TEAM NOTES: • NEW FACES: On June 22, 2017 the Islanders acquired forward Jordan Eberle from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Ryan Strome. Eberle, 27, is entering his eighth NHL season. On April 12 the ‘interim’ tag was removed, making him the fulltime head coach of the Islanders.

Prior to assuming the role, the Detroit, Mich. native served as Assistant Coach and Assistant GM.

Weight, a four-time NHL All-Star, was named the 12th captain in Islanders history on October 2, 2009. Originally drafted by the New York Rangers in the second round (34th overall) of the 1990 NHL Entry Draft, Weight's career included stints with the Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, St. Louis Blues, Carolina Hurricanes, Anaheim Ducks and Islanders. He totaled 1,033 points (278 goals, 755 assists) in 1,238 career games. Weight was inducted into the USA Hockey Hall of Fame in 2013.
