REPORTS PRESIDENT & EXECUTIVE OFFICER Dear members, INTRUST SUPER CUP The 2017 season was one of what could have been. The Club recruited well over the off-season, signing a number of established ISC players, including 2016 Queensland Residents representative players Jack Svendsen, Linc Port and David Murphy. Also returning to the Tigers was former ISC skipper Steve Thorpe, exciting winger Jarrod McInally and young half-back Brayden Torpy. The Club also secured the services of former Australia Schoolboy half Gerard McCallum and former Queensland U20’s representative centre Conor Carey. The squad was again strengthened by the allocation of Melbourne Storm players, including former Kangaroo and Maroon prop-forward Nate Myles, which made the Tigers a very formidable squad to contest the 2017 ISC competition. After a tough pre-season under the guidance of Strength and Conditioning Coach Grant Cole, the side commenced Round 1 in great condition. The side started the season well and dominated most teams during the regular season, but unfortunately had a number of uncharacteristic poor performances, which resulted in finishing in 3rd place on the ladder. The Tigers defeated the Townsville Blackhawks here at Suzuki Stadium in week 1 of the finals, but were unfortunately beaten by grand finalist, the Sunshine Coast Falcons, ending the Tigers 2017 season. The 2017 season saw the retirement of a number of the Club’s senior players, including Steve Thorpe, Matt Zgrajewski and Mat Pitman, all who will be sorely missed. Popular hooker Tommy Butterfield celebrated his 100th first grade game with the Tigers, becoming the Club’s 38th Centurion. Congratulations also to Billy Walters and Dean Britt on their selection in the Queensland Residents team who convincingly beat the NSW Blues here at Suzuki Stadium. Recruitment for 2018 is progressing well with the signing of NRL premiership winning prop forward David Tyrrell from the South Sydney Rabbitohs. Also joining David from the Rabbitohs is former Queensland Residents back-rower Brett Greinke. Former West Tigers prop forward Matt Groat will join the Tigers from the CQ Capras. The Club has recruited a number of talented young players from the former U20 NYC competition but as also gained some experience with regular ISC players Harley Aiono (Redcliffe), Evander Cummins (South-Logan Magpies) and Delaroy Berriman (Manly Sea Eagles) who will call Langland’s Park home in 2018. BRISBANE RUGBY LEAGUE A GRADE The BRL A grade side had a mixed 2017 season, finishing in 5th sport on the In-Safe-Hands ladder. The side was eliminated in week 1 of the finals series, losing to the West Brisbane Panthers. The 2017 side was a young side and included a number of our Colts U20 players. The side will be better in 2018 for the experience. Thank-you to coach David Krause and his support staff for their efforts throughout the season. FOGS COLTS Our 2017 Colts side were all too inconsistent throughout the season. The side failed to make the play-offs for the U20’s State-wide competition, but managed to finish in 5th place at the end of the regular FOGS U20’s competition (South East Queensland based competition). After defeating the Sunshine Coast Falcons in week 1 of the finals, the boys were beaten by the Tweed Heads Seagulls here at Suzuki Stadium, ending the season in 4th place. Thank-you to coach Ian Gough and his support staff for their efforts throughout the season.
PAGE 11 REPORTS PRESIDENT & EXECUTIVE OFFICER’S REPORT
OPEN WOMEN’S In a first for the Club, the Tigers fielded an Open Women’s side in the Struddy’s Cup, which is the South East Queensland’s premier women’s competition. The side, which contained four Jillaroos were very competitive, finishing the regular season in 3rd place. Unfortunately, the side suffered a number of injuries at the back-end of the season and the side was eliminated in week 2 of the finals and finished the season in 4th place. Congratulations to Karina Brown, Steph Hancock, Vanessa Foliaki and Sasha Mahuika on their selection in the Australian Jillaroos side. Thanks to coach Duane Rehua and his team for their efforts MAL MENINGA CUP Our Meninga Cup side progressed through to the state semi-finals before being beaten by competition winners the South West Mustangs. The side were a real surprise-package for the Club and improved each game. Congratulations to Rhett Tronc and his coaching staff for their efforts PRESENTATION NIGHT With the conclusion of the season, the Club’s Awards night was held on the 6th October at Easts Leagues Club, whereby the player’s celebrated the achievements of the 2017 season. The following is only short list of Special award winners on the night, the full list can be found in the award winners section of the annual report. The Club Person of the Year award this year was awarded to Andrew “Rosco” Ross for his untiring work as the Intrust Super Cup Manager and volunteer. Mrs Helen Hendy was presented with her Life Membership Badge which was equally fitting, due to her high level of involvement with the Club, both as an administrator and as a volunteer. Also receiving his Life Membership badge was Greg MacDonald for his tireless efforts with both our Junior and Senior Division. Congratulations Helen and Greg. The Patrons Trophy for 2017 Best and Fairest player was awarded to Billy Walters, who also won the 2017 Player’s Player. Billy had an outstanding season as he was also named as the Intrust Super Cup five-eight of the year. Billy secured himself a two-year contract with the Melbourne Storm. 12 PAGE EASTERN SUBURBS DRLFC 2017 ANNUAL REPORT IN MEMORY On a sad note, the Club lost a number of our Life Members throughout the season including Paddy McGrath, John Sheppard, Bob Isaacs and Dr Nick Conomos. All greatly contributed to the success of the Club and will be sadly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends. IN APPRECIATION We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Management Committee, players, coaches, support staff and our volunteers who put in such a committed effort to make our Club the great club it is. We would also like to thank our partners and sponsors who continually provide financial and in-kind support, which allows us to play in Australia’s best rugby league competition outside of the NRL. Special thanks to our Leagues Club Board, General Manager Sharna McLean and her staff for their continued support. A big thank-you goes to our canteen coordinator Debra Phillips and her team of Deslyn Marment, Tracy Bennett and Kerri Geran for their tremendous work in the canteen. Also a thank-you to committee members Chris Tanzer and Amdrew Barr for providing outstanding service to our patrons at the can bar on game days. Thank-you to Mike and Helen Hendy to provide such a great hospitality service to our sponsors on game day, ensure our sponsors’ and guests are well catered for, and enjoy a great game day experience here at Suzuki Stadium. We thank Ray Grieshaber, Andrew Barr and Wayne Adams for their outstanding effort in the PA Box. Special thanks to Andrea Sheahan, Kerri Torpy and Kym Rachow for your involvement and hard work in promoting the Club through the Tiger’s Den merchandise shop. The Tiger’s Den allows supporters to show their support for the Club in a variety of ways. This includes keeping the younger ones involved with the Tigers Cub’s Club. Kim Rachow must also be thanked for coordinating our great team of ball-boys, who once again did a tremendous job on game day. Committee members Greg McDonald, Mike Hendy and Helen Hendy who manned our gate at home games, we also thank-you for your efforts. Thank you to Daryl, Andrew and Kel Bogan for their roles in our Tiger TV productions. Our front of camera staff including Mike Higginson, Warren Boland and Matt Crowhurst who were outstanding again in 2017, providing polished and professional calls. To you we send our thanks. Also, thanks to James Cheeseman for his constant updated reports to our Facebook and Twitter accounts. Our live stream broadcasts were very successful in 2017, with just under 80,000 views during the season. Our media coverage we generate through Tiger TV and social media makes us the envy of most clubs in the competition. Thank-you to Margaret Keates for her great photography work, not only on game day, but also at our Awards evening and fundraising events. A special thanks to our groundsman Mark McDonald, who is responsible for producing and maintaining arguably Brisbane best suburban rugby league playing surface. Mark also cleans-up after every home game and we thank-you for your assistance. To our Development and Pathways Manager Steve People, thank-you for your work in 2017. Steve must be congratulated for his efforts in re-establishing the Tigers Academy squads as well as pushing the Tiger brand and development pathway to Ipswich State High School and Mabel Park High School. Thanks also to Andrea Sheahan and Kel Bogan for their efforts in the administration of the Club. A big thank-you to Col Logan and his team from the Past Players and Officials Association. The Past Players do a fantastic job in fundraising not only for our Club, but also for our affiliate junior clubs. To all our coaching, off field staff and team managers, we thank you for your diligence and efforts in making the Club so effective and enjoyable throughout the season. Finally, we would like to thank our members and fans who make our Club so great.
Merry Christmas to all and see you at the football in 2017.

