he temperatures might be cold outside, but Wolves Tmen's basketball is just heating up. The opened up 2009 with a busy month of basketball including a total of nine crucial conference games. Among these nine games were a few new conference opponents as well as many old rivals. The first game of the New Year was on the road against perhaps the Wolves' biggest rival - the . The Wolves started off slow and went into the half down by five points, but senior forward Kevin Ratzsch, Bloomington, Ill., led the Wolves back in the second half, scoring seven points in the first five minutes. The Warriors would stay within attacking distance before they finally used a 12-0 run to take a double-digit lead over the Wolves. The Wolves would be unable to mount a comeback and would lose the contest by a final of 85-75. The loss marked the 11th straight against the Warriors with Northern's last win coming back on March 6, 2005. Ratzsch led the Wolves with 23 points while junior guard Mitch Boeck, Arlington, followed up with 19 points including four shots from beyond the three point line.
