The Deddington PRs have banns for the marriage of Benjamin WHITLOCK (otp) to Elizabeth APPLEBEE of "Sibford, Swalcliff" read in November 1828.
Could someone with access to the PRs of Swalcliff please check for the marriage in 1828? I should like to know the father of Benjamin, so that I can see where he fits in the WHITLOCK families in Clifton, Deddington (no baptism is recorded for him in Deddington).
Thanks,
Robin Price X6039/2 Switzerland

Dear Peter,
Thanks for your mail. I'm descended from Ann WHITLOCK, daughter of Thomas WHITLOCK and Martha Masters. Thomas is the presumed son of Thomas WHITLOCK and Sarah BURROWS (no baptism found).
I'm only interested in Benjamin WHITLOCK so that I can fit together all the WHITLOCKs in Clifton and North Aston.
I have seen the WHITLOCK Association website and the chart you mention. Having looked at several families in Oxfordshire families, I can see how one can easily drift into a one-name study.
Thanks again for contacting me.
Kind regards...... Robin Subject:Whitlock X6039/4 From:[email protected] Date:Sun, 1 Oct 2006 10:12:50 EDT To:[email protected]

Hi Robin
I have a baptism for Benjamin at Deddington on 9th March 1806. His father is Thomas Whitlock and his mother Sarah Burrows. I have Benjamin's year of birth as 1803, probably from his burial record. HTH Caroline

Hi Caroline,
The Deddington PR transcription (OFHS) says ____ of Thomas and Sarah. I've assumed that this is, in fact, Hannah WHITLOCK rather than Benjamin, as it ties in with her age at burial (29 Jan 1829 in Deddington, aged 22). Also from the burial record (20 Feb 1839 in North Aston, aged 36), I've assumed that Benjamin was born in 1802 or 1803 - there is an appropriate gap between the known children of Thomas and Sarah.
Kind regards,
Robin --- caroline cain
