Sheri Thome Regional Managing Partner Las Vegas, Wilson Elser Sheri Thome is the regional managing partner of the Las Vegas office and serves on the firm’s Executive Committee. As a firm leader, she strongly supports the Women Attorneys Valued & Empowered (WAVE) initiative and is proud to be a sponsor of today’s event. Sheri focuses her legal practice in the areas of employment defense, pro- fessional liability defense, insurance coverage advice and insurance litigation. Sheri also handles sophisticated commercial cases, even prevailing in a case before the Ninth Circuit that affirmed the dismissal of a breach of contract/ fraud case against a large financial services company. Sheri spent the early years of her career as a commercial litigator in , handling transportation, business and intellectual property matters for large corporations and financial institutions. She has litigated in both federal and state courts in Nevada and California, and has published opinions in Nevada, California and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Sheri’s ability to surface the critical issues in a case enables her to move quickly and capably, resulting in the disposition of many matters with early motion practice. Sheri’s business acumen was honed though her previous work in commercial litigation at an international firm. Karen L. Bashor Of Counsel and Las Vegas WAVE Liason, Wilson Elser Karen Bashor serves on the national WAVE committee and helps organize national programs, including the firm’s mentorship program. Her legal experience includes significant litigation and trial experience with complex litigation, large transportation claims and catastrophic injury defense. She has successfully handled civil and criminal jury trials in state and federal courts in Nevada and New Jersey. Prior to joining Wilson Elser, Karen was the first woman partner and minority partner at a prominent Las Vegas law firm where she routinely handled large cases involving multimillion-dollar claims, including punitive damages, fraud and wrongful death. She has vigorously defended small and large companies and individuals across the nation. Karen worked with the Center for Social Justice in law school and is a former public defender. Karen currently serves on the Board for the Southern Nevada Association of Women Attorneys (SNAWA). In the October 2017 issue of Nevada Lawyer, Karen’s article ,“Diversity Makes a Difference in this Profession,” highlights the issues she’s passionate about surrounding diversity and the power of a woman’s voice in the legal profession. Karen conceived and led the organization of today’s event to celebrate the successes women in the workplace have made thus far, to raise awareness of the progress yet to come, and to inspire people to help one another and give back to the community. Shelley Berkley Chief Executive Officer and Senior Provost Touro Western Division Shelley Berkley is the administrative and academic head of the Nevada and northern California campuses of Touro University. Prior to joining Touro in 2014, she served the State of Nevada in the U.S. House of Representatives for seven terms. Ms. Berkley also served in the Nevada State Legislature and was appointed and twice elected to the Nevada State Board of Regents, where she was awarded the Distinguished Nevadan Award. Prior to serving in Congress, Ms. Berkley was an attorney for the Nevada State Commerce Department, in-house counsel for Southwest Gas Corporation, and Vice President for Government and Legal Affairs for the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas. She currently serves on numerous local and national boards, including The Anti-Defamation League, National Osteoporosis Foundation, The Israel Project, Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance, Henderson Chamber of Commerce and The American Lung Association. Ms. Berkley was recently honored by the Clark County School District with the naming of the Shelley Berkley Elementary School.

Aliah Berman Director, Talent Diversity & Inclusion for Aurora Health Care Aliah Berman leads Aurora Health Care’s efforts to recruit, develop and retain diverse talent across the company through educational resources, training programs, projects and interventions that promote diverse recruiting efforts, employee development and leadership engagement. She builds and reshapes Aurora’s recruitment strategy and manages outreach and relationships with educational institutions and organizations to assist in accomplishing Aurora’s workforce diversity and inclusion objectives.

In her role, Ms. Berman works to ensure focus and integration between Aurora’s system-wide workforce diversity and inclusion objectives and other strategic plan priorities such as outreach/ engagement, patient experience and cross-cultural services.

Ms. Berman has a passion for and successful track record of driving growth and positive change in teams and organizations throughout her career. As a strategic leader and former lawyer/ litigator, Ms. Berman is a strong communicator, facilitator and relationship manager. She has a strong commitment to leveraging diversity as an advantage at Aurora Health Care and ensuring that its workforce reflects the communities of patients it serves. Brenda Bradbury Board Member for Southern Nevada Dress for Success and Vice President of Employee Relations/Operations, MGM Resorts International Brenda Bradbury leads the strategic development, implementation and management of operational programs, policies and services to promote a high level of consistency and organizational effectiveness in Employee and Labor Relations matters. Since joining MGM Resorts in 1998, she has been promoted through the ranks to leadership positions, including Employee Relations Manager at NYNY, Executive Director of Human Resources for Corporate Entities, Director of Human Resources at MGM Grand Las Vegas and Vice President of Human Resources at Excalibur. Ms. Bradbury is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College.

