This area has also been subjected to the influence of changing climate conditions since the Middle-Upper Pliocene when seasonal weather patterns were established. Consequently, the ichthyofauna of southern Iberia is an interesting model system for analyzing the influence of Cenozoic tectonic and climatic events on its evolutionary history. The cyprinids Squalius malacitanus and Squalius pyrenaicus are allopatrically distributed in southern Iberia and their evolutionary history may have been defined by Cenozoic tectonic and climatic events. We analyzed MT-CYB (510 specimens) and RAG1 (140 specimens) genes of both species to reconstruct phylogenetic relationships and to estimate divergence times and ancestral distribution ranges of the species and their populations. -

(=albovittatus auctt. non Chevrolat) (Argelia). Se propone S. viridis Velázquez de Castro nom. n. como nombre de reemplazo para S. maroccanus Desbrochers, 1895, non Stierlin, 1886. Twenty species of Sitona exclusive to northern Africa are revised. Three species of Sitona are described: S. cornutus sp. n. (Libya), S. minutus sp. n. and S. sghiwer sp. n. (=albovittatus auctt. non Chevrolat) (Algeria). S. viridis Velázquez de Castro nom. n. is proposed as replacement name for S. maroccanus Desbrochers, 1895, non Stierlin, 1886. K1P 6P4, CANADA;[email protected] 3Department of Recent Invertebrates, Virginia Museum of Natural History, 21 Starling Avenue, Martinsville, Virginia 24112; [email protected] ABSTRACT: One-hundred thirty-five taxa (130 identified to species), in at least 97 genera, of weevils (superfamily Curculionoidea) were documented during a 21-year field survey (1998–2018) of the George Washington Memorial Parkway national park site that spans parts of Fairfax and Arlington Counties in Virginia. Twenty-three species documented from the parkway are first records for the state. Of the nine capture methods used during the survey, Malaise traps were the most successful. Periods of adult activity, based on dates of capture, are given for each species. Relative abundance is noted for each species based on the number of captures. Sixteen species adventive to North America are documented from the parkway, including three species documented for the first time in the state. Range extensions are documented for two species. Images of five species new to Virginia are provided. Keywords: beetles, biodiversity, Malaise traps, national parks, new state records, Potomac Gorge. INTRODUCTION This study provides a preliminary list of the weevils of the superfamily Curculionoidea within the George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) national park site in northern Virginia. -

As its European and North-African taxa are treated in the book "Die Spinner und Schwärmer Europas und Nordwestafrikas", the taxonomical situation of genus Paidia HBN. within Europe and North-West-Africa is published here first of all as part of the whole revision. The complete revision (including morphology of genitalia and antennae etc.) will follow after the manuscript of the book will be drawn to a close. In this paper the following results are dealt with: the taxa Paidia rica FREYER, [1858] (= murina HÜBNER, 1790) and fuiiginosa REISSER, 1928 prove to be conspecific, Paidia griseola ROTHSCHILD, 1933 (stat. nov.) and Paidia cineras- cens (HERRICH-SCHÄFFER, [1847]) (stat. nov.) prove to be bonae species, the latter is new for the European fauna. -

Submission Re Proposed Cooloola World Heritage Area Boundary
Nearshore Marine Biodiversity of the Sunshine Coast, South-East Queensland: Inventory of molluscs, corals and fishes July 2010 Photo courtesy Ian Banks Baseline Survey Report to the Noosa Integrated Catchment Association, September 2010 Lyndon DeVantier, David Williamson and Richard Willan Executive Summary Nearshore reef-associated fauna were surveyed at 14 sites at seven locations on the Sunshine Coast in July 2010. The sites were located offshore from Noosa in the north to Caloundra in the south. The species composition and abundance of corals and fishes and ecological condition of the sites were recorded using standard methods of rapid ecological assessment. A comprehensive list of molluscs was compiled from personal observations, the published literature, verifiable unpublished reports, and photographs. Photographic records of other conspicuous macro-fauna, including turtles, sponges, echinoderms and crustaceans, were also made anecdotally. The results of the survey are briefly summarized below. 1. Totals of 105 species of reef-building corals, 222 species of fish and 835 species of molluscs were compiled. Thirty-nine genera of soft corals, sea fans, anemones and corallimorpharians were also recorded. An additional 17 reef- building coral species have been reported from the Sunshine Coast in previous publications and one additional species was identified from a photo collection. 2. Of the 835 mollusc species listed, 710 species could be assigned specific names. Some of those not assigned specific status are new to science, not yet formally described. 3. Almost 10 % (81 species) of the molluscan fauna are considered endemic to the broader bioregion, their known distribution ranges restricted to the temperate/tropical overlap section of the eastern Australian coast (Central Eastern Shelf Transition).
