Warm Regards, Rick Dunlap Rick Dunlap, Director of Public Relations Visit Hershey & Harrisburg 3211 North Front Street, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 17110 Media Lounge Online Resource Center: VisitHersheyHarrisburg.org/MEDIA [email protected] | Cell: 717.884.3328 HARRISBURG Overview: Harrisburg, the Capital of Pennsylvania, was once inhabited by Native Americans as early as 3000 BC. Known as Peixtin, the area was an important trading post for Native American traders, as trails leading from the Delaware to the Ohio Rivers, and from the Potomac to the Upper Susquehanna intersected there. The primary natural feature of the city is the Susquehanna River, 464 miles (747 km) long and is today the longest river on the US East Coast. With its watershed, the river is the 16th-largest river in the United States, and the longest river in the continental United States without commercial boat traffic today. In the Canal Era, navigation improvements were made to enhance the river for barge shipping of bulk goods by water on the Pennsylvania Canal.

HERSHEY Overview: Today the town of Hershey is a year-round, world class travel destination with an amusement park, exclusive resort properties, family attractions and amenities. In 1906, Milton S. Hershey opened Hershey Park as a place where his factory workers and their families could relax and be entertained. Surrounded by some of America’s most productive dairy farms, the world’s first modern chocolate factory and model town became a real community. Today the chocolate empire supports the Milton S. Hershey School, a cost-free, private, coeducational boarding school for more than 2,000 students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade from income-eligible families across the U.S. The school was established by Milton and Catherine Hershey in 1909 to provide a positive, structured home life year-round to help children gain the skills to be successful in all aspects of life.

Tattered Flag Brewery and Still Works Owners: Pat Devlin, Matt Fritz, Tony DeLellis, and Ben Ramsay 1 South Union Street, Middletown, PA 17057 Tel: 717-616-8799 // Email: [email protected] Web: www.TatteredFlagbsw.com Hours: Mon-Thur 7am-10pm, Fri & Sat 7am-Midnight, Sun 10am-8pm.

This combo craft brewery & distillery has been an idea in the minds of Pat Devlin, Matt Fritz, Tony DeLellis, and Ben Ramsay since the group graduated high school together in 2000. For the name, the owners believed that a tattered flag is not just a worn piece of cloth… but a symbol of experience and character. Threadbare and frayed, a tattered flag still represents the ideals and beliefs of those who stand behind it, constantly seeking excellence, success, and the achievement of those goals with honor. Tattered Flag is a veteran-owned operation, and therefore the owners live by the character they identify in a worn flag as they strive to give back to the surrounding communities by producing a high-quality product locally and providing local patrons and first-time visitors with a warm and welcoming experience.

Back in 2010, brothers Chris & John Trogner were sketching a vision for their new brewery on the back of a napkin. In 2011, that vision became the 90,000 sq-ft Tröegs Brewery in Hershey with a 5,000 sq-ft Tasting Room, open brewhouse, and General Store. The brothers’ napkin also included an important yet unrealized vision - a space dedicated to wood- aging, a sanctuary for strong ageable ales, a home for wild yeast & bacteria, and a wide-open canvas for creative cellaring, where a new series of PA wild ales would be brewed with fruit & microflora from their own backyard. In July 2016, their “wood-aging dream space” dubbed The Splinter Cellar opened with three 20-foot-tall “foeders” (Dutch for large oak tank) handcrafted by the 200-year-old Italian barrel manufacturer Giobatta & Piero Garbellotto using dozens of staves of Italian, Hungarian & French oak air-dried for three years to mellow any harsh flavors.

The vineyard is just one facet of the Cassel farm which is also home to Cassel Brookside Stables and a thoroughbred racehorse facility and broodmare foaling center. Owners Theo and Brandalynn Armstrong are the heart & soul of the story that specializes in clean, balanced ales and lagers. Zeroday is not a full restaurant, but it offers a fun snack menu with items like the Large Ass Pretzel (seriously bigger than your face) or you can bring your own from the nearby market. The owners operated a successful crowd funding campaign to launch their dream. What’s with the name? Zero Day is a term used by those hiking the Appalachian Trail for days you take a break and do nothing. You log zero miles. It’s typically reserved for a worthwhile city or town. This spot is certainly worthy of a Zeroday.

The 160-seat restaurant began by focusing on authentic and sustainable food sourced from local growers and producers, many located next door in the Broad Street Market. The restaurant offers a full-service bar featuring draft and bottled microbrews, craft beers, and nano-brews from local breweries, plus a full menu of spirits and artisan cocktails. Thirty-five (35) regional artists have studios located inside the Millworks' building, allowing customers the opportunity to watch sculptors, painters, and others from the restaurant and biergarten.

Open houses on weekends allow customers to walk through the studios, engaging with the artists and seeing their craft performed in person. With a full stage and sound system, the Millworks also hosts events including live music by local & touring bands and singer songwriters.

In Fall 2016 developer Joshua Kesler expanded to include an in-house brewery and completed the 165-seat rooftop biergarten, the largest in the city, with aerial view of Harrisburg’s Midtown neighborhood.

The facility will be named as a National Park Service Registry of Historic Places and the architecture & design includes repurposed lumber for furnishings & interior construction, lighting from the Broad Street Market from 1920’s, a portion of a Pennsylvania railroad car on display in the dining area, and the wood-fired oven constructed of bricks from an 1830’s farmhouse in nearby Perry County.

This sister restaurant emerged in November 2014 and shines a light on Latin Fusion in Harrisburg. The Latin American menu is unique in the way it flips Mexican- influenced botanas (aka Spanish tapas) or small plates into full size entrées that can be shared. The menu bursts with fresh, clean-tasting herb and spice enhanced flavors. There are lofty salads, layered sandwiches made on ciabatta bread and diverse flatbreads. The intimate atmosphere seats just 30 people at tables & small bar.

Jackson House (LUNCH ONLY) 1004 North 6th Street, Harrisburg, PA 17102 Tel: 717-238-2730 // Facebook: The-Jackson-House Hours: Mon-Fri 10:30am-2pm, Sat & Sun – Closed. For more than 30 years the Jackson House has been the hands-down widely acclaimed “Best Burger in Town” by remaining true to their winning formula: Keep it simple. Fresh ground beef. Hand-rounded patties. Hamburgers seared & sizzled to order over an open flame. All the other burger bells and whistles don’t mean a thing if you ain’t got that smoky-flavored thing, according to owner Dave Kegris, who packs as much personality as his patties. Dave is often roasted by locals and loyal fans for his sometime surly demeanor. But it’s all part of his painstaking practice of selling no hamburger before they are just right, and that takes time. These hulking, half-pound patties take a full 20-minutes to smoke & sizzle over the open flame on the charbroil grill. The wafting smoke flavoring the beef & the spitting flames charring the burgers in wonderful mysterious ways are all reasons for this place consistently claiming top prize for Best Local Burger.

This new vision promises to bring patrons closer to their food, with a majority of the sustainably grown ingredients sourced from within 90-miles, whenever possible, and by featuring the people who make the meal possible.
