Before use, please read this manual carefully. Detailed in this manual is the necessary information you will need with regard to the correct installation, service / maintenance and general use of the Endeavour 3000 Acute Care Hospital .

Notes with regard to installation and general use • If the operation or specification of the bed does not match the descriptions stated in the ‘Operation’ section of this manual, then the bed is not suitable for use and any defects must be reported to Park House Healthcare. • The bed must be connected to a mains power supply of the correct voltage • Do not connect the bed to mains in the presence of flammable gases such as anesthetic agents • Do not use if any of the cables are damaged or their insulation are showing signs of wear • Do not place hands or fingers on or near the moving parts of the bed • Do not stretch or squash the cables between the moving parts of the bed • Do not roll the bed over the cables • Extra caution should be taken when using the bed close to medical equipment which is operating at high frequencies • If a patient is lying in bed without medical supervision the bed should always be placed in it’s lowest position and the electrical functions of the bed should be locked • If a patient may be at risk of entrapment e.g. disorientation for medical reasons, the bed should be placed in a flat position and the patient should not be left without medical supervision • Always apply the brakes when the bed is stationary • Before operating the bed, make sure that there is no risk of entrapment and that the patient is positioned correctly to avoid imbalance • Always use a suitable (size and type). Notes with regard to service and maintenance • If the general use, maintenance or servicing of this product is performed in any other way than what is stated in this manual, it may result in damage to the bed and will not be covered under the manufacturer’s guarantee • Any repair that is made to the bed must be carried out by a Park House approved engineer. Disregarding this requirement will invalidate the guarantee • Before making any repairs, the bed must be disconnected from mains

Notes with regard to cleaning and disinfection • Before cleaning or disinfecting always disconnect the bed from the mains • Do not use bleaching agents, caustic/corrosive chemicals, abrasive compounds or cleaning pads • If the control panel comes into contact with water, dry the keyboard and keys with a clean cloth immediately • If the correct cleaning and disinfection guidelines are not performed in accordance with what is stated in this manual, it may result in damage to the bed and will not be covered under the manufacturer’s guarantee

Safety and important information

The Endeavour 3000 is designed to facilitate the treatment, diagnosis and monitoring of patients in an indoor hospital environment - HDU, ITU, general and specialist surgery and general medicine

Indications: The bed is appropriate for high dependency patients who could pose a moving and handling risk and/or whose clinical condition requires that they are cared for with minimum physical handling

Patients with some independence can (at the carer’s discretion) operate the general functions of the bed, whilst under medical supervision

Contraindications: The safe working load of the bed is 260 kgs / 41 stones (this must not be exceeded)

The bed is intended for use by patients who are 12 years and over

If a patient may be at risk of entrapment e.g. disorientation for medical reasons, the bed should be placed in a flat position and the patient should not be left without medical supervision (unless medical personnel advise otherwise)

The bed should be used, maintained and serviced according to the instructions stated in this manual.

If the general use, maintenance or servicing of this product is performed in any other way than what has been stated in this manual, it may result in damage to the bed, and will not be covered under the manufacturer’s guarantee.

Use of accessories, additional equipment, cables or spare parts, other than those Caution! offered by Park House Healthcare are not permitted

Duties of the user

The user must ensure that the bed is only used in the appropriate conditions and in accordance with the instructions stated in this manual. The user is also obliged to take all the necessary precautions in order to prevent any hazards that could occur, if the user, patient and/or any third party does not follow the guidelines stated in this manual. Only authorised personnel who have undergone specific training and have read and understood this manual may operate the bed. The user must also ensure that all persons who operate the bed have read, understood and apply the instructions stated in this manual.

Transport and storage:

• Handle with care • Do not drop • Avoid violent impact

The equipment should be stored in a clean, dry and well ventilated area which meets the following conditions:

Ambient temperature -10 to 50ºC

Relative humidity of the air should range from 20% to 90% at 30ºC non-condensing

Air pressure 700 to 1060 hPa.

Do not hold the plastic ABS covers whilst moving the bed

Caution!

1. Ensure that the equipment provided fits the documentation enclosed 2. Attach the accessories according to the instructions stated in Section 2 Operation - Attaching accessories 3. Place the bed in a suitable destination as per the requirements as described above 4. Connect the bed to the mains where there is suitable electricity supply. Do not use extension cables 5. Check that the bed is in full working order prior to use (Section 2 Operation - Checking the bed is safe for use)

When checking the functions, ensure that the bed moves smoothly, without stopping, jerking or excessive noise.

