  • Cootamundra War Memorial
COOTAMUNDRA WAR MEMORIAL ALBERT PARK – HOVELL STREET COOTAMUNDRA WORLD WAR 1 HONOUR ROLL Compilation by Kevin Casey, Breakfast Point 2012 COOTAMUNDRA WAR MEMORIAL – WORLD WAR 1 A marble obelisk and other memorials have been erected in Albert Park in memory of those citizens of Cootamundra and District who served and died in the defence of Australia during times of conflict. The names of many of those who served in World Wars 1 and 2 are engraved and highlighted in gold on the obelisk. This account has been prepared to provide a background to the men associated with the Cootamundra district who served and died in World War 1. While it is acknowledged that an exhaustive list of local men who served in the war has not been compiled, this account briefly highlights the family and military backgrounds of those who did and who are recorded on the obelisk. Other men not listed on the obelisk but who were associated with the district and who also served and died in the war have been identified in the course of the research. They are also included in this account. No doubt further research will identify more men. Hopefully this account will jog a few memories and inspire further research into the topic. An invitation is extended to interested people to add to the knowledge of those who served Those who served came from a wide range of backgrounds. A number of the men had long family associations with the district and many have family members who are still residents of the district.

LACHLAN SHIRE COUNCIL PO BOX 216 CONDOBOLIN NSW 2877 PHONE: (02) 68 951 900 FAX: (02) 68 953 478 ROAD CONDITION REPORT To: Media Release From: Keith Dawe Company: Councils & Communication Outlets Date: 24 October 2016 Report Number: 66 Time: 3:00PM Next review: Tuesday 25th October 2016 3 pages Many roads in Lachlan Shire are impacted by flooding as noted below. Long distance travel through Condobolin is not recommended with roads flooded and damaged. Road closures variously restrict light vehicles, heavy vehicles or all vehicles. Please take a safer alternate route or better still, defer travel if not essential. See attached map. Condobolin access to West Wyalong via Gipps Way is open – temporary repairs have been completed on the road. Caution as water remains over the road in a number of locations. Access for high clearance 4wd vehicles less than 3 tonne is available from Condobolin to Tullibigeal, Lake Cargelligo and West Wyalong via SR230 Lachlan Valley Way and SR1029 Tullibigeal Road. Caution as road condition is deteriorating Extra caution is advised as many roads are affected by current flooding or the residual effects from flooding, including soft shoulders, washouts, bog holes, potholes, slippery road surfaces, debris, water on roads and hidden hazards under the water. Conditions can change quickly. More land holders may lose access – make preparations before roads are closed by flooding . Tottenham area – residual damage from flooding, caution is advised: • Tullamore–Narromine road now open to vehicles under 3 tonne – severe road damage. • MR347 Dandaloo Road , Albert-Trangie – open with caution , temporary repairs. • SR3 Tabratong Crossing Road , Tottenham-Nevertire – open with caution , temporary repairs and one lane traffic access.

  • St Thomas Rest Park Conservation Management Plan
ITEM CLS08 REPORTS 15/12/14 NORTH SYDNEY COUNCIL REPORTS Report to General Manager Attachments: 1. St Thomas Rest Park CMP October 2014 SUBJECT: St Thomas Rest Park Conservation Management Plan AUTHOR: Ian Hoskins, Council Historian ENDORSED BY: Martin Ellis, Director Community and Library Services EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The need for a Conservation Management Plan (CMP) was identified in the North Sydney Council Plan of Management (PoM) for St Thomas’ Rest Park. The primary objective of the CMP is to guide the conservation of St Thomas’ Rest Park and its ability to act as a source of information for visitors interested in the history of the North Sydney area, St Thomas’ Church and the former Cemetery itself. The CMP investigates the potential state significance of the cemetery based on the people interred there and its historical significance, including the use of the cemetery as an unofficial naval/maritime cemetery. The CMP recommends North Sydney Council carry out the assessment of individual monuments and headstones in accordance with the National Trust “Guidelines for Cemetery Conservation”. This will provide better guidance for the ongoing restoration, general maintenance and management of the Rest Park. The CMP identifies the circumstances in which the relocation and restanding of monuments and headstones will be acceptable and possible compatible uses within the Rest Park including anastylosis, a memorial wall and columbarium. It also considers additional educational opportunities within the Rest Park and potential research opportunities. 8 FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: A request for funds to begin implementing the recommendations of the CMP in both 2015/16 and 2016/17 has been submitted to the upcoming estimates process.

Rural women’s experiences of depression are of concern because of the barriers they face in accessing services and health care, due in part to factors such as isolation, violence, stigma, stoicism, and poverty (Alston et al., 2006). Despite numerous studies on depression, the literature contains only one mixed methods study and one qualitative study that address the topic of rural Australian women’s experiences of depression. This thesis argues that women’s experiences and experiential knowledge, as well as the challenges faced by women living in the bush, have not been adequately considered by previous research and that the accounts of these women are valid as a source of knowledge in their own right. Hearing from women about their lived experiences provides a rich source of information that may not be revealed without a qualitative study that begins and ends with the women as the central focus. The overall purpose of this study was to understand the lived experiences of women who were experiencing depression within the context of rural NSW.
