 The board met on 12 April 2016. Items that may interest the LCYC community include:  Philippe Girard will oversee the annual lessons. They will be held 6-10 June from 5:30-7:30 and will be free. Philippe is asking for other volunteers to help serve as instructors on the boats: we need 5-6 volunteers daily. You can come on select days if you can’t volunteer for the whole week. You may also consider racing bigger boats on the 8 June Wednesday series and take on the trainees as crew so that they can experience racing on different boats. We’ll have a party on the 10th when hosting the Texas 4000 crew.  Sheron Faulk noted that members can pay their membership fees online by having their bank send a check directly to the LCYC (like any regular bill).  John Kalna noted that the motor on the club boat was stolen. Please let the board know if you have tips. Also: remember to always lock the gate when you leave!  The board would like to thank all those who took part in the work party in March.  The board is looking at solutions to limit the soil erosion problem along the beach. Rebuilding a rock breaker that once existed on the SW side is an option.  Shingles on the roof have been fixed. The board purchased 2 new sets of sails for the Sun Fish fleet.  New members: Lanny Smith; Laura and Steve Gayfield; James Stohr. Welcome aboard!  There will be a social hosted by Sheron Faulk on 30 April. Thanks Sheron! Details to come.  From Sheron Faulk (24 March): “It is with great sadness that I send this email to inform you all that the LCYC suffered a tragic loss of a dear friend yesterday. Kelly Clark was involved in a fatal vehicle accident yesterday afternoon. Kelly and Neil have been LCYC members for a few years. She will be greatly missed by all. Please extend your thoughts and prayers to Neil, his family and friends as they go through this most difficult time.”  The club has acquired a canoe, which is available to all members for free. Bring your own paddle…  Canoeists will be using the LCYC this spring to practice for the dragon race.  Want to know the wind conditions at the club? Check the LCYC weather station at http://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KLALAKEC14

Race results

From Scott Cesar, 12 March (March Winds regatta):

“We had the March Winds Regatta with very good winds. Before the race the meter at the club showed winds from 13 - 18 kts. Four boats participated with eleven competitors. Philippe and Remy had a very good day on the water and were moving fast the whole time and took overall first place. James and Richard Doss ended up with a tie after the two races.

RRS A8.1 (US Sailing's Racing Rules of Sailing) states: If there is a series-score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used. Using this both boats have a 2 and a 3 so there is a tie which leads to having to use RRS A8.2.

RRS A8.2 (US Sailing's Racing Rules of Sailing) states: If a tie remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores. Due to this the last scores determine who wins. Richard Doss ended up with the win over James in the last race so he takes 2nd place and James gets 3rd.

Ken Abraham ended up not starting the race due to unknown problems and was given a DNS.

After the racing we lit the grill and had about 20 people show up. James Latour made a chicken and deer sausage jambalaya for everyone to share and various members brought out and cooked hamburgers, boudin, steaks, pork chops, etc.”

From Scott Cesar, 23 March (Wednesday series 1, race 1): “About 15 people showed up yesterday afternoon between the racing and the hot dog social. The weather station at the club showed winds at 23 mph with gusts to 28. The decision was made to cancel the race for the day and proceed with cooking some hot dogs.”

From John Kalna, 30 March (Wednesday series 1, race 2): “No Wednesday race. Winds were in the upper 30s.” (see photos sent by Ken Abrahams, page 6)

From Scott Cesar, 6 April (Wednesday series 1, race 3): “The wind was blowing around 10 mph and was rather steady on most of the lake until you got to the southern end. I set a rather short starting line and we raced to D mark for the upwind leg as the wind was coming from closest to there. Six boats showed up to the start. James Latour held his line to the south end of the lake a bit longer than a few of the rest of us. He said he had initially overstood the mark but a shift came and he suddenly was pointing directly at it while a few others, myself included. I now had to make an additional tack to make the mark. The wind stayed good for most of the race and we even got to see Charlie fly a hull on his Stiletto. All the boats made it back in with no problems reported. Congratulations James on beating us all pretty bad.

From Scott Cesar, 9 April (Championship regatta): “We had the club Championship Regatta Saturday. The winds were really good at the beginning of the day with 10-12 mph and it built a little as the day went on. Three boats ended up starting the first race. John Kalna in his Nacra 5.0, Philippe Girard and James Latour took out the club Flying Scot and I had Duane Hendry out with me on my Flying Scot. Being that it was Philippe and James first time in the Flying Scot together we all went without the spinnaker. Probably would've had a blast with the wind out there with them up. John Kalna decidedly got out in front of us from the beginning of the first two races and left us to our own race. It was tight racing among the Scots with the lead changing every few tacks and the real deciding leg was the last windward run to the finish. Philippe and James did awesome out there for their first time teaming up on the Scot for the racing. I wish them luck next weekend out in Lake Arthur for the Crawfish Regatta. So in the third race I took a DNS giving me third place plus one for four points total. This resulted in John Kalna winning the regatta and Phillipe and myself tying for second place. Going to the current racing rules of sailing I looked up rule A8.1. So looking at it this way I ended up beating Philippe/James due to having the first place in the second race and them having none. Sorry guys.”
