This is exciting for all of you as it means there will eventually be more great golf courses for you to access at discounted rates throughout the nation. Click here to read the entire press release

2021… here we go!

Let’s start this year of with some fun collaboration. Back in September we did a blind whiskey tasting at the Men’s Pheasant with Sonoma Distilling Co. to pick a private label single barrel whiskey. The winner was a straight bourbon whiskey. Well bottles are in! There are a limited number of these bottles so get them while supplies last. You can purchase in the Golf Shop or in the restaurant at $35 plus tax per bottle. Please click on the flyer on the next page to view the PDF.

The EMCC Rewards program is up and running. Details were sent out last week but if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

The county is back in the purple tier for COVID-19 however that comes with restrictions. Dining at the Club must be at on the patio again and only members of your household can sit with you. Because of these restrictions the Board elected to send out a survey to all members. If you have not already filled out the survey, please click here. The survey will be active until 12PM on Sunday. Those surveys will be tallied early next week and more information about our restaurant opening will come soon after. Keep a lookout for that email. We are eager!

Thank you again to everyone that is ordering To-Go. Every order keeps our staff working through the slow times! ISSUE NO. 1 | JANUARY 2021 ISSUE NO. 1 | JANUARY 2021 MEMBERSHIP HAPPENINGS Karyn Yarris | Membership and Marketing Director

Happy New Year! Who can believe it is 2021? After all the craziness of 2020 I am optimistic that 2021 will be a great year for all of us. December turned out to be a record month in terms of new members signed up due in large part to a combination of member referrals and our Winter Promotion. I am thrilled to say that in the months of December and January we signed up over 15 new Proprietary members! Rusty and I went back and checked, we believe this is a record so thank you! We are excited to welcome so many new members to the Club. Just a reminder, each time you refer a new member that joins you get 10% of the initiation fee in the form of Elmo Bucks! Now speaking of all those new members please take a moment to get to know just a few of our newest members:

Paul and Marna Ghiglieri have lived in Davis for the last 15 years. They have two daughters Gina (25) and Lisa (23) who live and work in the Bay Area. Paul is a Plant Manager at Farmers Rice Cooperative in Woodland. Marna is an Assistant Professor of Occupational Therapy at University of the Pacific's Health Science campus in Sacramento. Paul and Marna enjoy exercising, sampling local craft beers and golfing (of course!).

The Swift's, Andy, Mandi, Hayden (9), Branson (5), & Paxton (2), moved to Davis in 2011 and currently live in Wildhorse. Andy is originally from Wisconsin and works for The Hartford. Mandi is from Sacramento and works for Elsevier. The kids are split between Montessori Country Day and St. James School. In addition to golfing, their family loves to spend time at the beach, any/all water sports, and snow skiing. ISSUE NO. 1 | JANUARY 2021

Winter is here, or is it? We couldn’t ask for better weather in January and with the great weather, it is keeping members on the golf course which is great to see. With all of the play every day and the golf course continuing to be busy until the late afternoon, we want to make sure everyone is doing their part to play their round at our Time of 4 hours and 10 minutes and a big part of that is playing Ready Golf. Please continue to keep an eye on your scorecard which has the hole by hole pace of play on it and always be aware of the group in front of you. It’s a common misconception that if no one is pushing your group, you are okay but the most important factor in keeping up with pace is to always keep up with the group in front of you. There is not as much concern with the group behind you but if they are pushing you, there is a chance you are behind pace. The Golf Shop will continue to make Player Assistant runs throughout the day and if you are behind pace, we will mention it to you and to please speed up to get back on pace. If you are approached a second time and there is a large enough gap in front of you, we will be inclined to ask you to pick up and proceed directly to the next hole. It’s not fun being out on the course for a 5 hour round of golf and pace has been great considering how busy El Macero has been. We kindly ask everyone to do their part and play to our Time Par of 4 hours and 10 minutes and play Ready Golf. We also ask that everyone is able to continue to use carts through the winter and to allow this, we need all members to continue to stay in the rough at all times with your carts.

We are also excited to start fully utilizing the capabilities of our Golf Genius Tournament Software with the WGG. We have started to do online signups for the WGG’s weekly game and will also implement Live Scoring and reduce the amount of scorecards that are printed and ultimately thrown away and wasted. We will also continue to do this for most events at El Macero going forward and eliminate printed scorecards which helps slow the spread of Covid. It will be more streamlined and less paperwork to keep track of, scoring and results can now be done instantaneously.

