CADDIES

Inverness maintains an excellent caddie program. All members are encouraged to support the caddie program by using a caddie whenever one is available. Use of caddies is a healthy way to enjoy golf at Inverness, and helps avoid damage to the course caused by golf carts.

Members and guests under the age of 55 are required to use caddies when available prior to 3:00pm. Junior and Intermediate members and junior players are encouraged to take a caddie but are not required to do so. Those with a doctor certificate confirming a temporary disability or physical limitation are allowed to take a cart with a forecaddie.

Caddies, as part of their training, have been instructed to eat prior to the round, and to carry a water bottle or use the course water fountains during the round for hydration. There is no need for the player to provide any beverages or food to the caddie during the round.

The caddie rates in effect for 2016 are:

Single bag 18-holes: $40.00 + Gratuity Single bag 9-holes: $25.00 + Gratuity Double bag 18-holes: $35.00 + Gratuity Double bag 9-holes: $20.00 + Gratuity

Recommended caddie gratuity rates in effect for 2016 are:

Excellent 18-holes: $20.00 Good 18-holes: $15.00 Average 18-holes: $10.00 Poor 18-holes: $5.00 Excellent 9-holes: $12.00 Good 9-holes: $9.00 Average 9-holes: $6.00 Poor 9-holes: $3.00

The base caddie fees will be charged to the member’s account. Gratuities may be charged to the member’s account or paid directly in cash to the caddie.

Caddies are not permitted to drive, nor to ride in or on the back of, golf carts at any time. Caddies may not enter into the driving range area to search for golf balls.

As in 2015, there is an option for a player wishing to provide a snack or drink for his/her caddie to buy a Gatorade and/or a hot dog (a “Caddie Snack”) at a discounted price at the half-way house (also the 10th tee if necessary, though we encourage the use of the half-way house for this purpose). These discounted items are only to be purchased for the caddies. Caddies have been instructed NOT to ask for these items. Players may purchase these snacks at their discretion, but should feel no obligation to do so.

CARTS WITH FORECADDIES

If players desire or are required to use a golf cart with a forecaddie, the following rates apply:

18 holes – Cart fee: $17.50 plus Forecaddie fee: $17.50 + Gratuity 9 holes – Cart fee: $10.00 plus Forecaddie fee: $10.00 + Gratuity

PACE OF PLAY

Inverness Club maintains a pace of play policy in order to ensure that all of our members and guests enjoy memorable experiences on our historic course.

With most tees situated close to greens and with few long walks, Inverness lends itself to a four-hour round.

The Golf Shop staff monitors the pace of play. If groups fall out of position, they will be asked to regain their position as quickly as possible. In extreme cases, groups may be required to skip holes in order to ensure a proper flow on the course for all golfers.

Players should permit faster groups (particularly those with fewer players) to play through on one of the 3 holes.

Players must also limit their time at the halfway house. Letting trailing groups play through at the turn usually does nothing to help pace of play, as the following groups will be inconvenienced by any long delay.

PROCEDURE DURING DANGEROUS WEATHER CONDITIONS

The safety of players and caddies is paramount when dangerous weather conditions are in the area. Upon alert that such conditions exist, the club’s siren system will issue a horn-siren-horn-siren blast. This indicates that play MUST BE SUSPENDED IMMEDIATELY, and players and caddies are to seek immediate shelter. Players who continue to play after the committee signals a suspension for a dangerous situation are subject to sanction.

Players should be aware of changing weather conditions. Players have the right to stop play if they think lightning or other perilous situations threaten them, even if the club’s siren system (which is not perfect) does not signal a suspension.

Play will be resumed only when the siren system sounds the all clear signal, an intermittent horn blast.

HANDICAP / SCORE POSTING

The USGA Handicap System allows golfers of all abilities to compete against one another on an equitable basis. This unique feature of golf can make the game more enjoyable for all.

Two basic premises underlie the USGA Handicap System, namely that: • Each player will try to make the best score at every hole in every round, regardless of where the round is played; and • The player will post every acceptable round for peer review.

In order to maintain an acceptable USGA Handicap, the following requirements must be met:

a. All scores for rounds played on courses during the active season for the region where that course is located must be posted. For courses in the Toledo area, the active season is April 1 through October 31. b. If you played golf over the winter in an area with a different active season (e.g., Florida, Arizona, California), you must post all of those scores. c. You may not maintain an Inverness Handicap and a separate “Florida” Handicap. If you have a different handicap number from another club or golf association, you must contact the Golf Shop to have these score records merged. d. All scores posted must be adjusted for Equitable Stroke Control (“ESC”). ESC places a cap on individual hole scores, based on a player’s course handicap, in order to make the Handicap Index more representative of the player’s potential ability. The ESC table is posted in the Golf Shop and in the locker rooms. e. A player who fails to complete a hole should record the most likely score that would been made had the player completed the hole, subject to the ESC limit. f. A player who completes 13 or more holes will have an acceptable 18-hole score for handicap purposes. The score for any hole not played should be recorded as par plus any handicap strokes that the player is entitled to receive on the unplayed holes. g. A player who completes 7 or more holes will have an acceptable 9-hole score for handicap purposes. The score for any hole not played should be recorded as par plus any handicap strokes that the player is entitled to receive on the unplayed holes. h. Scores must be posted in a timely manner, preferably immediately after the round. Players may post scores on the computers located in the Golf Shop and locker rooms, on GHIN.com, or on the GHIN app available for your smartphone. The Golf Shop can assist players if they have questions on posting scores on any of these platforms.

The Handicap Committee has the responsibility to ensure adherence to these requirements. The golf staff will provide the committee with a bi-weekly report detailing missing scores for their review. Any player failing to post scores accurately and timely may be subject to having his/her Handicap Index manually adjusted by the Committee, or in rare cases, having the Index suspended.

A valid Handicap Index is required for entry into most of the major golf competitions held at Inverness Club.
