The erstwhile district of Shahabad had four sub-divisions of which Bhabua was one. In 1972 Rohtas district was formed and it contained Bhabua sub-division of the erstwhile Shahabad district. The present district of Kaimur has been formed in 1991 from the whole of the erstwhile Bhabua sub-division of Shahabad district which had been passed over into Rohtas district. Kaimur has an old and interesting history. The earliest evidence of human habitation in the district consists of rock paintings in the Lehda forest that date to around 20,000 years ago. In pre-historic days, the plateau region of Kaimur had been the abode of the aboriginals namely Bhars, Cheros, Savers, etc. The district of Kaimur formed a part of the mighty Magadhan empire under the Mauryan and Gupta rulers from the 6th century B.C. to 5th century A.D. Later it was ruled by Harshavardhan of Kannauj, Senas, Palas and Gauda kings. Subsequently, Kaimur passed under the direct control of the Muslim empire of Delhi. Afghan ruler Sher Shah's father, Hassan Khan got the Jagir of Sasaram. In 1537 the old Shahabad district witnessed the battle of Humayun and Sher Shah at Chausa. Later the district of Shahabad was included in Akbar's empire. The historic sepoy mutiny of 1857 under the command of Kunwar Singh had its impact on the district, as a result of which the district made a substantial contribution during the freedom movement of India. • India: Patna (Bihar) Hospital PPP
Public-Private Partnership Impact Stories India: Patna (Bihar) Hospital PPP Located in eastern India, Bihar is a low income state (LIS) with around 104 million people. According to the Government of India (GoI), over half the population is Below Poverty Line (BPL). In addition, the public health services in Bihar face severe constraints, especially lack of affordable specialty/tertiary care services. There are substantial gaps in health sector infrastructure and essential health requirements, including qualified staff, equipment, drugs, and consumables. As a result, people in the state have to travel to other states for their treatment. To help the state govern- ment improve access to, and availability of, advanced and affordable healthcare, IFC provided advisory assistance to the Government of Bihar and the state’s Infrastructure Development Authority (IDA), to structure and implement a public-private partner- ship (PPP) aimed at building, operating, and maintaining a greenfield super-specialty hospital in Patna, the capital city of the State of Bihar. The project was awarded on a competitive bid process to Global Health Patliputra Private Limited (GHPPL), a unit of Medanta the Medicity, one of India’s largest multi- super specialty hospitals. The concession agreement was signed with GHPPL on 22nd August 2015. The developer will develop the 500 bed super specialty hospital on Design, Build, Finance, Operate, & Transfer (DBFOT)) basis for a concession period of 33 years. This series provides an overview of public-private partnership stories in various infrastructure sectors, where IFC was the lead advisor. IFC’s advisory work was undertaken with financial support from the IFC Advisory Services in Public-Private Partnerships HANSHEP Health PPP facility funded by the UK’s Department for In- 2121 Pennsylvania Ave.

Chirand Chalcolithic Culture Dr. Dilip Kumar Assistant Professor (Guest) Dept. of Ancient Indian History & Archaeology, Patna University, Patna Paper – CC-XI, Sem. – III With the end of the Neolithic Age, several cultures started using metal, mostly copper and low grade bronze. The culture based on the use of copper and stone was termed as Chalcolithic meaning stone-copper Phase. In India, it spanned around 2000 BC to 700 BC. This culture was mainly seen in Pre-Harappan phase, but at many places it extended to Post-Harappan phase too. The people were mostly rural and lived near hills and rivers. The Chalcolithic culture corresponds to the farming communities, namely Kayatha, Ahar or Banas, Malwa, and Jorwe. The term Chalcolithic is a combination of two words- Chalco+Lithic was derived from the Greek words "khalkos" + "líthos" which means "copper" and "stone" or Copper Age. It is also known as the Eneolithic (from Latin aeneus "of copper") is an archaeological period that is usually considered to be part of the broader Neolithic (although it was originally defined as a transition between the Neolithic and the Bronze Age). Chirand is an archaeological site in the Saran district of Bihar, situated on the northern bank of the Ganga River. It has a large pre-historic mound, known for its continuous archaeological record from the Neolithic age to the reign of the Pal dynasty who ruled during the pre-medieval period; the excavations in Chirand have revealed stratified Neolithic and Iron Age settlements, transitions in human habitation patterns dating from 2500 BC to 30 AD.