We are excited for what 2021 has in store and it’s time to start looking at the 2021 At A Glance because events are starting up next month. The first event of the new year will be the NCGA Zone Qualifier which is open to both men and women. Signups will start online next week so keep an eye out for that. ISSUE NO. 1 | JANUARY 2021 EVERYTHING GOLF Continued

Very important for everyone to do first thing is to download the Golf Genius App on your smart phone or tablet. The icon in the App Store is orange with a globe sitting on a tee. Once you download the App, if you’ve never registered with Golf Genius, you will create a username and password. If you have a smart phone or tablet, you will be able to do live scoring anytime you are playing in an event. When signups open online for each event, everyone will get emailed a link to be able to login in and sign up. You will also be able to login and sign up from that link on your laptop or desktop computer.

There will be questions and either Chad or Andy will be able to answer any questions or concerns you have. Happy New Year and there is excitement for 2021! ISSUE NO. 1 | JANUARY 2021 PLAYER DEVELOPMENT Kevin Estrella | Director of Player Development

The Niners ladies golf group at El Macero play a round of 9 or 18 holes every Tuesday morning. We are members of the Women's Nine Hole Golf Association (WNHGA) and participate at other Northern California private country clubs' Invitationals and Open Day events. We also join in Team Play and compete with other country clubs. This year, due to Covid-19 many of the away events have been cancelled, but we continue to enjoy golf at El Macero. If you would like information on joining the Niners group at El Macero, please contact our Membership Chair Jeanne Egan at (530) 219-4623.

On Tuesday, January 12, 2021 our Niners group held an all new Game Day Event 9ers Go For The Green. Each Tee Time Team was a “Green Team” with members wearing Green to celebrate the event. Each team counted the lowest 2 team members’ putts for each hole with each member contributing at least 2 putts for the 9-hole round. The teams with the lowest 2 person putts for the 9-hole round were declared the winners. Congratulations go to: Trudy De Felice, Theresa Mariani, & Laura DeOrio with 29 putts (with Laura getting a zero putt on hole #5) Wendy Amundsen, Kathy Barrientes, & Mayet Reina with 29 putts

The mantra for the game was “Drive for Show, Putt for Dough.” This inspired a new prize for the winners called 9er Dough. Of course, 9er Dough is only good for 9er members, but will soon quickly become popular as the 9er Dough designs are used on the course when needed for “1 free foot wedge, 1 free toss, or 1 free mulligan” and are activated by handing the dough to a fellow 9er when needed on the course.

9ers Go For The Green was super fun and made many realize we need to spend more time practicing on the putting green! Thank you Kim Beck for leading this event and for all of the extra entertainment that only Niners know how to do!

Congratulations to our Niners 2020 Most Improved Golfer, Natalie Dettling!!! Before the start of the first group at our 9ers Go For The Green event with Kim Beck, Cathy Raycraft presented Natalie with a Golfing Pin celebrating her achievement. 2020 WGG Captain Carol Youmans passed the gavel to 2021 WGG Captain Dorothy Yerxa. We thank outgoing WGG Captain Carol Youmans for her leadership and humor meeting many unexpected challenges with resilience throughout 2020.

The Women’s Golf Group (WGG), 18 hole Thursday players begin our regular Thursday morning golf play days on Thursday, January 21. We always welcome new members to WGG.

In addition to weekly scheduled Thursday golf play, we host a variety of fun & competitive tournaments throughout the year. WGG is an excellent opportunity to expand your golf game and enjoy the lively camaraderie.

For any questions on joining the WGG, please contact Dinnie Holloway, our WGG New Member chair. ISSUE NO. 1 | JANUARY 2021 AGRONOMY Joe Cuneo | Superintendent

The winter time has finally allowed us to catch up on detail work. We’ve just completed edging bunkers, moving sand around and a training with all staff members to make sure they are consistent for the upcoming season. Irrigation improvements have continued with the addition of some irrigation heads, relocation of others, and a bunch of adjustments to make sure our coverage is as consistent as possible next season. We’ve also allocated labor to cleaning and trimming some of the overgrowth in the parking lot.

The coming months will be busy with removal of a few remaining dead trees, stump grinding, and trimming of trees on holes 6 ,8, 15, 16, 17. Other efforts will be on continuing to improve irrigation coverage, completion of connecting the EM3 lake fill, and a removal and inspection of our current well on #8.

We’ve also been extremely lucky to add a new assistant superintendent to our crew. Logan Bloom has joined us from Cordevalle Golf Club in San Martin. He has 5 years experience in the industry and will bring a new perspective to us on quality and efficiency of operation. We look forward to seeing the improvements over the next few months and are very excited to have him on the team. ISSUE NO. 1 | JANUARY 2021 ON THE COURTS with Sara Jackson