If the bed is not functioning correctly, Park House Healthcare should be informed immediately and the bed must be removed from use

6 3. Operation

Brakes and Steering (Stop, steer & go)

The bed can be manoeuvred in any direction. The Stop, steer and go central braking system has three positions:

Green pedal down Go

Level pedal STEER

Red pedal down STOP (all wheels are locked)

For long and straight movements, press the green pedal down using your foot

To lock all wheels and secure the bed, press the red pedal down using your foot

Before moving the bed always disconnect the bed from the mains

Before moving always place the bed in its lowest position and clear the floor beneath the bed of any obstacles Caution!

7 Safety sides operation

To raise the safety side

1. Hold the top bar (A). 2. Pull the safety side up towards the head end of the bed until it locks into position

Extra care should be taken when lowering the safety sides, keeping fingers and limbs clear of the moving parts of the bed Warning!

Do not use the safety sides to lift or move the bed

Caution!

8 Linen shelf

The linen shelf is located at the foot end of the bed and can be used to store clean linen whilst the bed is being changed.

1. Pull the linen shelf out (Fig 1)

2. After use, push the linen shelf back into position (Fig 2)

Extending the mattress platform

The mattress platform can be extended by 20cm to accommodate taller patients.

There is a red quick release pin on either side (at the foot end) of the bed, situated underneath the bed base.

Pull the red quick release pins downwards to release the extension piece.

Holding the extension piece at both sides, pull out to extend the mattress platform.

The quick release pins will automatically click back into place once the bed extension is fully extended.

NB - Do not extend the mattress platform beyond the red markers on either side of the extension piece.

Retracting the mattress extension

Pull the red quick release pins downwards and push the extension back into position

The quick release pins will automatically click back into place once the bed extension is back in position

Always install a suitable mattress extension when the bed is extended

Warning!

9 Patient handset

The patient handset is connected to the bed by a flexible cable and can be positioned at either side of the bed.

The electrical functions of the bed are activated via push buttons on the handset. By pressing the required function, movement is activated. Movement will automatically stop when the bed reaches its maximum position, or when the button is released.

The patient handset can be used to adjust the:

• Back rest angle • Bed height • Thigh rest angle • Autocontour function • Under-bed light

The buttons are illuminated from behind to help visibility in dark rooms or at night

Do not continue to press the button if the bed has reached its maximum position

Caution!

Nurse Control Panel

The nurse control panel is connected to the bed by a flexible cable and is situated at the foot end of the bed.

The nurse control panel should be kept out of patients’ reach

Warning!

The nurse control panel is designed for use by a medical professional, to operate the electrical and clinical functions of the bed. For safety purposes the user can lock all the electrical functions of the bed so that they cannot be changed via the patient handset.

10 Nurse control can be used to adjust:

• Bed height • Trendelenburg position • Back rest angle • Anti-trendelenburg position • Thigh rest angle • Electric CPR • Autocontour • Under-bed light • Cardiac chair position • Nurse lock out

Locking the electrical functions

All the electrical functions can be locked individually via the nurse handset.

To LOCK a function:

Press and hold the key button then select the function you want to lock - multiple/all functions can be selected

The orange LED will illuminate to indicate the function is locked.

To UNLOCK a function simply repeat this action. The orange LED will distinguish to indicate the function is unlocked

If a patent is left in bed without medical supervision, the electrical functions of the bed should be locked

11 If the hand held control panel comes into contact with water, dry the keyboard as soon as possible with a clean cloth

Adjusting the mattress platform

Changing the bed height

The height of the mattress platform can be adjusted within the range indicated in Section 7. Technical descriptions

1. Press the raise or lower button on the bed height function until the mattress platform reaches the desired position 2. Release the button and the movement will stop

When the bed reaches its lowest or highest position movement will stop automatically.

If a patient is left lying in bed without medical supervision the bed height should be set in its lowest position Warning!

Changing the back rest angle

1. Press the raise or lower button on the back rest angle function until the back rest reaches the desired angle 2. Release the button and the movement will stop

When the back rest section reaches the maximum/minimum angle movement will stop automatically.

Changing the thigh rest angle

1. Press the raise or lower button on the thigh rest angle function until the thigh rest reaches the desired angle 2. Release the button and the movement will stop

When the thigh rest section reaches the maximum/minimum angle movement will stop automatically.

12 The Autocontour function

The Autocontour function allows both the back rest and thigh rest section to adjust simultaneously

1. Press the raise or lower button on the autocontour function until the back rest and thigh rest reach the desired position 2. Release the button and the movement will stop

When the back rest/thigh rest reach the maximum/minimum angle movement will stop automatically

Trendelenburg / Anti-Trendelenburg tilt functions

Trendelenburg (head down) tilt

1. Press the Trendelenburg tilt button until the bed reaches the desired angle 2. Release the button and the movement will stop

Anti-Trendelenburg (foot down) tilt

1. Press the anti-Trendelenburg tilt button until the bed reaches the desired angle 2. Release the button and the movement will stop

When the bed reaches the maximum/minimum angle movement will stop automatically

Only medical personnel are permitted to operate the Trendelenburg and Anti- Trendelenburg tilts Do not leave a patient in the Trendelenburg position unattended Warning!

