TLC COMMITTEE WEBSITE COMMITTEE ADEPT COMMITTEE PUBLICITY COMMITTEE SOCIAL ACTION COMMITTEE TBT NETWORKING GROUP RITUAL COMMITTEE FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE BUDGET & FINANCE SISTERHOOD BOARD OF TRUSTEES BROTHERHOOD NURSERY SCHOOL COMMITTEE EDUCATIONAL TASK FORCES 2 ARC ANGEL– Rabbi Susie Heneson Moskowitz was recently doing an exercise in which I articulated my philosophy for Temple Beth Torah. I TBT is a place where meaningful experiences lead to connections with G!d, other people, Judaism and Israel through Talmud Torah (Study), Tikkun Olam (Repairing the World), Chesed (Act of Caring) and Chavurah (Community). And then I wanted to distill it into one word. The most important part of TBT to me is the CONNECTIONS we make. Sometimes they are connections with the Rabbi or Cantor, sometimes with a teacher or staff member or a board member. More often than not, it is the connections between TBT families. Maybe, its the friends you made in Nursery School or the like-minded person you met while serving on a committee or in a class. It could be a connection from a zoom service at which we celebrated an anniversary or other special moment. Here are 8 ways for YOU to Connect: Chanukah – Join us each night for Candle Lighting and Activity Classes – Learn with others in the community in small groups Calls and texts – Check in with one another Committee Meetings – This is a great way to get involved and have your voice heard Community – Join our new Village Movement Project - more info to follow -Help us to help those in need in the community (Gerald Ryan Outreach, LICH, Mercy Soup Kitchen, United Hatzalah). Contributions - give to Kol Nidre, Tzedakah projects & other Campaigns Chesed (Caring) - Join TLC@TBT to make sure all our members are ok during our shelter in place especially as winter approaches. Chavurah - create a TBT group that you can do something you are interested with (walk dogs, play softball, knit, cook for the soup kitchen or TBT families, etc.) Be part of our TBT Connection. Think about-What is your favorite way to connect with TBT? Are you doing it? Can you invite someone else to join you? What are you doing to help others connect and to stay connected? Although we celebrated Thanksgiving differently this year, we made the best of it. I hope you were able to make the best of this holiday. Let’s all be thankful for Zoom! This election has been challenging. We may have different political views, but we are still a temple community who share many Jewish values that no election can take away. We need to come together and respect our differing views. Our building remains open for staff, clergy, Nursery/Hebrew School and small Bar/Bat Mitzvah services. Rabbi Wiesenberg, Jen Fusco along with their Administrators (Stacy Becker and Didi Poliak) and all teachers are running stellar programs with very happy children and parents. I applaud each of them with how incredibly hard they work each day with their passion to teach our children under these circumstances. Rabbi Moskowitz and Cantor Appelbaum do not skip a beat with their incredibly full schedules and creating ways to remain connected. Our office staff and custodians are bar none with the care they take into the welfare of our Temple and community. On January 14th we will be presenting the Benchmark and Listening Campaign results. We have identified areas and created goals based on the results to continue to grow a Temple community. What we need from you: • I cannot stress enough how important it is to continue supporting TBT. We are all working hard to keep our Temple afloat as we know once we get past this our building will be bustling once again and fully operational. We will be continuing to collect Kol Nidre pledges through the end of the year. You can also make tax deductible end of year donations. Every donation makes a difference and helps support your community. • Get involved, be present and join the many opportunities and events available. There is something for everyone. Our weekly emails and website illustrate all of the events/programs. Have an idea? Bring it to us and let’s make it happen. • Patience, flexibility, understanding and basic kindness to your fellow members and the staff serving the needs of the community. Despite many of us experiencing COVID fatigue (including myself), it is important to not let our guard down and continue with best practices to keep yourself and community safe. The world is different and we must adhere to a new normal and continue to reimagine how we connect with one another. Whether we are together in person, virtual or spiritual, Temple Beth Torah is here for you in every way. Happy Chanukah and wishing all a better 2021! Be well. L’Shalom, Vanessa Newman Temple President 5 ADEPT Winter Speaker Series Adult Education and Entertainment Programs th Monday, December 7 @ 7:00—8:30 pm TBT Schmooze Group : A virtual presentation by Michael Palmer on "Eric Mendelsohn: Synagogue Architect with a Vision." The program will be a approximately a one hour talk with pictures followed by questions and answers. This will be a presentation of the Jewish history of Mendelsohn’s times through his biography. His story is fascinating and relevant, since the Jewish issues in his life and times are with us still today. Eric Mendelsohn designed and built four synagogues in the United States that became benchmarks for modern American synagogue architecture, as Neville Teller wrote in the Jerusalem Post. The aim of my book is to bring Mendelsohn’s lyrical architecture to the attention of contemporary Jewish communities and to discuss the roots of his Jewish identity, from which his synagogue architecture arose. ISIS agent, Sterling Archer, launches his Pirate King Theme FX Cartoon Series Archer Gets Its First Hip Hop Video courtesy of Brooklyn duo, Drop it Steady Fans of the FX cartoon series Archer do not need to be told of its genius. The show was created by many of the same writers who brought you the Fox series Arrested Development. Similar to its predecessor, Archer has built up a strong and loyal fanbase. As with most popular cartoons nowadays, hip-hop artists tend to flock to the animated world and Archer now has it's hip-hop spin off. Brooklyn-based music duo, Drop It Steady, created a fun little song and video sampling the show. The duo drew their inspiration from a series sub plot wherein Archer became a "pirate king" after his fiancée was murdered on their wedding day in front of him. For Archer fans, the song and video will definitely touch a nerve as Drop it Steady turns the story of being a pirate king into a forum for discussing recent break ups. Others say the organizers of Occupy Wall Street were listening to their demo when they began to discuss their movement. Though it has yet to be verified, word that the first two tracks off of their upcoming EP, The Most Interesting EP In The World, were recorded at the ceremony for Prince William and Katie Middleton and are spreading through the internets like wild fire.

