This is someone who was born in 1915, amaz‐ ingly having lived through all the wonders and wars that have occurred since then. Think of the stories she can and does tell. Even more amazing it must be when she passes on stories that were told to her as a child. It's quite possible that some of these would have come from someone born before my Gregor ances‐ tors le Edinburgh around the 1850s. Of course, she herself is telling stories to young ones who quite possibly will carry them into the next century, the 2100s. No technology, no Facebook, no Instagram nor even wring is need‐ ed for this. We are our stories, those we've lived ourselves and those that are shared amongst our fore‐ bears, descendants and brethren. It is the wide sharing of stories that weaves us into a commu‐ nity of like-minded spirits. This is my view of CASSOC's strength and mission. To provide both a means for our Clans and Sociees to share their stories with all, and to provide new stories such as arise from our events like the upcoming Kilt Skate. I'm very grateful for being a part of this sharing as chairperson and editor. I see my role in CAS‐ SOC as being most of all a partner amongst friends, family and community. My hand is on the rudder but you, our members, bring the wind that fills the sails. I close with cheers and best wishes to you, your family and friends as you share with them your stories during this fesve season. I hope this finds you all well and excited to get back to a more normal lifestyle. We are excited as we will finally get to meet in person for our Annual Meeting and Gathering of the Clans in August and hope you all make an effort to come. We haven't seen you all in over a year and a half and we are looking forward to your smiling faces and a chance to talk with all of you. The Hunters’ Tryst Publisher Billy Hunter C.O. Editor Bill Hunter 1st Edition—Internet November 2006 Dear Clans folk It has been sometime since I wrote to you all and hope to find every Hunter in good heart. I know you will join me in thanking all our Clan members who have attended Games over the last summer, for their support of our Clan and their enthusiasm and time and effort. It is very much appreciated. Being a member of Clan Hunter should be a pleasure and interesting. Meeting up at Highland Games is a great way to re-affirm our interest in our Scottish heri- tage, meet those with similar interest and have a good time. Recently, the St. Andrew’s Society of Manchester have invited myself to be the First lady Chief Guest of the Society. They are a very prestigious St. Andrews Society, which started in 1876. It is a very great honour for myself as Clan Chief and for the Hunter Clan. The dinner will be held on St. Andrew’s day, which is exceptional too. Next year. 2007, is our International Gathering at Hunterston Castle. It is also the celebration of the Hunters having been at Hunterston for 900 years It is interesting to think back to the days when the first Hunter, Norman Venator arrived at Hunterston, which was then marsh and woodland and to look at the Hunters now, who live in many countries. I’m sure that they would be proud that we have grown in numbers and still value our ancestry.

We have been preparing for the upcoming festival season in which we will make many appearances. You may already know Carson C Smith, Trustee that the practice of setting up a Society booth is how we perpetuate our charter, [email protected] educating the public in “Gach ni Albanach” (all things Scottish). It also helps the public become aware that there is a Scottish Community and people of Scottish Andy Thompson, Trustee descent living in the Indianapolis and metro areas. This often surprises people when [email protected] they hear it. It is a special experience to point out to visitors that their last name is indeed Scottish, to show their name in the COSCA book and help them find their tartan. Many of our ancestors moved to America so long ago, our heritage has been Samuel Lawson,Trustee forgotten. I’m sure over time we’ve inspired more than one person to pursue their [email protected] roots and to trace their own family’s path across the sea.
