Report of World Soil Day Celebration on 5th December 2015 ICAR Institutes, Agricultural Universities and Krishi Vigyan Kendras In the light of the initiatives of Hon’ble Prime Minister for Soil Health Management as a part of Natural Resource Management in the country, the Deptt. of Agricultural Research and Education, New Delhi is implementing Soil Health Card Scheme for the farmers. The 68th UN General Assembly declared 2015 as the International Year of Soils (IYS) for raising awareness among the people on the importance of soil in sustaining life support system on earth. Keeping this in view, Indian Council of Agricultural Research celebrated World Soil Day on 5th December 2015 across the country. Necessary instructions were given to ICAR institutes/ Agricultural Universities and Krishi Vigyan Kendras to organize events in a befitting manner creating awareness among the farmers about the importance of soil for healthy life. A total of 607 Krishi Vigyan Kendras and 80 ICAR institutions/Agricultural Universities have organized the function inviting dignitaries viz. Hon’ble Union Ministers (10), Governor (01), Chief Ministers (03), MPs (97), MLAs (184) etc. Notable among them are as under.
