Rochester, NY Submission to the Downtown Revitalization Initiative 6/10/2016 Executive Summary The revitalization of downtown Rochester must engage and retain young adults as residents who want to live and work in cities. A recent Urban Land Institute and National League of Cities supported a study of downtown Rochester, NY identified an immediate need to re-activate the Genesee Riverfront and Main Street to target diverse young adults and bring vibrancy to the fronts of downtown buildings. Critical to re-activating Rochester’s downtown is giving the job to rebuild it to the people who need the work the most. Thanks to the efforts of the Governor’s Rochester Anti-Poverty Task Force and the local Rochester Monroe Anti-Poverty Initiative (RMAPI), the anti-poverty program pilot area is adjacent to Rochester’s downtown district. The program will provide employment supports (e.g. daycare and transportation) to stabilize families and connect them to Rochester’s downtown success. Rochester’s downtown district, the Center City District (CCD), is experiencing dramatic residential growth. Developers partnered with government to create new living spaces within iconic buildings. Despite the 1.7 million people visiting the district annually and record investment in downtown growing high tech firms, retail and walkable amenities do not support 18 hours of activity. Foot traffic by young adults connecting downtown living and work will bridge the gap between living and work that exists in downtown Rochester, NY. Young adults are drawn to an iconic city and will create the demand for first floor retail that will give jobs and stabilize neighborhoods.

  • Notes from the Chapter Chair
RETIRED PUBLIC EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION, INC. CENTRAL NEW YORK CHAPTER NEWS & NOTES APRIL, 2018 NOTES FROM THE CHAPTER CHAIR The Chapter held a Holiday Party on December 4TH with 111 in attendance. I think everyone enjoyed our entertainment of EDDIE FAGAN with a combination of Holiday music, old time favorites and sing-alongs. I want to thank our Steering Committee (as well as several husbands) for their help in preparing for this event and for their extensive help during the party itself. We couldn’t have done it without everyone helping! Plus, a thank you to members JUDY BARTON, TERI RISLEY and LILLIE WELYCH for their help in selling our raffle tickets. We have donation jars on tables at each of our meetings. In December we collected for a local food pantry- St. Lucy’s Church in Syracuse, NY. This pantry serves some of the poorest in our community. We collected $159 and they were extremely appreciative to receive it. We also collected old or used eye glasses to donate. Our 50/50 raffle of $118 was won by DON GROVINE. We have a Money Tree for our Holiday Party consisting of cash and lottery tickets with a value of $100 – plus a small artificial tree with whatever decorations are on it. This year this was won by DIANE JUSTIAN. Many individuals and companies donated either gift baskets to be raffled off, items for gift baskets or door prizes. We want to acknowledge and thank all of them for their generosity: ASHLEY LYNN WINE, BAYBERRY HAIRSTYLISTS, CAROL BRAUND, SYRACUSE CHIEFS, MARGAL COLEGROVE, COPPERTOP RESTAURANT, DAWN BENNETT, DIANE DWIRE, GOOD BUDDY’S RESTAURANT, JUDY LIEBER-BUTLER, JUST HAIR, MAN IN THE MOON CHOCOLATES, MARY KLEMENTOWSKI, NICHOLS GROCERY, RED SCHOOL HOUSE MAPLE, ROSE D’AGOSTINO, RUDY’S OF LAKE ONTARIO, TULLY’S RESTAURANT, TWO GUYS AUTO.

Roach, Falconer Printing and Design CHAUTAUQUA REGION COMMUNITY FOUNDATION ~ The Road to 35 ~ 1 or 35 years, the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation has been a supporter of local nonprofit organizations by providing financial assistance through our extensive fund base. While we have many funds whose awards have a designated purpose, our most coveted funds are those with no designation at all. Through the years, this money has been called unrestricted, community service, special projects and most Frecently the Fund for the Region. We have learned that whatever one chooses to call it, these donations fall into the category of caring and giving. An individual must care for his or her community to give a donation without designation. It is that sense of caring that gives our Board of Directors full authority to direct this money to projects and initiatives that will better our community for future generations. As we embark on the “Road to 35,” we look at these types of donations to lay the pavement for our success. This proverbial road takes us through the communities of Randolph, Clymer, Mayville, Falconer and others around the region, to make good things happen. We may not know what the next 35 years hold, but, by following in the footsteps of the founders, donors, Board of Directors and volunteers who have come before us, we can be sure that the Community Foundation will remain a place where caring and giving prevail… Jennifer L.