REPORTS JUNIOR DIVISION
It’s with a great deal of pride that I’m writing about the 2017 season. Our club again had another successful year in 2017 with a small increase in player numbers along with the signing of a new major jersey sponsor, “Minelab Electronics Pty Ltd.” I’d like to make a special thank you to all our sponsors this season, along with thanks to Easts Leagues Club and Senior Division Management Committee for their continued support.
OUR VALUED SPONSORS Easts Leagues Club Minelab Electronics Pty Ltd – Fraser Kendall The Peak Partnership – John Eales Stones Corner Eyewear – Simon Clark Yatala Pie Shop – Porter Family Good Life Holland Park – Jake De Ruyter Joe Kelly MP – Joe Kelly The Bent Elbow – Jeremy Van Balen APAK Wholesalers – Angelo & Despina Mangelakis
Easts Juniors relies heavily on the support of our volunteers, both on and off the playing field. Without their valuable support the club wouldn’t be able to operate and provide a safe and friendly environment for all. A short list of these volunteers included the clubs Executive and Management Committees, along with all our coaches, managers and their support staff. The club would like to thank you for your continuing support.
This season with the increase in player numbers to 355 the club was able to field some 24 teams in age groups from under 6 through to under19. On the field during the 2017season, all teams performed to the best of their ability, thus enabled the club to have success in a number of teams. These teams got to play in Chairman’s Trophy Finals, Ted Beaumont Trophy Final, Semi-Finals, Grand Finals and Cross River Final for the club in 2017.

To all of our coaches, managers, support staff, players and parents congratulations on a great season. The recipient of the Mark Fyfe Memorial Trophy in 2017 for the player judged most likely to succeed in senior football went to Solomona Faataape. This year’s the Len Conroy Trophy for Club person of the year was awarded to Kym Rachow for her continuing work for the club. A special mention of thanks must go to Mr. Brian Navybox for his efforts and leadership over the last three years. Unfortunately he was unable to complete his third year as president of the juniors due to family and work commitments. The club would like to thank you for your service to the club. The club has had a very successful season in this its 67th year of operation. I would like to thank the Management committee, all of our sponsors, Past Players and Officials Association along with the Eastern Suburbs D.R.L.F.C. for the 2017 season.
Merry Christmas to all and we will see you in 2018.

The Junior Development Program this season began under a new name and format, re-branded the Easts Tigers Development Academy. The Academy not only focused on players on-field ability but placed a lot of emphasis on off-field education. The four participating age groups were named after former club legends: John Eales, Wayne Lindenberg, John Lang and Des Morris.
