Not long after this series was over, fellow selector and Chairperson Meredith Norton was taken very ill and was unable to take part for the rest of the season. I’m sure you’ll all stand with me when I send her all our best wishes and good thoughts.

In February the team headed off to Salisbury BC in South Australia where again under a dome, the results were a clean-sweep for Victoria again. A great job by all.

In March on home-soil at Whittlesea BC, with both the Under 25’s and the Senior State Team contesting a series against New South Wales, sadly, neither of these sides could come away with a series win against extremely strong opposition, but congratulations to all those selected.

The National Sides Championships were contested in May in Darwin, where we were greeted with very hot and humid conditions as soon as we got off the plane. The girls didn’t worry about the weather and just got on with the job, winning their first four matches but then being beaten by Queensland to realistically cost them any chance of a Gold Medal.

The side kept going and to their credit went on to bring home a Silver Medal which is a great achievement in itself and to come second only to the powerhouse New South Wales is not a disgrace. A special compliment to the Victorian Men for bringing home the Alley Shield, well done.