One-button functions Activating Cardiac chair

The Cardiac chair position can be achieved by pressing and holding this button. Movement will stop automatically once the limit of travel is reached

To return the bed to a level position, press and hold the button again. Do not release the button until the bed has reached a level position and has stopped automatically.

NB - If the button is released before the bed reaches a level position the movement will be reset. The next time the button is pressed the bed will go back into the cardiac chair position.

Extra care should be taken when performing this movement. Keep fingers clear of the moving parts of the bed

Warning! 13 Electric CPR function

Press and hold this button to flatten the bed into a suitable position to perfrom CPR (cardio pulmonary resucitation)

The bed will automatically level at a suitable height; you do not have to raise the mattress platform NB - If all the bed functions are locked, the electric CPR will override the lock and continue to operate

Electric CPR is an emergency function and should only be operated by medical personnel Warning!

Manual CPR function

Manual CPR can also be used to flatten the bed in the event of an emergency

CPR levers are situated at either side of the bed

Push the red lever towards the foot end of the bed, the back rest and thigh rest sections will lower automatically. NB - Manual CPR levers will not adjust the height of the bed

Manual leg raiser

Raise the thigh rest, then lift the calf section to the desired position, the calf rest will click into place. To lower the calf section lift the calf rest to its maximum height (this will release the ratchet) and lower the section slowly.

Battery back up

The battery back up automatically switches on when the bed is disconnected from the mains. The battery provides emergency operation (short term) of all the electrical functions, until the bed is reconnected to the mains.

If a continuous beeping sounds when operating the bed via battery back up, the battery level is low

If the battery level is critically low then power will automatically shut off. The bed will need to be reconnected to the mains to charge the battery.

Battery charging indicator

An orange LED on the battery icon will illuminate when the battery is being charged

For the longest lifetime, the battery should be fully charged before disconnecting from the mains

To ensure the battery is kepy fully charged, the bed should be connected to the mains at all times during normal use

Caution! 14 Anti-entrapment actuators

If the actuators detect resistance when a bed section is in movement a clicking noise will be heard. If the actuators detect substantial resistance then movement will eventually stop.

If a clicking noise can be heard, remove any obstructions and continue operation

Removing the mattress platform covers

The mattress platform sections can be removed individually (4 pieces) from the bed base (Fig 1) to aid cleaning and servicing procedures.

To replace, simply click the plastic covers back onto the bed base.

The head and foot boards are mounted on the by inserting the spigots projecting from the boards into the holes in the bed base.

These can be easily removed by lifting the head/foot board from the bed base (Fig 2)

Make sure that both the head and footboards are fully inserted into mounting points before use (unless medical personnel advise otherwise)

Caution!

Under-bed lighting

The bed is fitted with an under-bed light to illuminate the floor space surrounding the bed, in dark rooms or at night. The under-bed light can be activated via both the patient handset and the nurse control panel.

To activate the under-bed light press this button

To switch the light off press this button again

Accessory rails

Accessory rails are located in the centre of the bed just beneath the bed base. These can be used to support urine bags and other drainage equipment.

15 Attaching accessories

Two accessory sockets are located at the head end of the bed, either side of the head board. These can be used to house the drip stand and the lifting pole.

Maximum working load for the drip stand should not exceed 4 kgs

Maximum working load for the lifting pole should not exceed 70 kgs

Caution!

Checking the bed is safe for use

All bed functions should be checked before use

Caution!

To ensure the bed is functioning correctly, check the following:

1. The stability of the bed when the wheels are locked • Try to move the bed manually by pushing the bed in any direction - the bed should not tilt or move if the wheels are locked securely

2. Check that the bed is free from mechanical interference • Visually check the moving sections of the bed

3. Electrical bed functions (Section 2. Operation) • Check the operation of every function individually • The movement of the bed should operate smoothly, without stopping, jerking or excessive noise

4. Nurse lock out function (Section 2. Operation) • Check that every function locks individually • Check that all functions lock - electric CPR should still operate when all functions are locked

5. The manual adjustment of the calf section • Press down on the calf section to make sure it is securely in position - you should not be able to change its position • Calf section should manually adjust in a smooth movement without any sticking or jamming

If all of the above is tested and functioning correctly then the bed is safe for use.

If the above is tested and the bed is not functioning correctly or any defects are found, it should be reported to Park House Healthcare immediately and the bed should be removed from use

Using a bed that is not fully functional may result in damage that will not be Caution! covered under the manufacturer’s guarantee.