Elissa F. Cadish Eighth Judicial District Court Judge for Department 6 Elissa F. Cadish was in private practice focused on commercial litigation and employment law until July 2007, when she was appointed by Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons to the position of District Judge in Department 6, where she presently serves. She was president of the Southern Nevada Association of Women Attorneys from 2004 to 2006, and remains an active member in that organization. Judge Cadish is a Master in the Howard D. McKibben Inn of Court, an active member of the local chapter of the Federal Bar Association, and a member of the American Bar Association and the Clark County Bar Association. In 2006, Judge Cadish was appointed as a Lawyer Representative to the District Court, acting as liaison between the bench and bar, assisting in planning the District Court Conference and attending the Ninth Circuit Judicial Confer- ence on behalf the district. Over the years, she has taught at numerous seminars regarding employment law topics and participated in presentations regarding various litigation topics for the Inn of Court. Barbara Cegavske Nevada Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske, with 35 years of combined public service and small business experience, entered public service in 1996 when she was elected to the and served three consecutive terms. In 2002, she ran for and successfully won a state Senate seat for Clark County District 8, serving three full terms before assuming the role of Secretary of State. During her time in the Nevada Legislature, Secretary Cegavske assumed a series of leadership roles and chaired numerous committees while serving nine regular sessions and 13 special sessions. Secretary Cegavske serves on the board of the National Center for Learning and Civil Engagement (NCLCE) and has become a Fellow with the Hunt Keane Leadership program. She supported and participated in the inaugural year of Inspire U.S. in Nevada, which encourages teens to channel their leadership skills and community-minded interests into nonpartisan voter registration programs and targeted civil action projects in their communities.

Sheree Corniel Executive Director/Founder, Real Talk Youth Impact Program Sheree Corniel earned a softball scholarship to play for UNLV where she obtained her B.A. degree in Criminal Justice and a master’s degree in Educational Counseling. Following her collegiate softball career, she played for the Puerto Rican National Softball Team, which competed in the 1996 Olympics in , Georgia. Ms. Corniel has 22 years of law enforce- ment experience and worked as a juvenile parole officer for the State of Nevada for five years prior to her position with the U.S. Probation Office. She was a part-time instructor for the University of Phoenix and currently teaches at the College of Southern Nevada part- time in the Department of Human Services and Public Safety. Ms. Corniel is a graduate of Leadership Las Vegas. Through her passion to “Change One” youth at a time, Ms. Corniel created the Real Talk Youth Impact Program, a nonprofit to which she volunteers all of her spare time. An entrepreneur, she currently has a provisional patent for a batting trainer for baseball and softball players. Catherine Cortez Masto United States Senator, Nevada Before her election to the U.S. Senate, attorney Catherine Cortez Masto spent her career fighting to protect Nevada families. She served two terms as Nevada’s Attorney General, where she fought to combat drug crime, protected seniors, took on the big banks, and worked to strengthen laws preventing sex trafficking and violence against women. Prior to her service as Attorney General, Senator Cortez Masto worked as an assistant county manager for Clark County and as a federal criminal prosecutor for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C. She also served as chief of staff to Governor Bob Miller. In the 115th Congress, Senator Cortez Masto joined six U.S. Senate Committees that will enable her to be a strong advocate for Nevadans: The Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources; the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation; the Committee on Rules and Administration; the Committee on Indian Affairs; and the Special Committee on Aging.

Genese Dopson Partner, Wilson Elser Genese Dopson is a partner in the office of Wilson Elser. She defends companies, particularly pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, and she serves as defense counsel in matters involving medical malpractice, personal injury, insurance bad faith, employment and discrimination. She has successfully managed cases involving multi-plaintiff, multi-state litigation and has served as national coordinating counsel in pharmaceutical and medical device mass tort litigation.

