  • Texas A&M Coach Gary Blair Sydney Colson Tyra White Danielle Adams
March 27, 2011 Texas A&M – 79 didn't have her normal percentage that she Georgia – 38 normally has. But the kids knew we had to go in the game and have balanced scoring and that's An Interview With: what we did. But the key to the game was the defense in the first half. The 3-point plays were icing on the TEXAS A&M cake. My bench, 7 out of 11 for Pratcher, Baker, COACH GARY BLAIR Gilbert, and Bellock. All four of those kids played extremely well. I was able to rest kids and not risk SYDNEY COLSON Carter and Colson to get their third foul. I was TYRA WHITE even able to rest Danielle a little in the first half just because we trust our bench and they did a great DANIELLE ADAMS job. Questions? THE MODERATOR: Questions for the student-athletes. THE MODERATOR: We're now joined by Coach Gary Blair of the Texas Aggies, Sydney Q. Sydney, what was the key to the fast Colson, Tyra White and Danielle Adams. Coach, start, and particularly you on the offensive end, comments on tonight's win. and how huge was that? COACH BLAIR: We had no idea we could SYDNEY COLSON: Just looking at the shoot the ball that well from the 3 to start the way that they ran their zone in film, we just saw a game. But this player over here has struggled a lot of things that would work. Coach Blair and little from the 3 the latter part of the year and all of Coach Bond were telling us plays that would be a sudden she hit those 3 bombs.

Administration of Barack Obama, 2011 Remarks Honoring the 2011 NCAA Women's Basketball Champion Texas A&M University Aggies October 6, 2011 The President. Everybody have a seat. Howdy! Audience members. Howdy! The President. Welcome to the White House. Congratulations to Texas A&M Aggies on your first national championship. Now, winning a national title is a pretty big deal for anybody. And it's an even bigger deal when you think about just how far this team has come. Fifty years ago, Texas A&M didn't have any women, much less a women's basketball team. When they did finally put a team together, the story goes that players had to share uniforms. At one point, they had to use the men's locker room, which probably wasn't perfectly designed for your needs. Coach Blair here would be going door to door just to ask people to watch the games. This is a team that used to be known as a bunch of lovable losers. But Coach Blair wasn't going to settle for that. As he said, he came to College Station to build champions. And that's exactly what he's done. Today, this team has thousands of fans cheering them in every game, including some very proud Members of Congress who are here today. They've defied expectations, they've won close games and played with a whole lot of heart. And now the Aggies are the best team in women's basketball. I think the players would agree that a lot of credit goes to Coach Blair.
