STAFF INFORMATION • Carmen and Ivana Corley earned the program’s highest ranking for a doubles team on March 30 when they checked in at No. 11 in the ITA release. Career Record: 135-62 (9th year) Record at OU: 58-35 (5th year) • On April 2, OU earned its first Bedlam win since 2014, shutting out Oklahoma State 4-0 in Norman. It was also the first time the Sooners had blanked OSU since a 9-0 win in 1998. SISTER SISTER • Sisters Carmen and Ivana Corley have established themselves as one of the premier doubles teams in the OKLAHOMA QUICK FACTS country, checking in at a career- and program-high No. 11 in the March 30 doubles rankings. Since Carmen joined the OU roster in January 2020, the sisters are 28-3. • The Sooners have solidified their doubles lineup of No. 11Carmen and Ivana Corley at the top spot, where they are 11-2 with a 5-0 mark against ranked opponents. Camila Romero and Martina Capurro are at No. 2 and own a 4-2 record. Kianah Motosono and Dana Guzman are 8-1 on the year at the No. 3 spot and lead the team with a 4-1 record against Big 12 opponents.

• All three of OU’s doubles teams take a four-match winning streak into Friday’s match.

DOMINANT DANA

• Freshman Dana Guzman (Arequipa, Peru) has made a quick impact since her arrival in January and entered the ITA singles rankings at No. 80 on March 30.

• Guzman leads the team in singles wins at 14-2 on the year and has worked her way up the lineup from No. 4 to No. 2, where she has played her last eight matches and is 9-1 with two wins over ranked opponents.

• 12 of Guzman’s 14 wins have come in straight sets.

• Guzman also leads the team in doubles wins at 12-3 overall and is 8-1 with Kianah Motosono.

• During her junior career, Guzman was raked as high as No. 58 in the ITF junior rankings and owns a high UTR score of 11.44. She represented Peru at the 2020 Pan American Games and was part of the Peruvian team that defeated Canada.

MATCH 17: OKLAHOMA VS. IOWA STATE VAMOS TEAM PERU ORACLE ITA DIVISION I • Kianah “Ki” Motosono and Dana Guzman, known to the team as “Team Peru” because of their shared heritage, have been a force at No. 3 doubles. The duo is 8-1 on the year and has won its last four matches consecutively. WOMEN’S TENNIS TEAM RANKINGS (APRIL 7, 2021 RELEASE) • As a pair, they have never given up more than three games and have three shutouts on the year.

• Team Peru has clinched four doubles points for the Sooners this year, with all of those matches coming in the last 1 North five contests. Romero came to OU in the fall of 2017 and helped recruit Capurro, who joined the roster in January 21 Vanderbilt 2018. The duo also reached the final of a $15k tournament in Guayaquil, Ecuador (Romero’s hometown) in August of 22 Miami 2018. 23 Kentucky • Motosono grew up in Miami, but her parents are from Lima, Peru, and she spent much of her junior career playing in 24 South Carolina South America, including playing under the Peruvian flag for a time. She knew Romero prior to OU and the two once 25 Oklahoma played each other at a tournament.

• During the COVID-19 pandemic, Guzman stayed with Romero in Ecuador so the two could train together. ^ indicates 2021 opponent

• Cobra spent a few years working for a recruiting agency that helped South American players earn scholarships in the US.

• OU alum Lily Miyazaki (2014-18) has made waves on the pro circuit over the last few weeks, capturing her third and fourth professional singles titles in back-to- back weeks in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

• Miyazaki and her doubles partner also reached back-to-back doubles finals in Sharm El Sheikh, taking the title on March 28.

• Miyazaki also recently earned career-high singles rankings, clocking in at 110 in the ITF rankings on March 8 and 336 in the WTA release on March 22.

INCOMING!

• The Sooners have signed Tulsa native Emma Staker for August 2021. Staker is a Blue Chip (top 25) recruit according to Tennisrecruiting.net. She is the No. 24 player nationally in her signing class as well as the No. 1 player in the state of Oklahoma.

• Staker was ranked as high as No. 776 in the ITF junior singles rankings and holds a high universal tennis rating of 10.74. She also achieved a career-high ranking of No. 5 in the nation and No. 1 in the United States Tennis Association’s (USTA) Missouri Valley district.

• Additionally, she was the 2020 USTA Missouri Valley Junior High Performance Player of the Year as well as the Oklahoma Player of the Year after an undefeated campaign. Staker captured the 18s doubles title at the 2019 USTA National Doubles Championship, as well as taking bronze at Winter Nationals the same year.

QUICK HITS

• Kianah Motosono was one of 14 Oklahoma student-athletes to receive the 2021 Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award, the Big 12 Conference’s highest academic distinction. Honorees, who can only be recognized once, should have 100 hours of earned credit with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.80 at the time of the nomination.

• Just three OU players were able to return to campus in August due to COVID-19 travel restrictions – Americans Carmen and Ivana Corley and Kianah Motosono. The remaining players stayed in home and did school remotely around the globe. The team met regularly over Zoom during that time and most of the Sooners were able to practice on their own, with a few exceptions due to restrictions in their areas.