16 4. Service and Maintenance

All service and/or repair work must be carried out by a Park House approved engineer. Disposal of products and components should be compliant with environmental procedures. The following preventative maintenance procedures should be carried out every 6 months, or at least once annually a) Check that all electrical functions when operated via the nurse and patient controls work correctly (inc. electric CPR and under-bed light) b) Make sure the back, thigh and calf rests operate through their full movement range (Section 8. Technical descriptions) c) Make sure the mattress platform can be raised, lowered from minimum through to maximum position (Section 7. Technical descriptions) d) Make sure the mattress platform can be tilted (trendelenburg/anti-trendelenburg positions) through its full range of movement (Section 7. Technical descriptions) e) Make sure the lock out function works across all functions (for patient and nurse handsets) f) Check that the bed extension can be extended and retracted easily and locks into place correctly in both positions g) Check that the linen shelf can be extended and retracted easily and locks into place correctly in both positions h) Check that (both) manual CPR levers are working correctly i) Raise and lower the safety sides to make sure they lock into the raised position and operate smoothly j) Check the stop, steer and go braking system to ensure the bed moves in both steering modes k) Apply the brakes and attempt to push the bed forwards/backwards. If any castors rotate then adjust or replace as necessary l) Examine the electrical supply plug and cable, if they show signs of damage and/or wear and tear replace as a complete set. Do not use re-wireable plugs or extension cables m) Examine all visible cables for signs of damage and/or wear and tear n) Visually examine all bed accessories for damage, paying particular attention to fastenings and moving parts o) Check that all nuts, bolts and other fasteners are present and adequately tightened

If any of these checks identify a fault(s), report it to Park House Healthcare immediately

The bed must be disconnected from the mains before any maintenance activity takes place

Disregarding this requirement will invalidate the manufacturer’s guarantee

If any aspect of the bed fails the service/technical inspection it should not be Caution! used until the fault/damage has been repaired

The bed should be disposed of in accordance with environment regulations.

18 5. Cleaning

The following cleaning procedures are suggested by Park House Healthcare as being suitable infection control procedures. Further information is available upon request.

NB - These guidelines are for the bed and its accessories only. Please refer to specific cleaning guidelines for .

Before cleaning the bed must be disconnected from the mains

Protective clothing should be worn at all times Caution!

Clean the bed using a single use cloth soaked in hand hot water and a neutral detergent.

Clean the bed from top to bottom, cleaning the wheels last. Pay extra attention when cleaning the areas where dust can build up.

The head and foot boards and individual mattress sections can be removed for thorough cleaning.

Rinse the bed with clean water and wipe dry with disposable paper towels. Make sure the bed is completely dry before replacing the mattress.

Disinfecting the bed

If the bed is heavily soiled or has been exposed to bodily fluids then it will require a more thorough cleaning procedure.

Follow the guidelines above and then wipe down using a single use cloth soaked in cold water and a 0.1% chlorine solution (1,000ppm). If required a 1.0% chlorine solution (10,000ppm) and cold water can be used.

Rinse the bed with clean water and wipe dry with disposable paper towels. Make sure the bed is completely dry before replacing the mattress.

Frequent or prolonged exposure to higher concentration disinfection solutions may prematurely age the bed’s appearance

Do not use phenol based cleaning solutions

Caution! Do not use abrasive compounds or pads

If the correct cleaning and disinfection guidelines are not followed as stated in this manual any damage to bed will not be covered under the manufacturer’s guarantee

The bed is suitable for the use in a decontamination chamber or tunnel wash and can be both jet and steam cleaned if required.

19 6. Guarantees and Warranty

Bed frame

All new models have a guarantee for a period of 3 years following the date of dispatch.

Actuators

All new actuators have a guarantee for a period of 3 years following the date of dispatch.

Guarantee

Park House Healthcare guarantees to repair or place any equipment issued to its customers, which is found to be faulty during the relevant guarantee or warranty period.

The Company’s guarantees are subject to following conditions: a) That the equipment has been used for the purpose for which it was intended. b) That the usage has been on a ‘fair wear and tear’ basis. c) That the Company’s cleaning / disinfection guidelines have been followed. d) That the Company’s maintenance guidelines have been followed. e) That maintenance has been carried out by a Park House approved engineer.

Warranty

Claims relating to Guarantee and Warranty

In the event of a fault being discovered within the warranty period, the customer must notify Park House Healthcare at the earliest opportunity.

If upon inspection, Park House Healthcare accepts liability then the equipment shall be repaired or replaced.

If Park House Healthcare does not accept liability it shall inform the customer of its reasons for declination and provide the customer with an estimate on either the repair or replacement cost.

Park House Healthcare reserves the right to alter or amend this document without prior notice.