Leveraging her first career as a registered nurse, Ms. Dopson brought her drug and medical device and malpractice business to Wilson Elser in 2009. She leads the firm’s Pharmaceutical & Medical Device practice and coordinates efforts to field a nationwide team of creative, resolution-oriented attorneys in the drug and medical device and malpractice arena. One of twelve attorneys elevated to the firm’s Senior Trial Group, she possesses keen insight into case assessment and courtroom strategies. Carolyn G. Goodman Mayor of Las Vegas Carolyn Goodman has been mayor of Las Vegas since 2011. Among her priorities is the improvement in inner-city schools, championing preschool programs and tutorials for ESL students and their parents, and bringing together a coalition of public, private and nonprofit partners to participate in achievement-based and measurable educational initiatives. Mayor Goodman accomplished the passage of a long-awaited Nevada Film Tax Credit, which is expected to bring significant new film investment and jobs to Nevada. Recognized nationally by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and the National Association of Independent Schools in 2006 with the Seymour Preston Trustee Award for Leadership, Mayor Goodman has devoted much of her life to volunteerism in Las Vegas. In 2006, the University of Nevada bestowed upon her an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree and in 2010, UNLV announced her as Alumni of the Year in Education. The mayor serves on the Blue Ribbon Committee for Clark County Child Welfare Services and holds national leadership roles as a member of the United States Conference of Mayors, serving on its Advisory Board and as vice chair of its Task Force on Education Reform, and chair of the Mayors’ Business Council. In June 2013, she hosted the annual gathering of the National Conference of Mayors in Las Vegas, which honored her with the Mayors’ 2014 Large City Climate Protection Award.

Tierra D. Jones Eighth Judicial District Court Judge for Department 10 Tierra Jones is the first African American woman to serve on the District Court in the State of Nevada. Immediately after law school, Judge Jones worked as a law clerk for the Honor- able Stewart L. Bell in the Eighth Judicial District Court, and upon passing the State Bar she worked for the Office of the Clark County Public Defender. Judge Jones began her prosecuting career at the Nye County District Attorney’s Office and later at the Clark County District Attorney’s Office. During her time as a defense attorney and a prosecutor, Judge Jones appeared in court almost every day and completed more than 35 jury trials, including several high-profile cases, and argued before the Nevada Supreme Court. She also has volunteered several hours of community service and mentors young law students through the National Bar Association. Judge Jones also reaches out to the Las Vegas community through the Junior League of Las Vegas, which helps children by providing scholarships, mentoring, a career fair, education grants and various activities. Through Leadership Las Vegas she has helped to promote leaders from all professional areas within the community. Susie Lee Board Chair of Communities In Schools of Nevada Susie Lee has worked for more than 20 years to bring people together to forge innovative solutions and help Nevadans lead better, safer and healthier lives. One of eight children, Ms. Lee learned the value of hard work, starting with a paper route at the age of eight. She worked her way through Carnegie Mellon University with a combination of scholar- ships, loans and part-time jobs, and graduated with honors, earning a master’s degree in public management. Upon moving to Las Vegas, she served as a campaign policy adviser to then Las Vegas mayor Jan Laverty Jones and became the founding director of a shelter for homeless women, families and single parents. In 1995, she became the founding director of the After-School All-Stars, now in its 22nd year, which provides 5,000 local children with after-school activities and enrichment programs. Since 2010, Ms. Lee has led Communities In Schools of Nevada, an organization that serves more than 60,000 students in 63 schools statewide.

Harmony Letizia Justice of the Peace for Department 3 While at the University of Arizona, Harmony Letizia served as congressional staff intern to Congresswoman Shelley Berkley, conducting research on constituent-related issues concerning transportation and infrastructure, Veteran’s Affairs and Yucca Mountain. Judge Letizia also served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Michael A. Cherry at the Nevada Supreme Court in Carson City, Nevada, and as a teaching assistant to the Hon- orable Richard Suhrheinrich at the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Prior to her election to the bench, Judge Letizia served as a Chief Deputy Public Defender at the Clark County Public Defender’s Office. In that position, she represented indigent persons in various criminal proceedings, ensuring that they were afforded their constitutional rights. Judge Letizia has served as a mentor to new attorneys and assisted in the training of new attorneys at the Public Defender’s Office. She was recognized by her peers as a Top 25 government attorney in the State of Nevada in the 2015 and 2016 edition of Nevada Business Magazine’s Legal Elite. Elected as a Justice of the Peace in Department 3 in November 2016 for a six-year term, Judge Letizia hears one of the criminal calendars. Marla Renee Letizia Entrepreneur/Philanthropist Marla Letizia, a fourth-generation Las Vegan, has catapulted her business, Big Traffic Mobile LLC, to the forefront of the male-dominated, trucking industry. Earlier, with a background in broadcast journalism and marketing, she gained distinction with numerous “firsts” for a woman entrepreneur and became an owner and operator of radio and television outlets in Nevada and New Mexico. When she “retired” to have her children, she had the highest name recognition of any media personality in the Las Vegas Metro Market. From 1981 to 2001, Ms. Letizia raised two children and supported her husband in his endeavors. She also acted as vice president and chief financial officer for the Letizia Ad Team and attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she completed 30 extra credit hours to achieve a master’s equivalency that enabled her to sit for the Nevada CPA exam in 1998. Ms. Letizia is a founding member of the board of trustees for The Meadows School, and has served on the advisory board of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Nevada since 1995. As the immediate past president of the largest Jewish Reform Synagogue in Southern Nevada, Congregation Ner Tamid, she has demonstrated that women can aspire and rise in any environment. Respected and well-known in the community, Letizia has been honored with numerous awards by business and social groups.

