July 17, 2017, Issue 559 Together Again For The First Time There’s more to the new WWYZ/Hartford morning pairing than the typical late career format jump. Many years ago, Cory Myers met a friend at the suburban Hartford nightclub Fantasia. While there, she had a conversation with the booth deejay about her interest in radio. Myers spent a year-and-a-half as an intern for that deejay, Damon Scott, at Hot AC WTIC-FM before mov- ing on to a career that culminated in her now two-decade run at crosstown Country WWYZ. Last month, Scott joined Myers in mornings at WWYZ. As for the club, it’s now called Cadillac Ranch. And, yes, they play country. Cory Myers Chemistry Lab: With their history, Scott and Myers have an obvious chemistry that may actually be combustible. “I have a couple of working titles for this story,” jokes Scott. “’The Future of Country Music’ or ‘Two Mete- ors Collide.’” With that, he and Myers are off My Guy: The Curb crew celebrates Dylan Scott’s first No. 1 “My to the races, finishing each other’s sentences Girl” today in Nashville. Tonight you're flying and a couple of nights ago you were playing musical instruments you hadn't played before with complete mastery... sweet dreams... July 31, 2017, Issue 561 All Roads Lead Back ... To Radio Steve Pleshe’s first run at KSKS/Fresno started in 1994, and he eventually rose to PD. In 2008 he made the jump to the label side and, after nearly 10 years on the road with RCA, Stream- sound and Black River doing West Coast promotion, he returned to the station as PD in May (CAT 5/2). Though not unheard of, the majority of migrations are radio to records, so Pleshe is able to bring an uncommon perspec- tive to his new old role. Understandably, there’s a high degree of familiarity, most of it welcome. MD/morning show co-host Jody Jo is still there. Her co-host Gnarley Charley also remains, though he was in nights a decade ago. “The GM, sales man- ager and regional sales manager are also still Steve Pleshe here,” says Pleshe. “The craziest thing for me is that the equipment in the studio is all the same,” he adds. “When the station was built in 1997, it was all cutting edge. Now we’re about to get all new gear. We just had Got The G And The B: Pearl’s Garth Brooks and Gwendolyn’s an engineer from corporate telling us about it.” Trisha Yearwood backstage with KSNI/Santa Maria, CA’s Jay Seeing airplay from the record label side has given him new Turner and Jessica Chavez (l-r). appreciation for the power of radio. “I love having the ability to help artists achieve their dreams by playing their songs,” he says.

  • THE SONG of the BIRD Anthony De Mello S
THE SONG OF THE BIRD Anthony de Mello S. J. This book has been written for people of every persuasion religious and non religious, I cannot, however, hide from my readers the fact that I am a priest of the Catholic Church. I have wandered free-ly in mystical traditions that are not Christian and not religious and I have been profoundly influenced by them. It is to my Church, however, that I keep returning, for she is my spiritual home; and while I am acutely, sometimes embarrassingly, conscious of her limitations and narrowness, I also know that it is she who has formed me and made me what I am today. So it is to her that I gratefully dedicate this book. Everyone loves stories and you will find plenty of them in this book: Stories that are Buddhist, Christian, Zen, Hasidic, Russian, Chinese, Hindu, Sufi; stories ancient and contemporary. And they all have a special quality: if read in a cer-tain kind of way, they will produce spiritual growth. HOW TO READ THEM There are three ways: 1. Read a story once. Then move on to another. This manner of reading will give you entertainment. 2. Read a story twice. Reflect on it. Apply it to your life. That will give you a taste of theology. This sort of thing can be fruitfully done in a group where the members share their reflections on the story. You then have a theological circle. 3. Read the story again, after you have reflected on it. Create a silence within you and let the story reveal to you its inner depth and meaning: something beyond words and reflections.

April 10, 2017, Issue 545 RAC Clark: Inside The ACMs A conversation with 52nd ACM Awards Executive Producer RAC Clark: Let’s get right to the elephant: Ratings were down again. We had the insanity of the 50th where everything fell into place, and that’s a hard standard to hold to. I don’t know what the new normal is for country music awards shows in the spring, but we’re finding it out. And I really don’t know what else to do. We had great music, great partici- pation from our stars – I’m stumped. Can we do something different with marketing, with production? We had stiff competition – base- ball, Walking Dead and WrestleMania – but RAC Clark we always do. At the same time, it was Final Four weekend, which has always been good to us, and CBS had huge ratings. We’ll do an extensive debrief over the summer and get into all the different factors. Road Warriors: Team Lauren takes their No. 1 celebration on The show was well-received in the room and our radio the road to iHeartMedia/Nashville. Pictured (l-r) are Mercury’s readers gave it high marks last week. Jack Christopher, iHeartCountry’s Rod Phillips, Mercury’s Damon I will happily say we were technically flawless. UMGN’s Royce Risser, WSIX’s Gator Harrison, manager Trisha McClanahan and UMGN’s David Friedman. Having the Entertainer nominees open was so strong and such a simple concept.
