First Edition - September-October 2019 U14 Football LSS 1-2 Ashlawn: After a tense first 15 minutes, with no clear cut chances going either way, Jake Thornton was brought down just inside the box. With the referee awarding a penalty almost instantly, Uzair Mirza stepped up and buried it into the bottom left hand corner, putting Sheriff 1-0 up. However, after just 5 minutes, an error by the defence allowed the Ashlawn striker to square it across the box for a simple tap-in, making it 1-1. The first half was concluded by a series of brilliant saves by Marcus Bald. Not a lot of action happened in the second half. Although there was a period when some high-quality saves occurred from each side. The last ten minutes were tense, but the winner was finally scored with less than 2 minutes to go, from an Ashlawn cross which resulted in our centre back being beaten in the air, the ball just escaping Marcus’ reach. He then did it again by ripping the ball and running to the exact same corner that the other two tries were scored in. Leicester .vs. Bournemouth:Leicester City proved too clinical for Bournemouth as Brendan Rodgers' side cruised to a 3-1 win at the King Power Stadium. The game kicked off in frenetic fashion with both sides taking turns to counter, but Leicester struck first after Ben Chilwell hit a long ball behind Bournemouth's defence, with Jamie Vardy latching onto it to lob Aaron Ramsdale. Bournemouth piled forward at the restart and Ryan Fraser picked out Callum Wilson with the England international hitting a delicious chip over Kasper Schmeichel's outstretched leg to level the scores. But the Foxes continued to cause all manner of problems for Eddie Howe's defence, with Youri Tielemans tapping his side ahead before the interval and Vardy netting his second of the game midway through the second half. The game could have panned out differently if Tieleman’s had received a red card for a wild challenge after the break, which appeared to buckle Callum Wilson's ankle - but VAR adjudged 'no red card' after several replays. Bournemouth stopper Ramsdale was almost caught out by Vardy's relentless press, intercepting the young 'keeper's distribution on two occasions. Indeed, it was Vardy who also harassed Steve Cook before threading a pass across the six-yard box for Tielemans to tap the Foxes ahead, before the Belgian repaid the assist to seal the win midway through the second half.
