Date: 13 December 2019 PARLIAMENT OF INDIA RAJYA SABHA SECRETARIAT PRESS NOTE VICE-PRESIDENT, PRIME MINISTER AND OTHER DIGNITARIES PAY TRIBUTE TO THE MARTYRS OF PARLIAMENT ATTACK 18th ANNIVERSARY OF TERRORIST ATTACK ON PARLIAMENT OBSERVED TODAY The Vice-President of India and Chairman, Rajya Sabha, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu; Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi; Lok Sabha Speaker, Shri Om Birla and Shri Harivansh, Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha led the nation today in paying tributes to the martyrs who laid down their lives while defending the Parliament from the terrorist attack on 13 December 2001. The family members of the martyrs were present on the occasion. Minister of Home Affairs, Shri Amit Shah; Shri Thaawar Chand Gehlot Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment and Leader of the House Rajya Sabha; former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh; Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, Leader of the Opposition, Rajya Sabha, Smt. Sonia Gandhi and Shri Rahul Gandhi both Members of Lok Sabha also paid floral tributes. Among others who paid tributes were several Union Ministers and a large number of Members of Parliament. The Secretary-General, Rajya Sabha, Shri Desh Deepak Verma and Secretary-General, Lok Sabha, Shrimati Snehlata Shrivastava also paid tributes. A blood donation camp was organized at Parliament House on the occasion by the Indian Red Cross Society, in which Members of Parliament and officers and staff of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha Secretariats donated blood. It was on this day in the year 2001, that nine persons namely, Shri Jagdish Prasad Yadav and Shri Matbar Singh Negi, both Security Assistants of Rajya Sabha Secretariat; Smt. Kamlesh Kumari, Constable, CRPF; Shri Nanak Chand and Shri Rampal, Assistant Sub-Inspectors, Delhi Police; Shri Om Prakash, Shri Bijender Singh and Shri Ghanshyam, Head Constables, Delhi Police; and Shri Deshraj, Gardener, CPWD, had sacrificed their lives while defending the Parliament against the terrorist attack. .
