flour and has much less refined sugar than similar recipes. The loaf is sweetened in part with honey, which not only lends a rich flavor and some antioxidant power, it also makes for an ultra-moist crumb. Because honey increases browning, the cake bakes at a lower temperature, which makes the top turn out level rather than with a high crown.
