Town of Moorefield Public Notification The USDA- Rural Development, Rural Utilities Service has received an application for financial assis tance from the Town of Moorefield. The proposed project is for improvements to the Town’s water treatment and distribution system, and for a new water treatment plant. This plant consists of membrane filtration, pretreatment, a new clearwell, ultraviolet disinfection, a new 1.5 million gallon water storage tank, and the replacement of existing 4” and 6” cast iron lines with new 12” pipe. There are two raw water intake s currently on the South Fork River and one on the South Branch Potomac River. The one on the South Fork will b e replaced in the same vicinity while the intake structure on the South Branch Potomac River is going to be rehabilitated. The water source will remain the same.

As required by the National Environmental Policy Act, the Rural Utilities Service has assessed the p otential environmental effects of the proposed project and has determined that the proposal will not have a significant effect on human environment and for which an Environmental Impact Study will not be prepared. This determination is based on the extensive review process performed by USDA – Rural Development. This review included various federal and state agencies’ concurrences.
