Putri And Reese THE IMPACT OF ‘KOREAN WAVE’ ON YOUNG INDONESIAN FEMALES AND INDONESIAN CULTURE IN JABODETABEK AREA Vandani Kencana Putri Matthias Reese Swiss German University, Tangerang, Indonesia Swiss German University, Tangerang, Indonesia Email: [email protected] Email: [email protected] Popular culture ‘Korean Wave’ has been reaching out all over the world since the year 2000 with the phenomenon intriguing people’s interests towards Korean culture and products. In fact, some Abstract people already prefer Korean culture and products to those from their own country. It is inevitable in Indonesia, too, where most of its K-Wave-enthusiasts are teenage to adult females. With this in mind, there is a possibility that Indonesian culture might eventually vanish in those individuals. Thus, this quantitative research focuses on Indonesian female K-Wavers between 15 and 30 years old who are living in the Jabodetabek area, and investigates their main medium of Korean Wave consumption and whether Korean Wave has an impact on individuals and on Indonesian culture itself. The results based on the data of 251 respondents show that internet is the main medium of Korean Wave consumption in the Jabodetabek area. Furthermore, the results injdicate that the Korean Wave does significantly impact Indonesian female K-Wavers in several aspects, but an impact of the Korean Wave on Indonesian culture could not be found. 35 BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT STUDIES JOURNAL c MARC 2016 . V Rethinking the State After Bollywood
RETHINKING THE STATE AFTER BOLLYWOOD Ashish Rajadhyaksha More on Bollywood Nothing, in the hugely marketed hype of the „Indian Summer‟ of London, 2002, was more characteristic of the season than designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla's „recreation‟ of movie star Dimple Kapadia‟s Bombay home on the ground floor of the London department store, Selfridges. But then, these weren‟t normal times. An event that might well have normally seen Dimple‟s straight rise to the dimensions of a present-day Lola Montes, with crowds ogling at simulations of her living spaces, was here no more than an announcement of „Bollywood at Selfridges May 2002‟, to be attended by Amitabh Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit and Dimple Kapadia. The event jostled for media coverage through the year with a series of other crowd-pulling shows such as the „Imagine ASIA‟ (April) event at the British Film Institute launching „an 8 month long nationwide celebration of South Asian cinema. Screenings, exhibitions, books and talks galore!‟, the „Bombay Dreams Week‟(June) to „celebrate Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber‟s production of A.R. Rahman‟s Bollywood musical with a week of special features‟, and the „Devdas Week‟ (July) „to mark the release of the most anticipated Bollywood movie this summer... Including exclusive interviews with the stars‟. At a multicultural music, art and dance series at Trafalgar Square, Mayor Ken Livingstone launched the guide to „Asian London‟ (http://www.london.gov.uk) that came to officially represent everything that now stood for Bollywood, „activities including fairs, -

January 2018 Gallery Exhibit: HOPE Houston Artist and Long-Time WAS-H Friend and Instructor Ellen Orseck Judged the January Monthly Exhibit
Watercolor Art Society - Houston | Washrag Newsletter | February 2018 1 February 2018 January 2018 Gallery Exhibit: HOPE Houston artist and long-time WAS-H friend and instructor Ellen Orseck judged the January Monthly Exhibit. Her prevailing comment on all the work was that each piece, in its own way, spoke to the much needed quality of HOPE in our world today. The winners are: 1st Place - Christine Bunger “See the Light” 2nd Place - Lynda Jung “No Time Is the Right Time” 3rd Place - Fred Kingwill “The Future—Robin’s Eggs” Honorable Mentions awarded to: Sana Shaw “Awakening of the Star” Richard Scruggs “El Camino Pilgrims” Robin Beckwith “Fragments of Imagined Spring” Liz Hill “Leopard Hat” Each of the first three winners draws the viewer into the center of the painting and beyond! Chris Bunger’s stunning copse of tall trees reaching for the sky and light draws us out of the current darkness of the world to a spiritual point of light and hope and life. Lynda Jung’s 1st place - Christine Bunger “See the Light” reflection on time stretches us to think of time past, present and future, within the clock-like piece she places organic and non-organic elements of life. Fred Kingwill’s small piece uses the circular, womb-like nature of the nest holding the promise of new life to strengthen our hope in the future. Ellen also found it interesting that each of these pieces effectively broke the traditional rule of not centering the focal point on the page. It is the quality of BEYONDNESS and HOPE IN THE FUTURE in each of the pieces that makes the break 2nd place - Lynda Jung “No Time Is the 3rd place - Fred Kingwell “The Future— successful! The Globalization of K-Pop: the Interplay of External and Internal Forces
THE GLOBALIZATION OF K-POP: THE INTERPLAY OF EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL FORCES Master Thesis presented by Hiu Yan Kong Furtwangen University MBA WS14/16 Matriculation Number 249536 May, 2016 Sworn Statement I hereby solemnly declare on my oath that the work presented has been carried out by me alone without any form of illicit assistance. All sources used have been fully quoted. (Signature, Date) Abstract This thesis aims to provide a comprehensive and systematic analysis about the growing popularity of Korean pop music (K-pop) worldwide in recent years. On one hand, the international expansion of K-pop can be understood as a result of the strategic planning and business execution that are created and carried out by the entertainment agencies. On the other hand, external circumstances such as the rise of social media also create a wide array of opportunities for K-pop to broaden its global appeal. The research explores the ways how the interplay between external circumstances and organizational strategies has jointly contributed to the global circulation of K-pop. The research starts with providing a general descriptive overview of K-pop. Following that, quantitative methods are applied to measure and assess the international recognition and global spread of K-pop. Next, a systematic approach is used to identify and analyze factors and forces that have important influences and implications on K-pop’s globalization. The analysis is carried out based on three levels of business environment which are macro, operating, and internal level. PEST analysis is applied to identify critical macro-environmental factors including political, economic, socio-cultural, and technological. -

