The world is more globalized today than ever before. Individuals and nations alike have to be informed about international issues in order to succeed 12 . Yet, even amidst the rapidly growing need for international news, the majority of domestic news providers have cut their foreign coverage drastically 1. Some providers blame the internet for fragmenting audiences and detracting from revenue and readership. The internet allows readers to derive international information directly from foreign sources at no cost. This has created a strong push for domestic news outlets to focus on local and hyper local stories 2.

  • Energy in Jordan a Youth Perspective Position Paper
Energy in Jordan A Youth Perspective Position Paper A joint project between Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Germanwatch and the Written by: Green Generation Foundation Amjad Khashman Kareem Shukri Qusai Al-Abbassi Mohammad Aliwat Ehab Al-Amleh Sewar Taweel Safa Al-Momani Sarah Haddadin Leen Baddar Yousef Awawdeh “Young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are the leaders of today […] Young men and women like you are bringing new energy, creativity and dynamism to labor markets, to schools, to universities like this one [University of Jordan], to government, and – I hope – to diplomacy and international relations.” - UN Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon in Amman 2016 - [LW1] The impacts of climate change can already be felt across the world and are becoming more severe as the global average temperature rises. Countries all over the world are engaged in a race against time to tackle the global climate crisis. Limiting global warming implies reconsidering almost all elements of our daily life, most of which are connected to the energy sector: water, food, buildings, transportation, global trade, etc. The energy sector is the largest source of global greenhouse gas emissions through its burning of fossil fuels to generate electricity, produce heat or power engines, which directly causes climate change. However, as technologies rapidly improve and prices drop, many renewable energy options have emerged as an alternative to fossil fuels. Promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency is now an important part of the international climate debate and national energy policy in many countries, both of which are aimed at slowing down climate change.

First, it outlines the “standard itineraries” given to Arab delegations touring China both in the 1950s and in the twenty- first century, demonstrating how the changes to this agenda reflect the shifting priorities of the Chinese state. Second, it explores how the Chinese government has refined the vision of Chinese Islam that it presents to visitors from the Middle East, taking into account Beijing’s changing attitude toward expressions of Islamic piety.

Unità operativa del Centro per la Cooperazione Internazionale Media Freedom in Turkey by Fazıla Mat and Valentina Vivona Dossier ECPMF January 2019 www.balcanicaucaso.org OBC occasional paper - 2 Index Introduction..............................................................................................3 Background Information..............................................................................3 Criminalisation of journalists: all done in accordance with the letter of the law....4 Monitoring court cases................................................................................7 International Solidarity...............................................................................9 Journalism despite all................................................................................10 OBC occasional paper - 3 Introduction Turkey’s media system, which had been characterised by clientelism, conglomeration, and politicisation since the 1980s, further deteriorated during the Justice and Development Party (AKP) regime. This deterioration was the result of reshuffling of media ownership structures, record journalist imprisonment, exploitation of broadcast, Internet, and press laws to silence oppositional voices as well as stricter regulations on the Internet and social media. Despite this problematic background, the bloody coup attempt that took place in July 2016 was an unprecedented turning point for Turkey’s media, as well as for its political, economic, and socio-cultural landscapes.
