  • First Break Surfer Mercury Rising Generation Why a Room for the Past
First Break Mercury A Room for Generation Surfer Rising the Past Why P. 06 P. 16 P. 48 P. 68 Original Mercury cover, November 1968 MERCURY Dear Members, This issue of Mercury focuses on our different generations and on the connections we feel through the continuum of LAAC’s past, present, and future. From our past, we draw inspiration. The story of Duke Kahanamoku celebrates a life of extraordinary athletic achievement played out against a backdrop of beautiful beaches during a time of remarkable historical transition. The story of Frank Garbutt follows an innovator’s various ventures as they lead him to a lasting legacy in the film industry. These people and many others have left indelible marks on our Club and on our lives. The History Room houses countless artifacts from LAAC’s past, providing tangible representations of our intricate ties to past generations. In the present, we find ourselves and our community. We strive to build connections. We have fun, and we face challenges. We push ourselves to improve. We revel in the “now-ness” of life by throwing dance parties, enjoying passionately prepared meals, and achieving success as part of a team, a club, a community. Whether it’s through a group exercise class, a women’s club, or a champion basketball team, LAAC helps us seize the day. We look to the future with hope and wonder. We build friendships, networks, and organizations that not only fortify ourselves, but also lay foundations for future generations. As we spoke with members of all ages about the Club’s effects on their lives, a prominent and common theme was that of camaraderie.

PRESS RESOURCES Our Mission Punch Gunk is an award-winning performance therapeutics company that develops innovative approaches to pain relief and workout recovery. At Punch Gunk we believe life should not be limited by life's aches and pains. Our goal is to synthesize the best of science and nature to develop products that are naturally focused and effective. Engage With Us www.PunchGunk.com Press contact Meg Treat, APR [email protected] 714-485-6697 The PUnch GUNK STORY In 2015, Cameron and Nadene McIntyre found out that being an athlete or simply an active fitness forward adult came with plenty of aches, pains, soreness, and strains. Suffering from the impact of their athletic endeavors, Cameron and Nadene tried the popular muscle rubs, only to find they had limited efficacy and were unpleasant to use. They went out in search of a special or secret remedy that only the top boxers and MMA fighters might know about. It turns out that even athletes facing the toughest pain had no choice but to turn to those old-fashioned products with an overpowering smell, a greasy residue, and unpleasant extremes in sensations – ones that don’t actually penetrate your skin effectively to treat the pain. So, rather than turn to that icky goop, they sought out to create something new, something better. In 2015, they began extensive research, product development and testing in collaboration with notable chemist Fred Khoury at Above Rinaldi Labs. In 2017, the Gunk made its debut. Since then, the world's smallest over-the-counter pharmaceutical company continues to redefine pain relief and set itself apart.

First Edition - September-October 2019 U14 Football LSS 1-2 Ashlawn: After a tense first 15 minutes, with no clear cut chances going either way, Jake Thornton was brought down just inside the box. With the referee awarding a penalty almost instantly, Uzair Mirza stepped up and buried it into the bottom left hand corner, putting Sheriff 1-0 up. However, after just 5 minutes, an error by the defence allowed the Ashlawn striker to square it across the box for a simple tap-in, making it 1-1. The first half was concluded by a series of brilliant saves by Marcus Bald. Not a lot of action happened in the second half. Although there was a period when some high-quality saves occurred from each side. The last ten minutes were tense, but the winner was finally scored with less than 2 minutes to go, from an Ashlawn cross which resulted in our centre back being beaten in the air, the ball just escaping Marcus’ reach. A good game of football, resulting in a 2-1 win for the visitors.