Roger Meertins Las Vegas Office Administrator, Wilson Elser Roger Meertins oversees the financial, human resources and facilities management activities of Wilson Elser’s Las Vegas office. He previously served as National Account Manager for Williams Lea, responsible for managing large-scale, cross- functional legal client engagements for several Am Law 100 firms across the United States. Mr. Meertins’s professional experience includes project management, consulting and operations management for companies such as Hewitt Associates, Ruth’s Chris and Aramark. He received a B.A. degree in Human Resource Development from the University of Florida and is an experienced coach and facilitator. Stacy Rocheleau Founder and Managing Partner of Right Lawyers in Las Vegas Stacy Rocheleau launched the Rocheleau Law Group in 2003. She rapidly gained a reputation as a tenacious trial litigator, tough negotiator and clever legal strategist in the Las Vegas and Henderson legal communities. Specializing in divorce, child custody, child support, guardianships, personal injury, car accidents and general litigation, she is uncompromising in her commitment to clients, while earning the respect of her peers. Ms. Rocheleau graduated from Whittier College with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She earned her law degree from the University of School of Law and moved to Nevada where she has been licensed since 2001. She is admitted to practice in Nevada as well as before the U.S. Federal District Court and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Abbi Silver Chief Judge of the Nevada Court of Appeals Abbi Silver is the only judge in the history of Nevada to preside at every level of the court system and the first woman to be appointed to the Nevada Court of Appeals. Prior to becoming an appellate judge, she was a presiding judge in municipal, justice and district court. After graduating from Southwestern Law School, Chief Judge Silver served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Earle White Jr. She joined the Clark County District Attorney’s Office as a deputy district attorney and was later assigned to the Special Victim’s Unit where she ultimately became the Chief Deputy of the Special Victim’s Unit. Although she specialized in prosecuting and convicting perpetrators for murder, sexual assault and child abuse, she gained notoriety for prosecuting high- profile cases. Chief Judge Silver prosecuted and convicted John Wayne Bobbitt and Floyd Mayweather Jr. for domestic violence and stalking. She also prosecuted and convicted the stalkers of U.S. Senator , U.S. Senator John Ensign, entertainer Jerry Lewis, former sheriff Jerry Keller and casino mogul Steve Wynn. Lidia S. Stiglich Nevada Supreme Court Justice Lidia Stiglich is a member of the Nevada Supreme Court’s Indigent Defense Commission and the Commission on State- wide Rules of Criminal Procedure. Prior to her appointment to the by Governer in November 2016, Justice Stiglich was appointed district court judge of the Second Judicial District Court in November 2012, and was subsequently retained by voters in 2014. As the presiding judge in Department 8 of the district court, Justice Stiglich heard civil and criminal trials. In addition to the duties in Department 8, she served as the Probate Judge for the district and was the co-founder and presiding judge of the Youth Offender Drug Court. Justice Stiglich’s vast experience includes significant federal and state criminal and civil matters, as well as administrative law. Prior to her appointment to the bench, Justice Stiglich was in private practice and served as special counsel to Lieutenant Governor Brian K. Krolicki. Justice Stiglich currently serves as a faculty member at the National Judicial College and an instructor at the University of Nevada, Reno. She has served as an adjunct law professor at the John F. Kennedy School of Law, Golden Gate University School of Law, and New College of the Law.
