C’est une montagne sauvage et sans artifices aux sommets prestigieux où l’esprit des lieux résonne encore des grands noms de l’alpi- nisme. Le Musée « Mémoires d’Alpinismes » retrace l’épopée de ces hommes et de leur passion. Dès le XIXe siècle, l’Oisans s’ouvre à ceux qui souhaitent découvrir ses vallées sauvages et ses sommets encore vierges. Les hommes de la vallée accom- pagnent là-haut ces aventuriers. C’est le point de départ de grandes lignées de guides, les Turc, Rodier, Paquet… Pierre GASPARD est de ceux-là. Il rentrera dans la légende le 16 août 1877 avec son client Emmanuel Boileau de Castelnau en inscrivant à son palmarès, la première de la Meije par sa face sud, au départ de la Bérarde.