Diasporic Nationalism and Academic Pilgrimage of the Korean Christian Community in Jerusalem
S/N Korean Humanities Volume 7 Issue 1 Between Two Homelands: Diasporic Nationalism and Academic Pilgrimage of the Korean Christian Community in Jerusalem Irina Lyan The Hebrew University of Jerusalem Received January 12, 2020; Revised version received February 17, 2021; Accepted February 28, 2021 Abstract This article brings a transnational approach to the concept of diasporic nationalism, often narrowly conceptualized through the paradoxical link between displaced nation and territory. Based on a one-year ethnographical account of the Korean Christian community in Jerusalem, the article aims to challenge the already troubled concept of diasporic nationalism through the prism of a religious supranational “homecoming” to the Holy Land that might both enhance the national identity and transcend the very significance of nation and nationalism. Rather than viewing diasporic individuals as brokers, educators, and even as “exemplary citizens” or ambassadors of their historical homelands, I suggest moving away from a “hypernationalist” framing of diaspora as an extended nation toward a nuanced understanding of diasporic action and agency. By juxtaposing national and religious nostalgia for “imagined homelands,” I argue that while national identity makes Korean community members outsiders in an unwelcoming Israeli society, their status as Christians brings them back to their religious origins through what I call an “academic pilgrimage.” I ask how the Korean Christian community, modeled on the concept of nation-within-nation, negotiates its -

THE RELATION OF ST. PAUL'S ETHICS TO HIS DOCTRINE OF SALVATION BY H. W. KSRLEY, B.A., B.D. A THESIS PRESENTED TO THE FACULTY OF DIVINITY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF EDINBURGH FOR THE DEGREE OF PH.D. THE RELATION OF ST. PAUL'S ETHICS TO HIS DOCTRINE OF SALVATION CONTENTS Page CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION................................ 1 CHAPTER TWO CONVERSION AND BACKGROUND................... 10 CHAPTER THREE THE DOCTRINE OF "IN CHRIST1"................. 60 CHAPTER FOUR THE NATURE OF: REDEMPTION.................... 106 CHAPTER FIVE THE NATURE OF JUSTIFICATION................. 145 CHAPTER SIX THE NATURE OF RECONCILIATION................ 182 CHAPTER SEVEN THE LIFE OF HOLINESS........................ £14 CHAPTER EIGHT ETHICAL PRESUPPOSITIONS..................... 248 CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION In the epistles of St. Paul we find a remarkably well- developed theology. Ethical teaching is, however, by no means lacking. A brief survey is sufficient to show that a large proportion of his extant writings is devoted to practical advice and exhortation. Frequently the main body of ethical teaching follows the section in which his theology is developed and explained. Sometimes, as in the epistle to the Romans, the transition seems to be abrupt and the connection obscure. Possibly it is for this reason that there has been, at times, a tendency either to emphasize the doctrine or the ethic to the exclusion of the other, or to give more or less equal weight to both, and thus to emphasize the disconnection between the two. Some ages have taken St. Paul's doctrine without his ethic. Our own seems to be more concerned with ethics than with theology, and the attempt is made to establish morality without a doctrinal basis. -
