he military has been a signifi cant part of the Thistory of Trenton and the Quinte West re- gion. No. 6 Company (Garrison Battery of Artil- lery) was formed at Trenton on July 20, 1866, and shortly afterwards folded into the 49th Regiment ‘Hastings Rifl es’ later that year. In 1920 the Rifl es amalgamated into the Hastings and Prince Ed- ward Regiment. In 1929 the Canadian government decided to build an airfi eld in Trenton, and with the opening of RCAF Station Trenton in 1931, the terms “Trenton” and “military” became synony- mous.