  • Doyle-Archer House, 321 W. Doyle
Historic Landmark #30 Doyle-Archer House 321 W. Doyle Street Historic Landmark #30 Doyle-Archer House The Doyle-Archer House was built in 1911. It is an Arts and Crafts Style or Craftsman Style cottage. The Craftsman style was very popular in the early 20th Century and this is a unique example because of the lower roof line and bay windows. It embodies the distinctive characteristics of a type, period, or method of construction. The stone columns were added to the front porch in about the year 2000; the two story addition off of S. Thrash Street was added in September 2002. Another addition was added to the east side of the house before the stone columns were added. As stated in the 2001 Survey for Granbury none of these changes that took place before 2001-2002 have taken away from the high priority status as an important historic property. The floor plans were first published in 1909 in the Ladies Home Journal and were touted as the “Home Plans of the Future”. The cost to build this house was estimated to be $2300. Some of the distinguishable features include; the bay window on the west side, the north elevation porch with hipped roof, the exposed rafter roof ends, and an exterior chimney. The land was first acquired and taxes paid in 1904 by M. S. Millican. Sometime in 1911 or 1912 a significant increase in taxes from $100 to $700 clearly indicated that the house was built. In 1912 William Earle (known as Earle) Doyle and/or his wife Nell paid taxes until 1917.

Not quite aghast, but definitely shocked. For one thing, Sterling has never been much of a reader. In fact, to the best of my knowledge, the only things he ever read growing up were pornographic comic books (we used to call them “Tijuana bibles,” but I’m sure that’s no longer considered polite, what with all these immigrants driving around every- where in their lowriders, listening to raps and shooting all the jobs).

The first paper devoted to this question was Evans and Archer (1968). Later research has criticized the outcome and methodology of this paper, claiming that alternative weighting schemes or other measures of risk should have been considered. I argue that Evans and Archer’s paper is still relevant. I use two weighting schemes, two measures of risk and different time periods to find that 40-50 stocks is all that is needed to achieve diversification in the US stock market. Keywords: portfolio size, diversification, stock market, Evans and Archer. JEL Classification: G11. Optimized multi‐sensor application in the ARCHER automated center‐fixing algorithm Anthony Wimmers and Christopher Velden Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies University of Wisconsin ‐ Madison R&D supported by the Naval Research Lab and Office of Naval Research (PE 0602435N) Operational evaluation by the NOAA Joint Hurricane Testbed 1 Objectives • Create an automated, real‐time TC center‐fixing tool that intelligently employs all available multispectral satellite data. • Provide objective fix guidance for TC analysts/forecasters based on algorithm results. • Integrate the output into a track history. ARCHER: Automated Rotational Center Hurricane Eye Retrieval 2 Project • R&D of ARCHER supported by NRL/ONR • The two‐year project with the Joint Hurricane Testbed includes: 1. Validation of the ARCHER scheme under simulated real‐time conditions 2. If approved, implement an experimental version of ARCHER within JHT framework 3. Final evaluation and adaptations to provide an operational, real‐time algorithm (This presentation focuses on #1, with a discussion of the impacts on 2 and 3.) 3 Potential Benefits of ARCHER To resolve a TC fix, assume an analyst considers all available geostationary images and polar satellite sources. That would include near‐infrared, far‐infrared, visible, multiple‐frequency microwave, and scatterometer observations (plus non‐satellite sources…) All of the above data sources have inherent limitations and strengths based on both sensor type/capability and situation. ARCHER will integrate all of the above information to provide an objective and quick interpretation of the TC path as indicated by the available multispectral satellite data, with corresponding information on position confidence and the most reliable satellite sources.
