Bradford Cha Rambling and Social Club June-September 2021 BRADFORD CHA RAMBLING AND SOCIAL CLUB JUNE-SEPTEMBER 2021 Here we have the new programme with details of Saturday walks, Sunday coach rambles, and Wednesday evening socials up to the end of September. We hope you are all well and rarin’ to go! A note from the Saturday Secretary Hi All I hope you are all well and looking forward to resuming normal club activities – as normal as we can make them at this time. I have put together a three month Saturday syllabus, it was not easy as there were fewer leaders offering walks than is usual, but for those that have, some have offered more than one walk, so eventually I managed to fill all the dates – thanks leaders. As public transport timetables are subject to change, please check that the buses/trains/times stated in the syllabus are still correct nearer to the walk date. If anybody notices any discrepancies please let me know and I will put them on the WhatsApp group and the Facebook page. The WhatsApp group currently has 77 members and has been so useful this past year as a communication tool, thank you all for sticking with it. If all goes to plan with Boris’s roadmap, there should be no restrictions on the size of the groups for Saturday walks, and no need to pre-book, just turn up, with just one exception – the first walk in the syllabus which has been included in the Saltaire Festival. This walk is also being advertised on our Meetup page and must be prebooked with the leader, Malcolm Walters, as there is a limit on numbers for this walk. It is not possible to organise a Saturday coach this year but I will be looking at Christmas dinner venues shortly so that may be a possibility. See you on the I.O.W. holiday if you’re going Best Wishes Gill Sunday Coaches I’ve been able to resurrect yet again some walks we’d previously planned, so thanks to the leaders, as ever. You’ll see booking slips again. The booking system will be retained as before, except each coach walk will have a two-week booking slot. If we do this, it means that more members have a chance of a place. If we do not get enough bookings it gives us time to cancel the coach without incurring a fee. As from the new syllabus, 36 pre-booked people can go on each trip. At £15 for each, we should then approximately break even. We expect booking to continue until at least September, as we cannot be sure what will happen. Even if we can have a full coach there might not be a big return to it by members, so booking would be a precaution, and then we could also go back onto Meetup if we had room. Ron has kindly agreed to deal with bookings until September. After that, with any luck, we’ll be back to ‘turn up and go’ on Sundays, and will be able to go back to our full range of destinations instead of having to pick from the cheapest! Jackie David Tupling R.I.P. As most of you will be aware following the surprise death of our colleague and friend David, his family organised a Direct Funeral. As a result of Covid our members were not able to pay their last respects to David. Since then I have been in contact with his sister Barbara to try to organize an event to scatter David`s ashes for family and club members. We had hoped to have a club walk involving scattering his ashes in one of his favourite areas. Covid-19 has made this very difficult. David`s family have now informed me they have booked on June 25th at East Riddlesden Hall to scatter David’s ashes where he was a volunteer, followed by the Airedale Heifer for a drink & a bite. Final times have yet to be confirmed and places may be limited so the family would like an indication of the number of members wishing to attend. This is probably for the catering but please contact me either by email or phone ASAP if you wish to attend either just the Hall or both the Hall & pub. • Historical Journey Along the River Tees and Its Tributaries
Historical Journey along the River Tees and its Tributaries Synopsis The document describes a virtual journey along the River Tees beginning at its source; the perspective is as much historical as descriptive of the current scene. Where significant tributaries join the river, they also are tracked back to their start-points. Particular attention is paid to bridges and watermills because of their intimate associations with the rivers, but nearby buildings, both religious and secular are also given attention. Some people have been specially important to developments associated with the river, and brief biographical notes are provided for them. Finally, I would stress that this is very much a personal account dealing with facets of interest to me during the 30 years or so that I spent living and working near the River Tees. Document Navigation I do not provide either a contents list, or an index, but to aid navigation through the document I give here page numbers, on which some places appear first in the text.
