September-October 2019 First Edition - September-October 2019 U14 Football LSS 1-2 Ashlawn: After a tense first 15 minutes, with no clear cut chances going either way, Jake Thornton was brought down just inside the box. With the referee awarding a penalty almost instantly, Uzair Mirza stepped up and buried it into the bottom left hand corner, putting Sheriff 1-0 up. However, after just 5 minutes, an error by the defence allowed the Ashlawn striker to square it across the box for a simple tap-in, making it 1-1. The first half was concluded by a series of brilliant saves by Marcus Bald. Not a lot of action happened in the second half. Although there was a period when some high-quality saves occurred from each side. The last ten minutes were tense, but the winner was finally scored with less than 2 minutes to go, from an Ashlawn cross which resulted in our centre back being beaten in the air, the ball just escaping Marcus’ reach. A good game of football, resulting in a 2-1 win for the visitors. MOTM: Marcus Bald By Zach Bishop and Daniel Pinks Yr8 LSS U14 Football LSS 5-1 William Parker LSS recovered from an early scare in this game to run out comfortable winners in the end. Well done all. MotM Joe Moore U14 Football vs Lynwood High(School from Australia) Lynwood High travelled from Perth, Western Australia to face us on 8th October. It was an even game from the start, with some brilliant chances for each side, but Lynwood broke the deadlock just before the half-time whistle, with the ball being turned in from a corner. We were on top at the start of the 2nd half, with Nathaniel Knight-Robinson tapping in. A tense 20 minutes ensued, but Lynwood burst through and 2 finished into the top left with the last kick of the game. 2-1. MOTM: Jasper Blount. Report by Zach Bishop and Daniel Pinks. Teams of 10 (max 3 per house) battled it out with 3 games against each other. Results will follow but well done to all that participated. 4 U12 Rugby Avon Valley 22-21 LSS LSS came together for their first match against Avon Valley. Playing 15-a-side to give as many of the boys game time as possible the team did excellently against a strong and physical opposition with plenty of attacking threat. Initially Sheriff struggled in and around the break downs but soon got to grips them, gradually becoming more competitive as the game went on. LSS improved greatly once our running was straighter as this created space out wide for Gower and the impressive MotM Umar Sharif. A good work out and plenty to learn from the game, well done all. U12 Rugby Ashlawn 10-15 LSS In the first half nothing happened; they almost scored but our defence managed to fend them off. Early in the second half they scored a try but Ollie Smith ran through them and managed to score the equaliser. Later on, John did the same to make it 2-1. He then did it again by ripping the ball and running to the exact same corner that the other two tries were scored in. Unfortunately they scored twice but the second one was controversial, as they had 14 people on the pitch instead of 12, and there was a clear knock on but the ref missed it.. Mr Orford-our rugby coach-claimed it as a 3-2 victory with John Musukuma as man of the matchwith 2 tries for him and a very good match. John Musukuma (MotM) By Gabriel Barlow and John Musukuma U13 Rugby Ashlawn 10-70 LSS Sheriff exerted their dominance over near neighbours Ashlawn with an excellent display. Mrs Orford who oversaw the fixture made a point to highlight how impressed she was with the boys attitude and application. They represented themselves and the school superbly and played some great Rugby! Well done. 5 U13 Rugby Harris 0-60 LSS LSS played their second game away at Harris and from the off overwhelmed their opposition with powerful running and explosive tackling. Well done on another convincing display! 6 In Other News! A snapshot from around the globe... West Brom vs QPR:The Baggies came to life after shading a forgettable first half, with QPR keeper Lumley atoning for Ferguson's opener by thwarting Charlie Austin, Grady Diangana and Kyle Edwards as the visitors asserted their dominance. Ferguson, 18, was given time to stride forward and beat Joe Lumley with a speculative 30-yard shot for his first senior goal, with Matheus Pereira's free-kick putting the game beyond st the hosts, who had Yoann Barbet sent off for bringing down Hal Robson-Kanu. This game put West Brom 1 and they would now follow on to th st face Leeds in 4 on the 1 of October. This win was deserved for the baggies as they had 15 shots with a total of 7 on target while their opponents only had 5 shots and none of them were on target. Leicester .vs. Bournemouth:Leicester City proved too clinical for Bournemouth as Brendan Rodgers' side cruised to a 3-1 win at the King Power Stadium. The game kicked off in frenetic fashion with both sides taking turns to counter, but Leicester struck first after Ben Chilwell hit a long ball behind Bournemouth's defence, with Jamie Vardy latching onto it to lob Aaron Ramsdale. Bournemouth piled forward at the restart and Ryan Fraser picked out Callum Wilson with the England international hitting a delicious chip over Kasper Schmeichel's outstretched leg to level the scores. But the Foxes continued to cause all manner of problems for Eddie Howe's defence, with Youri Tielemans tapping his side ahead before the interval and Vardy netting his second of the game midway through the second half. The game could have panned out differently if Tieleman’s had received a red card for a wild challenge after the break, which appeared to buckle Callum Wilson's ankle - but VAR adjudged 'no red card' after several replays. Bournemouth stopper Ramsdale was almost caught out by Vardy's relentless press, intercepting the young 'keeper's distribution on two occasions. Indeed, it was Vardy who also harassed Steve Cook before threading a pass across the six-yard box for Tielemans to tap the Foxes ahead, before the Belgian repaid the assist to seal the win midway through the second half. Howe handed Harry Wilson a start after scoring his second successive stunner from range against Manchester.
